it is of course the coronation this weekend and i am camping out, in one of the best spots on the mall. i have been here since last night. i have not brought a tent or sleeping bag but i will be sleeping on my chair. i am just so excited, like a five—year—old christmas, waiting to open my presents. maybe i am insane, i don't know, you tell me. i am here now, opposite the house. we are the first person here. we came on the 27th,

i was here on thursday, with my friend, carol. we got here at four o'clock and at around six o'clock it poured down to the heavens. it was cold, it was horrible. where are you sleeping? here, in a chair, because government guidelines say we were not allowed to pitch tents, and that is why i did not bring one. we came yesterday at teatime and set up camp. we wanted to be at the front. did you feeljealous of other people with tents around? i wouldn't say jealous, i am quite happy because last night i did cheat a little and snuck back to the house for a couple of hours when i got really cold. a bit naughty, but still... where are you sleeping?

5:36 am
how they can playl their instruments, look at their music and march! chuckles playful music plays i want to see king charles, camilla and the princess sophie. i love her, you know? i'm a big fan of princess sophie — and kate and william, we didn't see them yet. who are you most excited to see? obviously, the king. and the gold carriage, yeah. i'm excited to see the king and the gold carriage, definitely, yeah. and who do you want to see most? king charles and... meghan markle? no, no, no, no, no. well, i think king charles and camelia. _ playful music plays

how long are you going to be camping out for? well, i'm not sure but we'll definitely be here for the coronation day. and you've got a playhouse... yeah. you've got all your stuff — can you show us what you've got there? well, i've been reading a lot and we've been playing with my sisters. well, this is our playhouse now, so we're having really a lot of fun. you've got lots of great stuff here! yeah. what are you enjoying the most? well, just enjoying being here and seeing all the people. i think the main reason that i do it is because i have a few friends who are true royalists and they encouraged me to come with them and it's better fun when you're with friends. and what fun you have — we heard you giggling away in the tent. that's constant! chuckles and what are you most looking forward to tomorrow? i think the whole pageantry of the event. i love the precision. i think nobody can do it
5:38 am
like the brits, and that'll be great. plus, seeing, of course, the royal procession. what did you do for your 37th year anniversary? 37th, we bought a bottle - of wine at a shop down the road and we sat outside ouri tent and drank the wine to celebrate, didn't we? we did, we did! was it the most romantic evening you've had together in the last 37 years? i think it most probably was, actually, because of- what we were up here for as well. | it was! i mean, it was cold enough to get close enough and get warm enough. laughs yeah! and what have you brought with you to keep you going? oh, my gosh... well, we've brought, you know, tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, hand warmers, winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves, you know, water, granola bars, you know. everything that we need. and that's the thing about the weather in london — you have to be prepared that it could be any season, no matter what the month is. i've got waterproofs through to sunscreen, yeah, literally. sorry — the pollen has got to my throat!
5:39 am
sorry! another thing to worry about. yeah, well, we've got some pills. yeah, we've got pills. the pollen is always... inhalers, tarps for the rain, ponchos. i think if you looked in our bags, we could just about fulfil anybody's needs. we could stay through the summer. we could! laughter just being here as well is really fun. _ and who have you got here with you? my two sisters, _ my grandma and my mum. and have you got lots of sandwiches, lots of drinks? yeah! — and why did you want to come? well, because it'sjust_ a really amazing moment in time and i'm really- excited to be here. are you sleeping in a sleeping bag or what? yes, we have — the green tent is ours with sleeping bags inside and was very chill last night — very, very chill last night — but we came prepared. chuckles we was here for the funeral and now, we are very strong royalists. playful music plays

since the queen passed away, let's hope that charles follows her good, old legacy and that he does well with it. thank you. god save the king. this is our first coronation and we were so excited because a lot don't see a coronation in a lifetime. as it passes here, the gold coach, we'll be cheerig the king and queen. god save the king and congratulations as — on your coronation day. there's me mum. yeah, we're just looking forwardl to the pomp and ceremony and seeing all the members of the royal family. - we like the build—up. the build—up is in the people coming here, right? red, white and blue. putting their flags up, seeing the people from all round the world cming here, asking us questions about the royal family and no—one does it better than great britain. god save the king!
5:41 am
fanfare the first coronation in almost 70 years. it's seen people the length and breadth of the uk find their own way to mark the historic occasion. from elvis impersonators in ayrshire to punjabi dancers in reading, from choir singers in county antrim to the pembrokeshire horses who are leading the procession in london. a moment to remember and
5:42 am
a time to celebrate for many. buckingham palace in central london, and the mall is the focal point during royal celebrations. preparation for the event has been a long time in the planning. and people have been camping out for days to get a prime spot to watch the monarch en route to westminster abbey. well, i'm here now, opposite side of clarence house and we are the first persons here. i was here on thursday. we came on the 27th with my friend carol. we got here at 4:00, and a round about 6:00, it poured down to the heavens, and we had this tarpaulin that we put that up.
