az alkmaar to come this thursday. mark noble hung up his boots last summer but has been relishing his new role as sporting director helping when the youth cup this season. he has been catching up about their season and roll at the stadium. and role at the stadium. they have their titles but everyone else in their own way. i was really keen on tidying up the 21 squad, moving a few players out and promoting a few players, done a lot with the staff at the training ground, academy. i came in injanuary so we had already spent a lot of money in the summer and knew there wasn't a lot of money to spend. we weren't doing great in the league so for a while, was a bit of a stressful time.
7:50 pm
i'm sitting on the sidelines and can't help on the pitch. and i'm used to being helped on the pitch. it is a case of speaking to our players and in truth, lots of our players in the last two years haven't felt like it has been an issue in the relegation battle. but i have witnessed what it has been like this year. i know what it's like and for the new boys coming in from abroad, not knowing what it, a premier league relegation battle is like, just giving my experience, doing stuff in the background on recruitment and how you want to shake things at the club. but in essence, there wasn't a lot to do in terms of knowing in january that we weren't

going to bundles of money. so it's a case of getting the players together making sure we stay in the league and rebuilding in the summer. in terms of the first team you mentioned, has it been easy to pinpoint why it's been difficult? most people from the outside looking in have thought, west ham are spent all this money on players and have too good a squad to be down there. they are bound to start winning eventually." and form has improved generally but it seems to take a long time to get away from... possibly relegation. i don't think anyone has hid from it, the manager has been clear for a long time we have been in the relegation battle. and he knows, he knows the game as well as anyone. he knows the pressures he was under.
7:52 pm
1a managers this year already in the premier league, it is madness. we stuck with david and it looks like he has got us out of trouble. we're in the european semifinal. you can start looking forward now and hopefully we will pick up more points before the season finishes. the premier league is a demanding league and not only with the players and clubs but the press and everyone jumps on the bandwagon when a team isn't doing well and that's probably the reason why there's been 13 or 1a seconds this year. sackings this year. whether the owners or feeling like they have to do something. it does make a massive, how can i say? makes a massive reason for owners to make a reaction.

i have to ask you about declan because he took over as captain from you. there was a social media clip of him on sunday walking down and seeing the young lad and giving him his shirt and he seems to represent the club in such a fantastic way but he also did an interview with match of the day extra where he is going through his favourite tunes and stuff and i can't imagine you doing that somehow. but he is a new breed of football player and almost epitomises west ham and has been a worthy successor in terms of a captain of this football club. if you do win the trophy, he is the one who is going to lift it. it would seem a fitting thing for him to do. yeah. and i have said for the amount of time been asked about declan, as captain of the club.
7:54 pm
when i say resigned to the fact, i don't like using those words but... if it was anyone to replacement captain, was him. and i was really happy about that. it gave me a bit of comfort that it would be him because he carries on the morals i have and the love for the club and the fans. why are you crying? i don't know. everyone has to the clip because it went viral but that is declan. we expect that. that is just the way he is. i'm so pleased that whoever found it filmed at the time because people get to see what he is. he is a monster on the pitch, one of the best at what he does.
7:55 pm
commentator: declan rice has saved man united. - this just the way he is. i texted his dad that night saying his plan pleased has seen that because they know the real declan rice but he is like that, but he is like that, that is him. he has a big heart, such a kind person. at times actually said to him, in opposition you can't be nice to everyone because people will take of you. but he knows that and he is such a great ambassador for the club could it is small thing that the under eights had theirfirst signing are not many clubs do it but at west ham, we get all the families and the under—eights and you give them a shirt with their name on the back and show them videos and they have a great day. their first ever contract they sign, you know i mean. a great day for the families, their under—eights and under—nines
7:56 pm
and declan showed up to it. i was there and he showed up and all the kidsjumped on him and you don't get that from captains in the premier league. they're too busy doing what they are doing and that is just the person he is and people don't see that. so i am glad that whoever affirmed that it got everyone to see notjust how good a player he is... he is a better person than he is a player and that is saying something. more via the bbc sport website and if you want to catch up with other episodes of the football news show, why not head over to bbc iplayer? until next time, thanks for watching. goodbye. hello there. it's a pretty quiet weather story indeed for the upcoming week and beyond because high pressure looks to be dominating the scene quite a while. so it's going to be mostly dry.
7:57 pm
there will be a few showers around, mostly across the north of the uk. could be quite cool as well to start this new week, certainly monday and tuesday both by day and by night, but it will warm up slightly towards the end of the week. now, the game changer has been this weather front, a cold front with some rain on it that's been spreading southwards and eastwards across the country through today. be lying across the south—east by the end of tonight. so a mild—ish night here, but further north—west and the clear skies, quite a chilly one to come. could even see a touch of frost or temperatures down to freezing, i should say. some of the sheltered glens across scotland. so chilly start to the day and you can see why we're in this chilly air mass for monday. still high pressure with us, so it's going to be mostly fine and dry. now we lose that weather front from the south—east. it'll take the rain with it and then it's bright for many from monday, sunshine and showers, order of play for the afternoon. most of the showers, scotland, northern ireland, northern and eastern england. quite a keen breeze there. and again across the north of scotland, probably best
7:58 pm
of the drier weather wales in the south—west where we could see 16 degrees, but for most it's the low to mid—teens that is quite cool for this time of year. and then as we move through monday night, largely clear skies, light winds, that cooler air mass is going to turn chilly once again. could see some mist and fog developing here and there. so into tuesday, we've still got high pressure with us, fewer isobars, i think for many of the winds will be light away from the north of scotland, which we'll also see this weak, weather front that could enhance the cloud and shower activity for the northern half of scotland. we could see the odd shower into northern ireland, perhaps northern england too, but the southern half of britain should tend to stay dry after that cool start. should see quite a bit of sunshine, a bit of fair weather, cloud, top temperatures, maybe up to 17 degrees. it's the low to mid—teens again in the north. and then as we move out to tuesday into wednesday, our area of high pressure topples a little bit further eastwards. that will start to bring some slightly milder air off the atlantic. you can see the blue tinge there just fading away as the yellows take over. so it's not going to be
