appearances in the supreme court. imran khan and his party have also tried to take the government to court because they are trying to have elections in punjab and other provinces in may. that has not happened, the pti have challenged it on the grounds that it is unconstitutional as well. both sides are pulling in all of the different elements of society that they can in order to try to push forward before the big elections which are due to happen later this year. this is a big power struggle in politics which is happening in pakistan at a really difficult moment for pakistan. the economy here is incredibly vulnerable, it is on the brink. there has been a massive reduction in terms of foreign reserves that we have seen over the course of the last few months. that has been a major concern, a major worry. the pakistani rupee has weakened significant against the dollar, and we have seen a country which is struggling with high inflation, people struggling to be able to buy

discussions with the imf, the international monetary fund, to try to get money which would help pakistan get out of it's difficult economic circumstances. those did not come to an agreement, it is still ongoing. these are some of the other big questions in pakistan are dealing with. politicians are constantly being pulled into talking about imran khan and what will happen next with him. as you mention, we have seen in previous images from february when there were attempts to arrest imran khan from his house in lahore, and we saw crowds of his supporters come out to try to stop the police from doing that. we saw them at being pushed back by tear gas and water cannon, which, from speaking to protesters, a lot of people then hardened their views towards him, they felt that they were there defending imran khan, that they were the last bastion to prevent him from being

looking at these images from lahore in north—east pakistan, they show supporters of imran khan, i believe, and we have seen many times over the last few months when the authorities have tried to arrest imran khan at his house, we have seen many of his supporters coming out and saying for a very long time, preventing the authorities from arresting him. that has happened several times, and as the pti, his party, says, there have been several court cases against him in the last few months. there are 100 court cases, they say, against him, charges include terrorism, corruption, and contempt of court. as they were saying today, this latest arrest has been on the basis of corruption charges, although we have not had any details on what exactly those are. as she also said, section 144 has been issued. that does not allow protests on the streets. he has previously been charged with unlawfully selling

state gifts which were given him by foreign dignitaries. imran khan said that he had followed the legal procedures in all those incidents. we are looking at new images from early today, i think, these are from the pti's official twitter account. they show police in riot gear with their truncheons, and you can see face shields. we saw earlier, pictures of imran khan being marched in a group of riot gear officers, being pushed into a car. this has happened earlier today. supporters have been out in force for him. this has been happening while he was in court facing corruption charges already, and then he was arrested again, afterwards. these are pictures that i was mentioning, a group of police marching khan in the middle, in the middle of your screen, being pushed into a car. the military have warned him, actually,

pakistan's military have warned imran khan against making baseless allegations after he had again accused a senior officer of plotting to kill him. the military said that the claims were malicious. this was after an event over the weekend, he had been accused... mackie had accused a senior officer of plotting to kill him. they said that this was unfortunate and deplorable, that imran khan repeated the claims but a senior intelligence officer was involved in an assassination attempt last year, during which he was shot in the left. the rebuke by the military is seen as worsening relations between pakistan's powerful military and mr khan, as we were hearing, there is also an election coming up later this year. it is expected injune. pakistan is facing all sorts of issues, economic issues especially, inflation is high, as it is around the world.

images now from his political party, his pti, their official account on twitter has posted these pictures. they were posted earlier today, and a show police officers in riot gear forcing imran khan into a car. this was while he was appearing in court facing corruption charges. he has been charged again, arrested again, on corruption charges. there have been no immediate comment from the authorities, but he is actually facing several court cases at the moment. pti officials say that they are 100 in total. the charges include terrorism, corruption, contempt of court, and, we have seen various attempts over the last few months by supporters of here's to stop him from being arrested at his home. so many of his supporters have camped outside his house to prevent the officers from getting to him.

islamabad, and reacting to that news but we had in the last half hour, that the former prime minister of pakistan, imran khan, has been arrested. you are watching bbc news. hello again. over the next few days, we're looking at a mixture of sunshine, but also some showers, some of those heavy and thundery with hail and slow moving. certainly that's the case today. you can see from the lack of isobars on the charts, any showers that develop will be slow moving. now, we've got some heavy ones coming in across the southwest of england. they're likely to be thundery. and we've got showers really anywhere today. but, in the west later, it will dry up. the risk of showers will be much lower. but in the east, we could still hear some rumbles of thunder. temperatures down a bit on yesterday, widely 10 to 16 degrees, locally, 18 to 19. and, it will be quite gusty in the southwest later as well. even into the early part of the evening, we'll hang on to some thundery showers in the southeast, but then

later, they move away. we'll have clear skies, a lot of dry weather. but in the west, we've got further showers coming in and again, some of those will merge to give some heavier downpours. temperatures overnight, seven to about ten degrees, but locally chilly in the northeast of scotland at four or five. tomorrow, we start off with clear skies in central and eastern areas, but that won't last, the clouds coming in from the west. the showers develop quite widely during the course of wednesday. again, some hail, some thunder, slow moving showers there, too, with temperatures down a touch. again, we're looking at ten to about 16, maybe up to 18 here and there. wednesday night into thursday, the low pressure that's driving our weather at the moment slips a little bit farther south. still hardly any isobars at all on the charts, indicating not much wind to move those showers along. so, we'll see another day on thursday of a showery start, some brightness and the showers really get going through the course of the day. something drier, though, across northern scotland and northern ireland.
