lucky, it's shone. we are so lucky, it's glorious in liverpool tonight. let's look at the weather wherever you are in the country. it has been sunnier because most of the western side of the uk, with the temperatures reaching the high teens to low 20s. were you had the sunshine today, more of the same tomorrow, but it wasn't like that everywhere. we had a feed of cloud affecting east scotland and most of england as well, so it was grey and drab. it was a chilly day today in the east. into the weekend, it is set to get warmer, with temperatures peaking in the low teens to late 20s when the sunshine pops out. tonight, cloud is going to roll back in across england, reaching east wales. cloudy also for east scotland, a bit of mist around and a few spots of drizzle. some clear spells out west. one or two mist and fog patches. as
6:31 pm
we start saturday, a lot of cloud across east wales and is scotland. that will tend to get nibbled away back towards the north sea coast and most of us will have some warm sunshine to into the afternoon. temperatures in the high teens to the low 20s. could reach 22 in northern ireland, which would make it the warmest day of the year so far. on sunday, a cold front moves in, bringing cloud and rain across north—western areas and dropping the temperatures here. across central and eastern england, it should be a bit warmer, with temperatures again reaching the low 20s. that is how our weather is looking this weekend. however, i thought we would take a quick look at what is going on in the bay of bengal, where we have a dangerous looking cyclone. it is set to make landfall on sunday around the border between bangladesh and myanmar. this is the region that is currently housing hundreds of thousands of rohingya refugees. the weather looks serious and we could have some catastrophic impacts due to this cyclone. jane. thanks, chris.

and that's bbc news at six from me and all the team here in liverpool. the news continues here on bbc one, as now it's time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the news where you are. goodnight. hello and welcome to sportsday — i'm hugh ferris. it's may — and that means the business end of the season for two different shaped balls. there's a trophy on the line on sunday at wembley, sold out for the first time for a women's fa cup final. in the men's game, it's playoff time in the efl — with luton looking to complete a miraculous rise and make kenilworth road one of the premier league's more idiosyncratic arenas. while rugby's premiership is at the same stage, we look ahead to their semi finals as the four coaches name their teams.
6:33 pm
from the bbc sports centre, this is sportsday. hello again. the two clubs contesting the women's fa cup final this weekend might be of similar stature in the global game, but they have had very different paths to sunday's match at wembley. chelsea have won 11 major trophies in the last decade and are the current holders of both the wsl title and fa cup while manchester united having been re—established as a club only recently are yet to win anything. but that could all change and notjust on sunday. because these two are also battling for the league title with just a point separating them at the top of the table. reason enough to suggest this cup final will befit the occasion

and the surroundings, as wembley prepares to welcome another record crowd — although at least one key participant will be tuning it out. i'm hoping i don't hear a member of the crowd for one second. i hope the players do, but i'm actually business about this. i know exactly what i need to do. i'm sure there will be some nerves, but i am fuelling my focus, attention. i have been on the other end of it so i went to make sure i give everything to try to make sure we maximise this because if we can when it will be massive. , . . , , , because if we can when it will be massive. , u ,, , ., massive. preview success is not indicative of— massive. preview success is not indicative of future _ massive. preview success is not indicative of future success - massive. preview success is not indicative of future success we i massive. preview success is not i indicative of future success we are playing _ indicative of future success we are playing an — indicative of future success we are playing an outstanding team and led the way _ playing an outstanding team and led the way in _ playing an outstanding team and led the way in the league this year and deserve _ the way in the league this year and deserve to— the way in the league this year and deserve to be in the cup final. we are always — deserve to be in the cup final. we are always favourites in our eyes what we — are always favourites in our eyes what we are in yours, is what you sell newspapers and make news out of. sell newspapers and make news out of what's _ sell newspapers and make news out of. what's important is the belief,

so then sunday's match will be the ninth women's fa cup final in a row at wembley, but the first to fill it. rachel brown—finnis played in the last final before that run started, there were 15,000 at stadium mk in 2014, and the former england goalkeeper knows how significant sunday will be. it has come such a long way as the whole as women's football as has, the credibility is not the right word but the perception of women's football has come straight. i went to the world cup final in 1999 as a fan, watching the us in america beat china on penalties. it was that iconic chastain moment with their shirts off, nice lights, sports product that was on the front page of every newspaper. i am playing for england at this point that these girls a stressor is as where we were being on a national team at the time. i want to to be seen as men's football or women's football but ask football at the time. i wanted our sport not to be

