concerns in the local community regarding the timeline of events which culminated in the fatal collision. including cctv footage which shows a police vehicle following a bike. therefore i want to confirm the timeline of events that took place as we know them at this time. we would have liked to have provided this level of information yesterday but this is a complex investigation and we had to be sure of the facts before confirming them. we have been busy obtaining witness accounts, analysing tracking data from police vehicles and studying cctv. and this is what we know now. 17 59, cctv shows the bike travelling towards the police vehicle on frank road, the police vehicle on frank road, the bike then turns around. 18 00,

occurred afterwards in terms of people's behaviour is totally unacceptable. i absolutely know, as you do, that the people of ely condemn that. but they don't want that to be happening in their neighbourhood, neither do we, and we will work tirelessly with them to understand what we can do to support them going forward.— them going forward. under caution, them going forward. under caution, the offices in _ them going forward. under caution, the offices in the _ them going forward. under caution, the offices in the van _ them going forward. under caution, the offices in the van had _ them going forward. under caution, the offices in the van had they - them going forward. under caution, the offices in the van had they beenj the offices in the van had they been questioned under caution? know they haven't. questioned under caution? know they haven't- -- — questioned under caution? know they haven't- -- no. _ questioned under caution? know they haven't. -- no, they— questioned under caution? know they haven't. -- no, they haven't. - questioned under caution? know they haven't. -- no, they haven't. their. haven't. -- no, they haven't. their journalist — haven't. -- no, they haven't. their journalist considered _ haven't. -- no, they haven't. their journalist considered to _ haven't. -- no, they haven't. their journalist considered to fire - journalist considered to fire questions in the news conference at the back ends. the police are under considerable pressure there in terms of the initial information that they put out. worth just showing these pictures again before i recount what the police have just pictures again before i recount what the police havejust said. because these new pictures that the bbc have
4:45 pm
obtained verified footage of the two teenagers who died in ely, these pictures were taken at 17 58 in terms of the time on may the 22nd and that was about five minutes before south wales police say that the accident occurred. let me take you through the key planks of what we heard there from police. i refer to what they initially said on the hours after the accident and collision. but they were very, very keen to talk about the timeline of events. the office as saying that they would like to have given the information they have given today yesterday but said it was a complex investigation where they have been studying cctv, looking at tracking data and interviewing witnesses. the timeline that she provided and she went through in minute detail. she talked about 17 59 shows the bike
4:46 pm
and then she said at 1800 the bike was followed by a police vehicle, those are the pictures that we saw yesterday that appeared on the cctv. she made the point that neither a blue light or a siren was used at that stage. then over the next couple of minutes, they went through the various streets the vehicles have been in saying that at 1802, the accident happened in snowden road and made the point that the police vehicle was half a mile away in snowdon road. this most recent of the boys and the families of the two boys, kyrees sullivan and harvey evans who died in that collision. the family is paying tribute to the
4:47 pm
best friends in a statement saying, they were loved by not only their families but by the community as well. just to go back to what the police were saying, they made the point that after news of the accident, that police vehicle they were talking about, the one that we had seen in the imagery at 1800, they then went to snowdon road, that on their sirens and they continue to take witness statements. but then turned to the violence that they said followed in the hours saying nothing excuse that and they were investigating the appalling scenes that followed. those are some of the key lines from the news conference, thomas morgan was there listening to it. and as you joined us, that news conference ended with more questions being fired at the police. but it
4:48 pm
being fired at the police. but it being brought to an end and they are under considerable pressure about the information that they release not today necessarily but yesterday. yes, that is right. still the main part of this press conference from deputy chief constable was talking through the timeline of events as the police have put it together so far. they have been tracking the police vehicle, timestamp codes and where the vehicle has been an cctv that they have been able to get hold of as well. they have come to the assumption that when the fatal crash took place at the police that were following them were on grand avenue just a couple of streets down. i also asked them, the way this has been handled by the police, we had the police crime commission on the radio yesterday morning saying that no chaser taken place and that was rumours and still saying that perhaps the pursue to taken place