5:43 am
it's been miserable and cold and it's horrible. of course, it's our first coronation and we're so excited because a lot of people don't see a coronation in a lifetime. a front—row seat at the parade will guarantee good views of this gleaming treasure. this coach will bring charles and camilla from the palace to westminster abbey. well, it's the first time that this carriage has been used at a coronation. it was delivered to queen elizabeth ii in 2014, and used for the state opening of parliament that year. the interior of this carriage is especially poignant for king charles. it's made from wood, from the grounds of balmoral castle near aberdeen, where the late queen died, aged 96. this coach will be the centrepiece of the much larger and longer procession from westminster abbey back to buckingham palace on coronation day. it's nearly four metres tall. it's over seven metres long. it weighs four tonnes.
5:44 am
because of that, it can only be used at a walking pace. but preparations aren'tjust taking place on the ground. the royal air force have been rehearsing the coronation fly—past over raf cranwell in lincolnshire. hugely important to get it right. he, ultimately, is our commander in chief. he's been very closely associated with the armed services throughout his time, and it's great to be able to put such a spectacle together for his coronation on the sixth. what you've seen today is a smaller version of that, 36 aircraft, but across all three services, and hopefully you've seen the amount of planning that's gone into that. i was very happy with the practice today, the spacing, how it's going to look, the contingencies around the day. scotland plays a key role in the coronation. the stone of destiny, dispatched to westminster abbey from edinburgh castle, was used in the coronation of scottish royalty for hundreds of years, also known as the stone of skin. it was kept in london for seven centuries until the uk government returned it to scotland in 1996.
5:45 am
the historic journey prompted concerns the relic could be a target for campaigners, so security has been stepped up. the stone has been described rather worryingly as the soul of scotland, and nobody wants to drop that in the floor. so yes, there's been quite a lot of pressure. dumfries house near cumnock in east ayrshire has a long association with charles. while prince of wales he restored it and made it the base for his charity, the prince's foundation. many of the staff here know him and organised a tea dance celebration featuring that other king, elvis. he's a really genuine man. he knows everybody*s names. dumfries house is the second biggest employer in this area. enthusiasm for the monarchy is lukewarm in many parts of scotland and recent polling
5:46 am
suggests scots are divided on its future. so i don't think the pomp and ceremony is needed, especially when we're struggling so much because the living crisis up and down the country. i think it's actually quite insensitive. i think he's waited a long time to be king, but he's king. we don't need all the pomp and circumstance. do we? an extra bank quality for- the big check sparkly hat day. the nations and regions of the uk will all contribute to the coronation. in wales the title which king charles caddied for so long in wales the title which king charles carried for so long as prince of wales. this sheer horse will carry the weight of the parade
5:47 am
on its shoulders. this horse, now known as major apollo, is a ceremonial drum horse bearing a mounted drummer during ceremonial events. he was involved in the queen's funeral and will feature prominently in king charles*s procession. his breeders, based in pembrokeshire, couldn't be more proud. the drum horse leads the procession, and it leads the procession. it leads the cavalry regiment band. so trooping the colour when they come down the mall to drum horse guards parade the term horse, the drum horse are at the forefront of that parade. in northern ireland, a new hymn for the coronation of king charles has been recorded by pupils from around 20 schools in county antrim. we've been singing for the king's coronation and we've been practising for a while for it. it's like really sweet and slow and you canjust take your time on it. it's been, like very different, but interesting because like, | it's got old words in it. like though and thee in it. the crown gets placed on his head and you get some days off school. choristers will play a big role in the coronation ceremony in westminster abbey in london.