6:39 pm
i felt there has ifelt there has been i felt there has been a ifelt there has been a real different focus on the players as well, it has been a long time coming and we have known for a few weeks. and now it is here. it does feel quite special, it feels like the lads have really sort of clicked into gear again as well. and the teams are normally in good form and been up there is good teams throughout the season so it will be to take teams to come. a lot of our games are tight and i think championship football is all about fine margins and moments that we have to make sure in those key moments in both boxes we deliver. what you mean to you if you could get them to a final? it what you mean to you if you could get them to a final?— what you mean to you if you could get them to a final? it would mean eve hinu get them to a final? it would mean everything but _ get them to a final? it would mean everything but if — get them to a final? it would mean everything but if we _ get them to a final? it would mean everything but if we do _ get them to a final? it would mean everything but if we do get - get them to a final? it would mean everything but if we do get there . get them to a final? it would mean everything but if we do get there itj everything but if we do get there it is only by winning. look, we want to go a couple of steps further than where we went to last year. the guys, nathan and the team in the lads did amazingly last year to get to the playoffs but we have managed to do it again for a second time and of course that, you want to go further. luton play their first leg
6:40 pm
at sunderland tomorrow, while on sunday coventry take on middlesbrough, hoping to return to a league they were in from its beginning until 2001, with both managers having a manchester united link, michael carrick will be in one dugout, and in the other, mark robins. the former striker is famous for one goal in particular... it's said that this saved alex ferguson from the sack injanuary 1990. even though the club have always denied it... the winner in the third round of the fa cup against nottingham forest was apparently crucial in keeping fergie in a job. now an experienced manager himself... robins has been talking to the bbc*s football news show. it's just been a good time, it'sjust been a good time, a really good time. a lot of hard work but a lot of ups, not many downs. i think to get there it is been the mantra of the club has been apprised together over the last few years and with the aid of the supporters it has been fantastic, we have been able to achieve what we have done so
6:41 pm
far and likewise i had him saying the other day, we have not achieved anything yet. and that's how i feel. but we have when you reflect on it to be where we are. in the context of us in this football club it has been a phenomenal achievement so far. in been a phenomenal achievement so far. ., ,., far. in the efl there are some fairly high-profile _ far. in the efl there are some fairly high-profile managers, l fairly high—profile managers, michaei— fairly high—profile managers, michael carrick and others and you have as _ michael carrick and others and you have as much success is going through— have as much success is going through the leagues and probably more _ through the leagues and probably more over longer period of time, how would _ more over longer period of time, how would you _ more over longer period of time, how would you describe yourself and people — would you describe yourself and people who don't know about you what are your _ people who don't know about you what are your principles? | rdrill people who don't know about you what are your principles?— are your principles? i will try to work as hard _ are your principles? i will try to work as hard as _ are your principles? i will try to work as hard as he _ are your principles? i will try to work as hard as he possibly - are your principles? i will try to j work as hard as he possibly can do. i don't think it always give you results but you trying as hard as you can and overtime each club is different. so i've managed rotherham united where we had a 17 point reduction, lost the stadium in the ground and at that point i done an interview, a podcast at the time and

what a crazy day here on sunday. it was insane and certainly did not plan for it to go that way but in the end it was actually really an incredible outcome for us because we managed to convince ourselves we can climb a huge mountain never been in that situation once all season. in some of the fact that we won the game is the manner in which we'd done it a proof so much, a prude so much. now we add one more, one more come on one more!— come on one more! when the equalising _ come on one more! when the equalising goal _ come on one more! when the equalising goal goes - come on one more! when the equalising goal goes in - come on one more! when the equalising goal goes in and i come on one more! when the i equalising goal goes in and then finally when the winning goal close in, what are your emotions when you realise that surely there, you're going to win. i realise that surely there, you're going to win-— realise that surely there, you're going to win. i think that was the one thing i _ going to win. i think that was the one thing i could _ going to win. i think that was the one thing i could say _ going to win. i think that was the one thing i could say i can - going to win. i think that was the | one thing i could say i can actually remember. the first one is essay overwhelming sensation, but when the third goal goes in i can't believe

rain and drizzle in places that's now mostly faded. but it is going to be a fairly cloudy night. east of the pennines, central parts of england and further south too. many northern and western areas should have a relatively clear night and a nip in the first thing on saturday morning, about six degrees in the lowlands of scotland. so this is what it looks like on saturday morning. sunshine from the word go across many western and northern parts of the country, but the cloud may be stubborn across england, especially eastern areas. and in fact, some areas may stay fairly cloudy all through the day, particularly closer to the north sea coast. it'll be chilly here, but elsewhere, widely, the high teens up to 20 degrees. a beautiful day for cardiff, for liverpool, for belfast and for glasgow. now the uv levels are going to be high this weekend. of course, the sun is strong in may. so let's not forget that it's dependent on the temperature. it's dependent on the time of the year. now, the forecast for sunday shows a weather front approaching

so that high pressure over us isn't going to last for very long. here's the weather front as it makes its journey into north—western parts of the uk on sunday and then eventually crossing the irish sea, moving into the lake district, reaching liverpool and also the western fringes of wales as well as south—western england. so here, cooler, cloudier with rain at times the warmth and the sunshine will contract towards the east and the south. and in london we could see highs up to about 22 degrees celsius on sunday, but the warmth isn't going to last for very long. you can see the orange colours get replaced by yeah, these cooler conditions from the north and that blue. so things are going to cool off as we head into next week. in fact, you can see that warm weekend there sunday in cardiff and london. and after that it turns cooler with temperatures in the mid—teens. but generally speaking, we are expecting fairly dry weather.