4:49 pm
some point before the crash. we still haven't got more details about why a possibly police were following them, that is because deputy chief constable has said that because they have referred themselves to the iopc they can't go into any more information about why potentially the police were following the two boys yesterday. but i also asked about the credibility and trust in the police because i have been in that community for the past 24 are lies and people were speaking about distrust in the police even before we had this video footage yesterday. and i think, in the way that this has come out, the in terms of the timeline coming out. uncertainly, yesterday and morning, that distrust has possibly got worse in the way that this has been handled. i was auoin to that this has been handled. i was going to ask _ that this has been handled. i was going to ask you _ that this has been handled. i was going to ask you exactly - that this has been handled. i was going to ask you exactly on - that this has been handled. i was going to ask you exactly on that point because the police are keen to stress about the violence, the unrest saying that there were upsy no excuses for that. how much anger
4:50 pm
as they're still in the community? there is a lot of anger. there isn't any police presence when we were there earlierjust before we came to this press conference. that may be a tactical decision, i'm not sure. certainly think that a police presence may be there now because of the heightened emotion wouldn't be the heightened emotion wouldn't be the greatest thing because emotions are high especially away around where the crash took place. there are two stories here, there is the crash and how that happened and then there is the violence, two separate things. the iopc is looking at how police handled events prior to the crash but when it comes to the violence that was touched on just now by the deputy chief constable and she was saying, of course, that was abhorrent in scenes like that should not be happening at all. and they are trawling through hundreds of hours of footage and hundreds of hours of social media footage and they are going through about 180

4:58 pm
and sunset pictures. now, those contrails are starting to move away towards france and the air is getting drier seven miles up in the atmosphere. and so you're less likely to see those contrails hang around quite so long today. and weatherwise this afternoon, for most of us, a lot of sunshine. 0k, there's a bit more cloud on this very weak weather front. for west scotland, northern ireland, you might see the odd a bit of rain, but for the vast majority it's a dry and fine afternoon with long spells of sunshine. feeling warm in that strong may sun. temperatures high teens to low 20s. now, overnight tonight, a few patches of cloud drifting southwards, but for many we'll keep the clear skies. temperatures very similar to recent nights, 7 to 9 degrees your overnight low. bit colder than that across parts of northern scotland in shelter. then we've got more of the same over the next few days. high pressure stays with us. the winds coming around that in a clockwise sense. so the winds coming off the atlantic and that means temperatures aren't really going to change that much. thursday, another fine day then. 0k, there could be a little bit more in the way of fine cloud across central and eastern areas of england, but not really spoiling things much at all. and the same is true perhaps for northern ireland. temperatures high teens to low 20s, probably peaking at about 23 degrees
4:59 pm
for south and east wales, the south west midlands, south west england. butjust a reminder, how does that compare compared with recent warm spells in may? well, it puts us pretty much bottom of the pile. 0ften our warm spells at this time of year result in temperatures into the mid to high 20s. so it's not that warm, really. 0n into friday's forecast, another dry day, perhaps a bit more cloud just running into the far north of scotland. could see an odd bit of rain from that, but again, not very much at all. for most, it's dry, temperatures again reaching the low 20s in the warmest spots. now heading into the bank holiday weekend, that high pressure continues to dominate the weather picture so it stays dry for most. i think there'll be a tendency for temperatures to rise a bit further. so more of us seeing temperatures getting into those low 20s. feeling warm in the may sun.
5:00 pm
live from london, this is bbc news. south wales police have again insisted there was no police vehicle industry in cardiff where two boys were killed in a crash on monday evening. the bbc verifies new video. there was no police vehicle in snowden road at the time of the collision, and we believe there were no other vehicles involved in the incident. two big political stories in the uk — we have the latest on the controversies involving the home secretary and boris johnson. florida's governor, ron desantis, is about to announce his bid to be the republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
