only one place to start — the confrontation billed as a potential title decider was a one—sided affair as manchester city dominated premier league leaders arsenal to strike a psychological blow at the etihad stadium. pep guardiola's side, now two points behind arsenal with two games in hand, were inspired by the partnership of this man kevin de bruyne and erling haaland. de bruyne got city's opener after seven minutes and then the belgian crossed forjohn stones to double city's lead before half time — de bruyne capped off a vintage performance with his second after the break before, who else but, haaland scored his side's fourth. gunners defender rob holding scored arsenal's goal, 4—1 the final score. city can now go top with victory at fulham on sunday.

a very good game from both aspect. defensive, the concentration, how aggressive we were to create enviroments and moments and our buildup was much better. a fantastic performance. you can't throw it away because you lost a game. after 11 games i think we have lost once we have to be there on the way to be there is to lead them. we had a difficult night and there was a shock and we have to go again on tuesday. it will take the best out of me and all my stuff to help them achieve that. another team in need of a lift is chelsea — who've lost their fifth successive game since the return of frank lampard as brentford won 2—0 at stamford bridge to strengthen their position in the premier

league's top half. bryan mbuemo scored his sixth goal of the season for the bees in the second half to secure all three points for the visitors after club captain cesar azpilucueta had scored an own goal in the first half. the defeat leaves chelsea in the bottom half of the table as they sit 11th. today we played a back free in the first half, secure in general play and not as much of a threat as we wanted and then more of a threat in the back four and then the counter—attack. for me it is a sign of mentality and their mentality was not wrong today. want to win games, we all have pride and but sometimes you have to wait your moment and when i say wait i mean keep fighting and keep working until that moment comes. two small deflections _ that moment comes. two small deflections for _ that moment comes. two small deflections for the _ that moment comes. two small deflections for the goals - deflections for the goals against wolverhampton got two deflections going the other way and that— deflections going the other way and that is football. in general, pleased with the

i felt, but i thought the performers warranted something and at the end against a liverpool side who is improving. i thought we merited a penalty kick _ and nottingham forest have moved out of the relegation zone with a 3—1 win against brighton at the city ground — danilo putting them ahead in the second half after they were 1—0 down. morgan gibbs white added a third late in the game to secure forest's first win in 12 matches. barcelona wasted the chance to effectively end the title race in spain after a 2—1 defeat away to rayo vallecano on wednesday night in madrid. they remain 11 points clear of real madrid at the top of the la liga table with seven games remaining despite the loss — losing to a rayo side that deserved the victory in front of their home fans. also in the spanish capital atletico madrid came from behind to take a comfortable 3—1 win against mallorca bringing them

just two points behind city rivals real madrid in second. there were also wins for celta vigo and almeria. inter milan are into the coppa italia final after beating juventus 1—0 in a closely fought match at the san siro. the two sides drew the first leg 1—1 at thejuventus stadium and had it all to play for in a repeat of last year's final that inter won 4—2 after extra time. not as many goals this time round. federico di marco's first half effort enough to put the milanese side into the final where they'll face either fiorentina or cremonese. a shock result at the crucible as ronnie o'sullivan was knocked out of the world snooker championship in sheffield after a sensational session from his opponent luca brecel — in their quarterfinal. defending champion o'sullivan was 10 frames to 6 ahead, but brecel was on fire. a century break got him back in it and it was one—way traffic after that, with all the frames on wednesday, 7 frames in a row,

to win 13—10, for a memorable win and wrecking the dreams of record 8th world title for the rocket. he played unbelievable. he is such a good player and i love watching him play. he gets through the ball so well. the top spin, the width, depth, the way he hits the ball it is just such a dynamic player. a full talent, probably the most talent i have ever seen and i would love to see him win because for snooker. that is how snooker should be played. i hope people can be inspired but there are other inspiring players. i hope people, as i say, people get to know snooker

better now because it is such a great sport. a fantastic game to watch. mark selby set up a semi—final with mark allen after comfortably advancing past fellow four—time champion john higgins 13—7. higgins made a superb break of 102 but selby hit a 67 as he sealed victory. a half—century from jason roy helped kolkata knight riders to a 21 run—win over royal challengers bangalore in the ipl on wednesday. jason roy's 56 — his second successive half—century — and 48 from captain nitish rana helped kkr set the home side 201 to win. although rcb got off to a flyer with a virat kohli half century, they could only manage 179 for 8 in their 20 overs. the win meants the kolkata knight riders move up to 7th in the league after breaking a four match winning streak — and are still in with a chance of making the play—offs to tennis and ahead of his title defence —

carlos alcaraz has been reflecting on his momentous run to glory at last year's madrid 0pen. the 19—year—old caused a stir in the spanish capital after beating his idol rafa nadal in the quarter—finals, a player he first faced in 2021 and the teenager admits he was nervous before the match. 2021 on my 18th birthday was my first time playing rafaso it was difficult for me that i was about to play against him, my idol. i was scared and last year was totally different. i played a few times against him and it was so different, you know? i tried to focus on my game, tried to relax and be myself on court and it was one of my best matches on tour.

aaron rodgers has revealed his belief in the new yorkjets* super bowl chances were a primary factor in his desire to play for the franchise. rodgers spoke to the media just minutes after his trade from green bay packers was ratified. the four—time nfl mvp spent his first 18 seasons in green bay, helping the packers win one super bowl while establishing himself as one of the game's greatest quarterbacks. when you get older it is fun to go out and prove that you can still do it each year and that is the motivation i think i need. but this was a big draw because of the people you see on stage here. the opportunity to play for a city that is hungry, a team with an incredible fan base that is hungry to win again. 12 years without a play—off, no super bowl win since super bowl iii. so the opportunity for something special here. it is similar to green bay in that way when you win in a city

an awful lot warmer is the far north of scotland. so, through the rest of the week, we will see some spells of rain through the day ahead, and then it turns warmerfor many into the start of the weekend, albeit still with some scattered showers, some decent dry weather as well. but for thursday, a couple of different frontal systems, this one pushing in from the southwest, this one just easing its way in towards the western side of scotland. so two different areas of rain, really. this one grazing the north coast of northern ireland and then pushing its way eastwards and north eastwards across scotland, maybe some snow over the highest ground here. and then this area of wet weather pushing in across the south west of england, some of that rain will then get up into wales, parts of the midlands, east anglia, certainly some rain into the south east. there is likely to be a drier slot between our two areas of wet weather. temperatures between 7—14 celsius. now, as we head through thursday

night, we will continue to see some outbreaks of rain, oerhaps the odd thundery burst here and there. a lot of cloud around as well to take us into the start of friday. so, with that extra cloud in place, it is not going to be a particularly cold night. temperatures typically between three 3—11 celsius. so actually a very mild night indeed down towards the south. into friday, well, we will start off with cloud and some patchy rain across parts of eastern england, that will tend to ease. and then for england and wales, northern ireland too, we should see some spells of sunshine developing. southern scotland will see a little bit of sunshine, northern scotland, more cloud, some bits and pieces of rain. still chilly in shetland, but further south, temperatures of ten to 18 celsius. now as we head into the weekend, it will be parts of scotland, particularly in the far north, that struggle in terms of temperatures, and we'll also see some rain at times. further south, some dry spells, a few showers, but it's southern parts that will see the highest of the temperatures, particularly on saturday, up to 19 degrees.
