yes, the premier league has what it calls parachute payments, which allows luton to go into the transfer market and to be able to offer football players a fair salary by premier league standards, and for more than one year, otherwise the danger is that you go from tv money of £100 million back to £8 million a game, and that would make it very difficult, that would become a huge risk. so you get around £75 million over the next two seasons, even if you are relegated, and that will allowed the club to cushion the blow of relegation, but also to be able to go into the markets and the science good players, they will obviously be wanting to keep players who have achieved promotion this season as well, and they will be rewarded as far as their pay packets are concerned. 1 rewarded as far as their pay packets are concerned.— are concerned. i was 'ust asking the others, do — are concerned. i was 'ust asking the others. do you _ are concerned. i was 'ust asking the others, do you think — are concerned. i wasjust asking the others, do you think that _ are concerned. i wasjust asking the others, do you think that ticket - others, do you think that ticket prices will go up, the price of your chip buddy on the ground will go up,

that sort of thing?— that sort of thing? there is no reason to _ that sort of thing? there is no reason to increase _ that sort of thing? there is no reason to increase ticket - that sort of thing? there is no i reason to increase ticket prices. again, compared to bournemouth, who i think are a good benchmark, they only generate 3% of the total revenue in the premier league from match day ticket sales, so you might as well keep the ticket prices the same, you know, that is a reward to the fans, given that you are getting £100 million worth of tv money, trying to get more money from the fans when you are only generating a couple of million from ticket sales, i do not think it is necessary. and also, in the premier league,, you have got five fewer games at kenilworth road, because the premier league is a smaller competition than they will have been playing in championship and the other divisions from which they have progressed in the past few years.— the past few years. thank you very much, a football _ the past few years. thank you very much, a football finance _ the past few years. thank you very much, a football finance expert, . the past few years. thank you very much, a football finance expert, i | much, a football finance expert, i know you have a sign of the bakinson you are on air as well, very good!

years, it has been such a rise back to the top four luton town. it was 1992, the last time that they were in the top flight, that was when top flight was turning into the premier league, and they were relegated, so they didn't quite make it into the first season of the premier league, and it has taken until now four luton town to get right back to the top flight of football, and quite a journey as well, you know, because over the years, it was ten years ago that they kind of fell down through the ranks, they were playing in non—league football, the 50, they have gone through various administrations, they had points deductions, they were relegated, so a real rise for luton town to be back at the top table of football, you know, a realjourney for them as a club, for their you know, a realjourney for them as a club, fortheirfan you know, a realjourney for them as a club, for theirfan base, in order to get back. as we have been hearing, over the last half hour, even with them back at the top flight of football, they have done it in such a sensible way over the
12:38 pm
last couple of years, a lot of times we look at the top—flight undersea astronomical amounts of money being spent on players and facilities and resources, and we are seeing the ground that they play in, and the very small budget that they have four players, a budget that was small in the championship, more comparable to the budget for league one, and yet they have been able to secure promotion to the top—flight for that. so if you are a neutral sports fan, it is a real story to get behind, a real romantic story to have luton town right back at the top of football now.— have luton town right back at the top of football now. yeah, we like a fai tale, top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale. don't _ top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale, don't we? _ top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale, don't we? as _ top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale, don't we? as we - top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale, don't we? as we talk - top of football now. yeah, we like a fairy tale, don't we? as we talk to l fairy tale, don't we? as we talk to you, we are seeing the pictures of the players finally going towards the players finally going towards the bus with the medals around their neck, the player trophy leading the way ahead of them, they have got it already, they will have it on the bus with them, and then we will see it presented to them, the mayor will presented to them on the stage at st george's square in a few minutes or

