the season we played is a season where you qualify for the european league rather than the champions, to be 100% honest. for so long, it didn't look like we even, we couldn't even hear the sound of the champions league. that's how far away we were. but like i said, we made it quite exciting in the end, and we deserve to go to the european league. for me, that's absolutely fine. i love the competition as well. didn't play it as often as the champions league, but it is absolutely fine. so let's see what we can do. not just frustration for liverpool today — tottenham's european hopes for next season faded further as they were beaten in their final home game of the season by brentford. the 3—1 win guarantees a top half finish for the visitors. patrick geary was watching. one day tottenham may build harry kane a statue. for now, this is his monument. if they wish they can keep him there forever. the future of the real thing is more movable. spurs fans have long learnt to treasure every moment. kane!

his players performed. before the game today, the one at aston villa last week. there is only one way to act. if we can't do it, that is disappointing. what other teams do and stay focussed on trying to the second half as may be the best away half performance of the season, we were very good with the ball. the way we were very good under high pressure, aggressive, scored two fantastic goals, we press it high and try to win, we wanted to one, and of chris we had to dig in and the last ten, playing against a fantastic team. just fantastic. there was late drama at molinuex — where yerry mina scored in the 99th

minute to snatch a one all draw for everton against wolves. how crucial that point could be for sean dyche. everton are two points outside the relegation zone for now. their fight to avoid dropping into the championship will go down to the final day of the season. i thought the mentality was fantastic. the change we had to make from personnel, the shape, trying to affect the game against a team that had nothing to play for this evening, they went on the back foot to open the game and that can be difficult sometimes. i thought we kept going to finally get the chance to break them down and nick a point, which is pleasant in the end. aleksandar mitrovic, making his first start since returning from his eight—match ban for pushing a referee — scored twice as fulham drew two all with crystal palace at craven cottage. joel ward with the late equaliser for the visitors. taking a look at what that means for the premier league table. manchester city are champions of england again, four points clear of arsenal, can't be caught because arsenal have just one game remaining to play. city

to the trophy last year. bevon french started the revival. the australian added another before junior levelled the score is an unforgettable fashion. with 15 minutes on the clock, this was now all about timing, and it was wigan who showed the position. ryan's pass found jake, and the comeback was sealed. leeds will feel hard done by, but it is the defending champions who march on and who is to say that they can't go all the way again? la rochelle have won the european cup for the second year in a row — beating leinster 27—26 in dublin the irish side raced into a 17—0 in the opening 12 minutes with hooker dan sheehan scoring two of them. but la rochelle came roaring back in the second half. georges—henri colombe's try put the french side one point away and then antoine hastoy*s conversion

sealed the victory. not only have la rochelle won back—to—back to titles but they've also beaten leinster in successive finals. 7 stages to go at the giro d'italia — germany's nico denz won stage 14 but there's a surprise new leader after geraint thomas and the group of race favourites took it easy, in terrible wet weather. frenchman bruno arm—ee—rye started the day in 22nd place, nearly 19 minutes off the pace — he now leads thomas by one minutes and 41 seconds. drew savage explains why. a rider needs many qualities to win a grand tour, endurance, the ability to deal with all weather conditions and to stay healthy for three weeks. sometimes, to pick your battles and look at the bigger picture. that was the case for geraint thomas today. that pinkjersey can be a mixed blessing — it means an hour of interviews every day, while your rivals are already recovering. primoz roglic, in the black and yellow of thejumbo visma team — is two seconds behind thomas

in the standings but he was playing it safe too. so as the race reached flatter terrain a clearer picture emerged. a breakaway group was allowed to gain minutes and minutes. germany's nico denz won his second giro stage, while in the second group across the line was the unheralded frenchman bruno armirail. he'd started the day 22nd but as the thomas group, tactically, trundled over the line 20 minutes later, armirial inherited the race lead. the welshman content to let that pinkjersey go for now — the french rider more than happy to accept it and all that comes with it. danny savage, bbc news. ——drew savage. it's a big night of boxing. as the light—weight world champion — ireland's katie taylor — hopes to become only the second fighter in the modern era to hold all the major belts, at two different weights. the fight against england's chantelle cameron is a homecoming too.

the first major boxing event to be held in the republic for almost a decade. ade adedoyin reports. one of ireland's much cherished sports stars, having won multiple professional titles abroad, now a chance for katie taylor to finally box at and make history. i've wanted to ever since i turned pro six years ago. i wanted to do was box at home. i'm a proud irish woman. i've had the chance to box on big nights, madison square garden being one of them, but i think the only thng to top msg is a big homecoming fight like this can have a chance of fighting in front of my own people. it could possibly be that best night of my career so far to date. but the recent history of boxing and airmen has been a challenge. in 2016, a gangland shooting at a weigh—in brought an end to big ten boxing. terry's homecoming will be the first major fight in dublin in seven years. for boxing to be brought back
7:52 pm
here with kate taylor head—lining, it's huge, it's monumental. people will be there to support her saturday night, it is going to be like ireland waking up in 1990 again. a national treasure and a trailblazer. taylor's inspiration came from deadre. the first irish woman to win a world title back in the 90s. a time when women's boxing was frowned upon. it's healing a lot of my own heart breaks for my career and the fact that i never got a chance to box in ireland as a professional, and seeing it happen now is really healing my heart, to be quite honest. as the light welterweight title is on the line committee is very much like the katie taylor show. she's the one that the majority of the crowd will be there to see him fight night, the question is, can cameron upset the homecoming party? she's always been an idol to me and i have a lot of respect for her. i will always have respect for her, at the end of the day, when the bell goes, she's another opponent,
7:53 pm
and as soon as i'm facing someone, i've got that mentality of winning. i don't care who you are or what you've done. i am there to win. chantel cameron is a good fighter, hard fight to call. _ i think one of the big things - is people assume that katie isjust going to win everything, so that in itself has - a lot of pressure and it| brings pressure on her. but this isn't a gimmie fight. it's a hard fight - for both contenders. i can see it as anything other than a cracking fight. - a huge night for ireland and katie taylor. a win, she will become the only second boxer in the modern era to hold all the major belts into different weight divisions at the same time. the first sitting volleyball international to take place in the uk since london 2012 is under way in nottingham with players hoping it will mark the start of their bid to return to the paralympics. the british women's and men's team's lost all funding support after failing to win a medal 11 years ago, but have now received just short of £a00,000 from uk sport