5:48 am
these choir boys are rehearsing. rehearsing with other choirs in the abbey. it'sjust a really nice thing to do. really special. it's going to be exciting to sort of be part of history. it's exciting. it's quite nerve—racking. people across britain love a party and many want to express their excitement for the coronation. in savile row in central london, tailors are hanging up bunting. many of these shops have played a key role in dressing the royal household throughout history. we look after those uniforms, new or old, refurbishing them, maintaining them for centuries. and, you know, we were actually at the palace recently, putting on the new ciphers, the buttons with new ones, with old ones. and it was lovely to be there. a moment in time. in 0undle, northamptonshire, members of the local community
5:49 am
have been going crochet mad, covering the town in yarn. and in devon, this determined nhs worker says he's walking to the coronation to honour the king. it is not going to be easy, especially with no preparation. yeah, lots of aching muscles and bones. these children in east devon created their very own ornamental headdresses made from recycled materials. thomas spared every expense for his impressive crown. well, look at those milk bottle tops. trim blue lids. 0ver gold. apart from the creme brulee, it was daddy's toffee wrappers. and of course, street parties are a big part of any royal event. people in mayfield are expecting a big turnout. last year, we thought maybe 300 people might turn up
5:50 am
and we had a thousand, we think. so we had to run around getting more tables and more chairs. so we are planning for that many this time. and in glasgow, royal enthusiast sheila clarke celebrates the monarchy all year round with a collection of memorabilia that includes over 10,000 photos. she's excited to head to the capital to soak up the atmosphere. going to a live event like the coronation, it's not the same watching on television any more, i think because i've done so many live events that there is an atmosphere there that you cannot capture byjust watching it on television. it's just not the same. you get the buzz around you. we're on our way over to the mall. the mall they pronounce it over here. of course, the coronation attracts broad interest from across the globe,
5:51 am
with many people making their way to the uk to become part of the event. donna werner has travelled from connecticut in america to secure her spot on the mall. i'm just happy to be here and be part of history. i mean, this hasn't happened in 70 years and it's like i mean, every time you see pictures of a new monarch, the first thing they show is the day they were crowned. and i mean, for us to be here and see him immediately afterwards. what celebration would be complete without sharing food with family and friends? you might have heard some talk about the coronation quiche. this is it. it was hand—picked by king charles and queen camilla and has been declared the coronation*s official party food. the recipe video was posted on the royal family's social media accounts. here at luton*s guru nanak gurdwara, they are preparing a feast fit for a king. they open the doors to everyone and make 500 meals a day.
5:52 am
the king has already popped in. very pleased and surprised to see him. so happy. very happy. and then the handshake. asking what's this, what's this. in reading a group of british asian women have gone back to their punjabi roots to commemorate the royal occasion in dance. i can remember my mum used to sing these songs while she was doing the housework around the house. i've grown up with them and i'm a huge royalist. i love the royalfamily, so we're all excited for the coronation. and of course, no royal celebration would be complete without the right decor. and these birmingham school children have been hard at work. we've been doing bunting for the king's coronation, and he likes flowers. so we did a flower theme. i've been using the needle and thread to put it through the flowers,
5:53 am
and also we put them in the bunting and then it makes them look like this. trumpets sound the preparations will culminate in the coronation of the king. of course, with many looking forward to this historic moment with excitement, whether they'll be watching along the route or at home, one thing is certain lots of preparation will have gone into this day and many people across the uk will be marking this moment with song, food and dance. music playing
5:54 am
hello there. the coronation is almost here and the heavy showers that we had on friday, those have been fading away. we had some late in the day lovely rainbows but earlier on, there was a lot of thunder and lightning. those have pushed clear but we need to look to the south now, into the english channel. this is where our weather is now coming from, the cloud thickening up and these weather fronts will bring some rain. so, this is the forecast for the coronation in central london. looks cloudy, there'll be some rain from time to time. temperatures are not going to be as high as the 20 degrees that we had on friday. we start with ten degrees in london first thing on saturday,
5:55 am
seven or eight further north, just one of two showers left over here but we've got this patchy rain here developing in southern england, moving steadily northwards into wales, the midlands, eventually into east anglia and lincolnshire. for northern england, scotland, northern ireland some sunny spells breaking out but also some heavy showers developing. in between those heavy showers in the sunshine, temperatures could reach 17 or 18 degrees. under the cloud and the rain across england and wales nearer 1a or 15 celsius. there could be some wet weather into the night as well before finally pushing away out into the north sea and then, we'll see some sunny spells on sunday but also some showers. more likely to have those showers in scotland and down the eastern side of england, so further west, you may get away with a dry day. with some sunshine around, it should be a bit warmer for most areas — temperatures peaking at 20 or 21 across the south—east in the afternoon. but if we look to the west, more weather fronts are beginning to pile in from the atlantic and during the evening and overnight, we're going to find rain pushing its way eastwards across the whole of the country, so bank holiday monday starts cloudy with some rain around as well.
5:56 am
that rain may be pushing its way eastwards but it will be followed by some sunshine and some showers. these could be heavy and thundery, particularly in northern ireland and western parts of scotland. temperatures, while not quite as high, at around about 16—18 degrees. so, a real mixture of weather, i think, over the coronation weekend. unfortunately, there is rain in the forecast for many of us. wet weather developing on saturday. fewer showers on sunday but then, we're back into some heavy showers on monday. and this very mixed picture continues into next week. we're on the cooler side of the jet, so temperatures nothing to write home about. there'll be some sunshine but showers never too far away.
