he expected viniciuer to remain at the spanish club despite the racist abuse he's faced, and the bbc also spoke to former real madrid president ramon calderon. it is a problem. i haven't said that it isn't. but it is not a problem of spain, it is a problem of the whole world, and i have been in many countries with problems like this in stadiums and in the streets, and it's something we have to fight against. how? i suppose with education, we need racism awareness within the population, that this kind of thing cannot be tolerated, but not only in spain. everywhere in the world. manchester city manager pep guardiola believes there will be an inevitable drop off in intensity from his players, now the premier league title has been retained. but he has warned that major challenges still lie ahead — as his side chase a treble. he was speaking ahead

4:43 pm
government has done right. the uk authorities have taken decisive and responsible steps in recent months and this has promoted macro economic and financial stability, during a time of heightened market volatility. their efforts and the recent decline in energy prices are beginning to have a favourable impact on the economy. the view there from the imf. i asked one economist earlier if the imf perhaps got their forecasts wrong in the past. they did get it wrong but they were not the only ones so if we go back to the end of last year, the bank of england was forecasting five quarters of negative growth starting in the final quarter of last year and they recently increased their forecast and they no longer see recession either so the imf are

following on from what the market already knows and if we go back to maybe march this year, we began to see a slow off better than expected in terms of uk economic data and the pound reacted to that and it was the best performing g ten currency in the first quarter of this year but i must make a difference here, andrew bailey pointed this out in may, at the bank of england's report time, and whilst we have had better data than expected, it is not really good. it is still pretty weak and even the numbers from the imf today, yes, we will not see a recession, but the growth outlook is still pretty poor. but the growth outlook is still pretty poor-— but the growth outlook is still re poorrh ., , ,, but the growth outlook is still re noor.g., ., , ,, ., pretty poor. jane foley speaking to me earlier- — social media platform tiktok has sued the us state of montana to prevent authorities there from slapping an overall ban on the video sharing app. the move is set to start in 202a. but tiktok said the ban will violate the rights to free speech. 0ur asia business reporter
4:45 pm
katie silver explains. the lawsuit comes a week after the state of montana passed a law to ban the platform that originally started in china and a quick reminder, tiktok will be fined if it operates in the state under this ban and app stores cannot offer it but it does not ban people who already have it from using it and this is due to come in effect in the 1st of january next year. tiktok says the ban would affect the us right to freedom of speech and tiktok says it offers a platform for free speech and the lawsuit actually goes so far as to say that the ban would be unlawful and unconstitutional. tiktok has come under scrutiny from authorities around the world over concerns that data could be passed to the chinese government, data that the app would collect, and the parent company of tiktok has consistently denied this.
4:46 pm
the lawsuit makes a challenge on the basis of this, arguing that montana has actually overstepped its authority and the company says user data and issues of national security are under the jurisdiction of the federal government are not the state. it is well and truly a very important lawsuit for the company to win because while the state of montana only has about a million people, tiktok says it has more than hundred 50 million users in the us which is close to half the population of the —— if the figures are true, and there is a fear that this could set a precedent, and if others follow the lead of the state of montana, that could be bad news indeed for tiktok. staying in the us, and markets remain on tenterhooks, as there are still no signs of a debt ceiling deal with washington yet. this is after presidentjoe biden met yesterday with top republican kevin mccarthy. both men said talks were "productive" and repeated their stance that a default is off the table.
4:47 pm
to avoid that, though, they'll have to work out an agreement within the next ten days. samira hussain is in our new york bureau. the clock is ticking and mccarthy said yesterday if a deal is to be done it has got to be done this week. absolutely, because it is a long weekend in the us, and normally congress would be on break but mr mccarthy said if there is work to be done he will call congress back to washington to work throughout this weekend. that is the challenge, even if the white house and kevin mccarthy come up with the deal, mr mccarthy come up with the deal, mr mccarthy has got to take it back to congress and make sure he can get the deal passed in the house. it really is coming down to the wire and yes there are assurances from both the white house and the republicans, that they will not let the debt ceiling cross, and there
4:48 pm
are a limited number of days until the 1st ofjune deadline and that is when the us will cross the debt ceiling and the potential economic damage could be quite significant. you will follow every twist and turn for us, i know that. thanks for joining us. a us company claims to have created a weapons scanner, using sensor technology and artificial intelligence. it was touted as a revolutionary product — one that could detect bombs, guns and knives. but as our north america technology reporterjames clayton explains, there are concerns the company has over—hyped what it can actually do.
4:49 pm
last year, the bbc published an investigation about evolv technology. the company has created a weapon scanner that it claims can detect all weapons designed to replace traditional metal detectors. you just pass through it, and if you're carrying a weapon, the system will detect it and alert security. here's the company's ceo, peter george. we have the signatures for all the weapons in the world, all the guns that exist, all the bombs, all the large tactical knives. now the bbc can reveal more detail about how one school has major reservations about the technology. 0n halloween last year, a boy was stabbed in proctor school in utica, new york. it was brutal and vicious. the video of the stabbing went viral. the victim's lawyer told the bbc the student suffered extensive multiple stab and laceration wounds about his head, neck, face, shoulder, back and hand. but what was less clear was how the perpetrator got hold of that knife and got it through security. the school district investigated and this is what they concluded. through investigation was determined
4:50 pm
the evolv weapon detection system purchased at the direction of him does not detect metal objects and was not designed to detect knives. the evolv weapon system was designed for use at large arenas or stadiums to prevent incidents of mass casualties and is not adequate or practical for school use. since then, the superintendent of utica schools has said that three other knives have gone undetected in schools using evolv*s systems. "it truly, truly doesn't detect knives," he told the bbc. we put all of this to evolv. they said, "we don't provide comments on what happens in our customers sites." but the bbc did find the company has recently changed its website, whereas the company did promise weapons free zones, it now promises safer zones. so what is evolv actually promising here? connor healy is from the security research firm ip pvm. he told the bbc there's an epidemic of schools buying new technology based on audacious marketing claims, then finding out it has hidden flaws. evolv is one of the worst
4:51 pm
offenders, he said. and while there are questions about the effectiveness of evolv*s technology, there are many who wonder why they're being used in american schools. proceedings were delayed as protesters ran to the front of the room. the disruption meant the meeting struggled to get under and protesters were removed as campaign groups ramp up pressure energy companies like shell to commit to absolute carbon emission cuts by 2030 and focus on renewables. you are up—to—date. we will see very soon. thank you very much for the latest in business. we have been
