lots painting those lamps behind me. lots of tourists. a little bit earlier i saw the king himself. king charles, was here earlier, he drove in to the abbey and drove out again. we believe he came for another one of his rehearsals. understandable because the ceremony is a complicated one. it does need a little bit of rehearsing. there will be presidents, prime ministers, politicians. a smattering of celebrities. but also people who have been hand—picked by the royal family because of the work they have done for charity, giving back to society. i'm happy to say that as we keep an eye on the pub. i am happy to say ijoined now by gail miller.

events across the country to celebrate the coronation and i want to, if i can, bring in my colleague who is in soho for us. is ben their? i am. i'm who is in soho for us. is ben their? iam. i'm not who is in soho for us. is ben their? i am. i'm not the only one, there is quite the crowd down here because about ten minutes or so ago, prince william and katherine walked down the street from soho square, down the street from soho square, down the street from soho square, down the street a couple of hundred yards, created the pub landlord and some of the staff at the front of the pub, gave a way to many of the crowd that had gathered. it's very hard to see quite how many, but there is a sizeable crowd gathered to catch can absorb them. it's like any big family event, beforehand you may want to go for a walk, popped in the pub for a couple of drinks. in this case the big family event is the coronation and popping in the pub involves...

1:09 pm
apparently they got off at the brand—new elizabeth line station at tottenham court road and made the short walk down from there. a short while after they arrived, the fleet of cars that accompanies them showed up of cars that accompanies them showed up and has pulled off a bit further down the road, have the police outriders, the big 4x4 cars with security and police. so i imagine that's how they will be leaving. but they seem to still be in there chatting away to people. i suppose people will be interested to know how they are feeling ahead of the coronation, because yes, the focus is very much on king charles and queen camilla at the centre of the ceremony, but william will be playing a role as well, he will be the only royal duke to kneel and pay homage and show his allegiance to charles as the newly crowned king. in the past there was a whole succession of docks and piers that were to the bar as we understand it,
1:10 pm
prince william will be the only royal would take to do so. just keep that in mind as you look at these live pictures of him behind the bar. there are, and a jacket and open necked shirt, chatting to people, such a contrast to the formality, the pomp and ceremony of it all, as it will be happening and as we will be watching wherever we are on saturday itself. bud be watching wherever we are on saturday itself.— be watching wherever we are on saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour _ saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour for _ saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour for a _ saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour for a bit _ saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour for a bit more - saturday itself. and ben, give us a bit of a flavour for a bit more of. bit of a flavour for a bit more of an idea of the geography around that pub in soho, it is in central london, very popular, lots of pubs and bars there, give us an idea of the area for people who don't know. this is a very popular area for going out. there are dozens and dozens of bars, a lot of the pubs have been here for many years and this is one of them. trying to see if there is a date on the sign. just a bit too small for me to read when this particular pub was established
1:11 pm
but this is an area where a lot of people will go out after work, especially in the summer, i walked past here many times and seen people gathered outside with their drinks in plastic cups, enjoying the great british summer, as and when it arrives. this is a well—established place. why this pub out of all the many in london, all the money in the uk? i don't know, to be honest, but they seem to have picked this one. there has been a lot of interest and attention, the crowds have been here certainly for a good hour or so before the duke and duchess arrived. clearly keen to catch a glimpse of them. perhaps thinking it will be easier to see... you can see there catherine emerging as well in the orangey red dress. you can tell i'm not a style fashion commentator! ben, it's a red jacket, come on.

aware that they are in an era where times have changed, attitudes and expectations have changed, and a feeling that they need to respond to that. it seems to come fairly easily to them, they both seem very comfortable walking down the street and spending plenty of time chatting. there are just round the corner, unfortunately we haven't devised a camera that can see round corners but i think he can see that phones are being held aloft and it gives us a clue as to where they are and i think they are making their way back down... i can see catherine's redcoat creeping into view again. a red coat to avoid any doubt, i stress that, a red coat. just coming round the corner again now. there are also people looking it a window is catching a glimpse as

1:19 pm
about 2:30 on saturday. so the best part of the days scheduled and taken up, who knows whether or not they will be able to go and do this sort of walkabout on the saturday, then there is the big carnation concert on sunday. so it looks to me as though they are really enjoying this opportunity to speak to people and maybe find out how they are planning to celebrate, be some of the crowd there, i dare say, i'm going to go out on a limb but i dare say one or two among the crowd may welljust about remember the last coronation backin about remember the last coronation back in 1953. i'm not going to pinpoint anyone in particular in the crowd! don't want to offend anyone. but i dare say some of them may have memories of that. and maybe they are sharing those memories with catherine and william. i was speaking to people in a pub in essex