to kick—start a new programme leading into paris 202a. nick hope reports it's a sport dubbed the great leveler. it's amazing. it might be controversial, but it's better than standing volleyball. you are all on a fairly level playing field. you've always got to be ready for that block, that hit. - otherwise that ball, unfortunately, might hit you in the face. - some of the boys hit the ball at 60 or 70 mph and you've got less than a second to react. i love the speed of the game and the teamwork. i guess it's a sense of freedom that you don't get in other sports, - where they are limited by prosthetics or wheelchairs. that means i can compete with people without feeling like i'm at a huge disadvantage. which is a great thing about the sports committee can play it with anyone. 11 years ago, they played in front of seemingly anyone and everyone, sell—out clouds and record tv figures during the london

2012 paralympics. they were full of optimism for the future. ultimately, no medal meant to no funding. london 2012 will always be in my heart, because it's home nation, 10,000 people cheering you on, it was my life. when funding got cut and going back into the real world after being a professional athlete for so long, i'd hit me hard. i went through a lot of downtime. it was difficult to go back into reality. tell us how tough that time was and has been. it was really challenging. you are on the back end of nowhere, the roof isn't high enough, trying to get people there, even just get it out there and known, you are almost stealing and borrowing from people just to get by. after that struggle, they now have support, from uk sports, as a result, britton can again host major events. ——from uk sports, as a result, britain can again host major events. and this is one of them.

the silver nations league here in nottingham, the first setting volleyball international to take place in the uk since london 2012. the players have loved it over the last few days and hope it's the first step towards qualifying for paralympics and gaining in head. ——in the years ahead. for a lot of us we haven't played to a home crowd. after london 2012, there was a legacy, and i we have to keep that legacy going to paris and to la, or maybe beyond. it would be amazing to go, - you know what, we've got there, we've got there together, - despite all the challenges we've encountered, it would be amazing. let's go gb, let's go! go gb! that's all from sportsday. our top story again, nottingham forced had beaten arsenal, ensuring manchester city are champions of england again and this is how the club is operating on social media,

but their post three in a row, they will now hope to win the travel, nottingham for us to save for another season in the primary. that is all from us. good night. hello again. we will continue to see big differences in the weather around the uk this weekend. it was a beautiful day today in wales, plenty of sunshine in england as well. some fair weather cloud, but didn't spoil things, temperatures reaching 20—20 celsius. much more cloud, though, across scotland and also in northern ireland, and that has been producing some rain and drizzle. it's been getting a little bit wetter as well. we've had that stripe of cloud sitting in the northwest of the uk. next weather front is sort of bumping into the back of it, and that's why we're seeing some rain this evening and into the first part of the night, at least for scotland and northern ireland. the rain does peter out later on. england and wales, clear skies for the most part, some misty weather, low cloud and some fog patches for eastern areas.
7:58 pm
temperatures could be as low as 11—5 celsius. it will be milder in scotland and northern ireland. let's set the scene, then, for sunday, we've still got high—pressure setting of the uk. that weather front just sort of fizzling out, if you like. and we've got an easterly breeze coming in, and that is going to bring in some of this cloud that's there in the north sea onto some eastern coasts, and maybe more cloud across the southeast during the afternoon. sunshine elsewhere for england and wales, and a warm day as well, but still that cloud for scotland and northern ireland. not much rain coming from it in the afternoon, and we may get a bit of sunshine in the north west of scotland. not going to do much for the temperatures, mind you, if anything, it may be a little bit cooler than today in scotland and northern ireland, but those temperatures can again, 20—21 celsius in england and wales. high—pressure for the start of next week. this little weather front here coming into the northwest, not bringing much rain. that will move away, it'll be followed by odd shower for western scotland and perhaps northern ireland.
7:59 pm
england and wales looks dry, plenty of sunshine, perhaps more of a northerly breeze, but those temperatures holding pretty steady. 17 celsius in the central belt of scotland, 21 celsius in south wales. high—pressure will continue to shape our weather right the way into next week, and occasionally, we'll see some weather fronts bringing a little rain towards northern scotland, perhaps the north of northern ireland. and on wednesday, perhaps some cooler air moving down from the northwest as well. certainly no hot weather on the way for next week. pleasant enough, and temperatures, on the whole, near average. and for much of next week week, it is going to be dry with sunshine at times.
