hello, this is breakfast with ben thompson and sarah campbell. there'll be more than a few sore heads in wrexham this morning after what was a huge day for the whole city. it really was the hollywood ending as their side beat boreham wood to secure their return to the football league after 15 years away. andy swiss was there. wrexham are promoted! the night football's feelgood story got its hollywood ending. tears for wrexham's film star owners ryan reynolds and rob mcelhenney and euphoria for their fans after winning promotion back to the big time. i don't think i have words yet.

i don't even like football. but we're just here. it's brilliant. amazing, isn't it? yeah _ they've done more thanjust for the club. they've done it for the whole town. the town is buzzing. when you walk around, people are just happy. well, you can see what it means. you just see what it means. it's been some journey. in two years, reynolds and mcelhenney have turned a struggling non—league team into a global tv phenomenon. and as the fans flock to the ground, another hollywood star, paul rudd, was spotted in the local pub. but would it be the blockbuster finale? they had to beat boreham wood. and of course there had to be a twist, as afterjust 43 seconds the visitors went ahead. but back wrexham came and how. after elliot lee's equaliser, paul mullin brilliantly gave them the lead to their owners relief before mullin sealed promotion in suitably fairytale fashion. mullin!

of the pennington family, who own muncaster castle in cumbria, not only want to lower bills but want to ensure the grade one listed building becomes the first carbon—free castle in the country. judy hobson reports. overlooking the esk valley in the west of cumbria lies muncaster castle. it was built in the 13th century as a defence against the scots. the pennington family have been the custodians here for more than 800 years. so we're in the great hall. the very core of the castle. this itself used to be a medieval hall. so welcome to the library. how much do you know about muncaster? the latest generation of the pennington family want to make changes, putting the environment top of the agenda. gas boilers have been switched off
8:46 am
and greener ground source heat pumps switched on. it's transformed the place, rather than the gas boiler where we turn it on for a function or something, turn it off straight away. the constant heat of the ground source has made it far more economical for us to heat on a regular basis, but also really improve the comfort and allowed us to look after the heritage. the electricity comes from here too. tell us how many solar panels have you got? so it's 85 kilowatts of solar that we have which is a lot. it is a lot. so how much does this power the castle? so it powers about 60—70% of the castle. on a day like this, it's going to do more than we need for the castle. ewan frost—pennington has spent the past few years working in the energy sector in california. he now wants muncaster to become the first carbon free castle. like anyone, we use energy to go
8:47 am
about our daily business. we attract customers from far afield. we want to be able to only have a positive impact on the environment. a lot of the work that we're doing here, the kind of conservation and the way that we're thinking about the way that we use our land and also the bird displays that we do here, the education about the plight of of nature is really important. but new green energy projects can be expensive and ewan's planning new events to attract more visitors. transition is always, always dangerous. and who knows? hopefully i'll do a good job and that i can be added to one of the good guys in the history and not relegated to the kind of the red list that we have within the castle of the family members that didn't do a good job. muncaster might be modernising, but the family here says any changes will always preserve and respect the centuries of history contained here. judy hobson, bbc news.

8:52 am
amongst the shingle. these birds can't go anywhere else. whereas, we and our dogs and all the activities that we do on the beach, we have the opportunity to go anywhere. historically, this would have been a very open place, a place where they could feed untroubled by humans and our dogs. and so this has become a crucial place for them. but now the more we use these beaches, the more vulnerable the birds are. that's why norfolk wildlife trust wants people to volunteer to be wardens here to patrol the beach, record bird activity, and most importantly, speak to the public to make sure everyone is doing the right thing to keep the birds safe, and they need it. there are only 1,500 breeding pairs of little terns in the uk and up to half are here in norfolk. ringed plover numbers have dropped by 79% in 35 years and oystercatcher numbers are also falling.
8:53 am
i've walked this beach a few times and i've seen the the the areas that are closed off. especially this one, i think a couple of miles down there, further down the coast. you can't get no more important places like this. they've got to be kept in the state they are, you know, to keep everything as it is and natural as possible. of course, making sure nesting birds are safe is important all along the coast, notjust here at holme. and if lots of volunteer wardens come forward, they can be used in other places. we'd like the beach to be a welcoming place, but to be a place also where people feel they're collaborating with us in the success of the breeding of these birds. and the volunteers are there to explain how everyone can help. if you want to help, the norfolk wildlife trust wants to hear from you. and this isn't just for ornithologists. it's all about working together to help nature. ian barmer, bbc news, norfolk.