so. so the bus is going to drive about a mile from the stadium there, from the ground, all the way through, it is going to take them 15 minutes, we think, to drive there, where they will be greeted by thousands of fans. sarah, i was here in the studio on saturday watching you presenting your sports programme while that penalty shoot out was taking place, it was really hard to concentrate on what you are doing, i know, but such an extraordinary penalty shoot out, such brilliant penalties and so calm, won't they? all of them, actually, so sad at the end when it doesn't go coventry*s way, but such a brilliant penalty shoot—out, as a neutral! way, but such a brilliant penalty shoot-out, as a neutral! absolutely, and as a neutral, _ shoot-out, as a neutral! absolutely, and as a neutral, the _ shoot-out, as a neutral! absolutely, and as a neutral, the championshipl and as a neutral, the championship play—off final is one of the best games to watch, because for all the clubs involved every year, there is so much on the line, and particularly when you had the likes of luton and also coventry, who had a similar enough story in terms of where they have come from, battling
12:40 pm
it out to make the top—flight, and the way they did it, you know, it is just enthralling, and the drama we got, you know, luton on top for the first half, they were in control, i head, coventry fought back, we went to extra time, we had the ball in the back of the net, a luton player thought he had scored, but it was ruled out for handball, so it went to penalties. i mean, anything go to penalties, you have to applaud any player who steps up and puts himself forward bravely to take a penalty in that moment. you know, ifeel those nerves in my stomach, even if i am not bagging any of the team, when a player steps up to the spot to take a spot kick, and they were brilliant penalties, every one of them scored in the first five, and so it went to sudden death. and you felt for dabo, the coventry player who missed, but such joy and elation for the luton town players who i am sure have been
12:41 pm
celebrating for the last couple of days and they will be serenaded here by their fans and outward for tom lockyer, their captain, who went down in the first half and was taken away, was in hospital, we know he has been tweeting and his dad has been tweeting that he has been undergoing tests and was able to celebrate from there, which was good to see, so it will be interesting to see whether he has been released from hospital and will be on the bus to celebrate. there was that moment within the game where you felt it could have changed things for luton town, with him going off, but it almost galvanised to them, and it was nice for the team to be able to do it for him in that moment as well. i do it for him in that moment as well. ., * ~' do it for him in that moment as well. ., * ,, . well. i don't think that i saw him taettin well. i don't think that i saw him getting on _ well. i don't think that i saw him getting on the — well. i don't think that i saw him getting on the bus, _ well. i don't think that i saw him getting on the bus, although - well. i don't think that i saw him getting on the bus, although i. well. i don't think that i saw him i getting on the bus, although i may have missed him, let me know if you see him as well, we should spare a thought for the coventry player, dabo, who was probably not watching right now, because so cool, i
12:42 pm
suppose, the penalty shoot—out, but it bodes well for them, for luton, to show how cruel they are under pressure, because they are facing a lot of pressure now in the premier league. it lot of pressure now in the premier leaaue. . . lot of pressure now in the premier leaiue, , ., ., ,, lot of pressure now in the premier leaaue. ,. . ,, , , lot of pressure now in the premier leaaue. , , ,., league. it is a massive step up for luton town _ league. it is a massive step up for luton town to _ league. it is a massive step up for luton town to be _ league. it is a massive step up for luton town to be playing - league. it is a massive step up for luton town to be playing in - league. it is a massive step up for luton town to be playing in the . luton town to be playing in the premier league next year, but they have a really good squad and a good manager in rob edwards, and he was managing watford at the start of the season, so we kind of understands what it is to be competing at the top level and also competing when there is an awful lot more of a spotlight on you, an awful lot more pressure on you. watford is a club that comes with a lot of pressure and attention, and he didn't last that long, so he grew from it. he had previously been out forest green rovers, similar to luton in terms of how they have been managing themselves and getting up through themselves and getting up through the system, you know, so he is kind of built a team around him, he took over a team that were already well organised, nathanjones in charge
12:43 pm
for a significant period of luton's development and progression through the leagues over the last couple of years, and he took them on, he didn't change an awful lot, he just got them consistently playing the way they have been set up to play, empowering them, giving them the confidence to play. he has may brought a little bit more aggression to their play, and it is always really interesting when you have a championship team stepping into the premier league and the different styles of play, but you can see compared to top—flight football, that will change for luton town. but for the smaller teams, traditionally, coming up in that first season, a lot of it relies on the team bonds that they have and how used to playing they are, and i imagine that will be, you know, a big part of luton's plans next year, to keep a lot of the spine of players together, so they have that sense of familiarity, and then bringing in, you know, a couple of players who can add to what they already have. there is no doubt that there will be a big test, but there
12:44 pm
will also be huge excitement for them, you know, that adrenaline i am sure they will feel when i have that first premier league game in the new season, and what the fans can do to really get behind them, and that can be a really powerful thing when they are coming up the likes of manchester city and manchester united, who are used to this day in, day out. united, who are used to this day in, da out. * . united, who are used to this day in, da out. * , , ., day out. it'll be interesting for the premier _ day out. it'll be interesting for the premier league _ day out. it'll be interesting for the premier league players i day out. it'll be interesting for i the premier league players from day out. it'll be interesting for - the premier league players from some of the biggest clubs the world, going to the ground that we are just seeing the buses outside, kenilworth road, where, as we have been hearing, just a capacity of 10,000 people, the intimacy of the match that perhaps they will feel any different kind of pressure, because they are so unused to playing in that sort of surroundings, i wonder if that will have an impact on their mentally. while we are speaking, we are looking at the pictures of the bus, the team are on board the bus now, with the play of trophy, and it has not moved yet, it is sitting
12:45 pm
there for a while, a lot of people sending them off, but it will be moving through the streets to st george's square, where thousands of people dressed in orange are waiting to congratulate them. so i suppose, sarah, do you think it could have an impact on other premier league players when they come to the ground, the difference for them? yeah, absolutely, and it will be one of the things that luton as a club and a team will really try to harness, the power of this intimate ground, using it as a fortress and really kind of trying to play that to their strengths, because you look at some of the other teams, and i will be used to playing, you know, potentially on wider pitches where there is more space, you know, different styles of football can play well on that, but if you are coming into a more claustrophobic environment, you know, where the crowds will really be on top of them, they may not be able to hear as much as they are usually able to hear when fans are so close to them,
12:46 pm
whether they would hear the instructions from the sideline. it is all those different things that a lot of the top players want to be used to for many years, from when they were starting out, so i'm sure luton town will be trying to make it as much of an advantage and a bonus and a positive for them, and the fans will play a huge part in that, and they will know that themselves, you know, that is something that will mark them apart, they will want to use that as a 12th man. i am will mark them apart, they will want to use that as a 12th man.— to use that as a 12th man. i am glad to use that as a 12th man. i am glad to tell ou to use that as a 12th man. i am glad to tell you that _ to use that as a 12th man. i am glad to tell you that our _ to use that as a 12th man. i am glad to tell you that our reporter, tom i to tell you that our reporter, tom williams, has made it onto the top of that bus, i have just seen him williams, has made it onto the top of that bus, i havejust seen him on there, a lot of media on that bus, as well as the players and a trophy, so hopefully we will hear from him a little bit later when we can get to him. i wonder if that will change as well, whether they will be less likely to want to talk to the media, it might be harder to get them when they are premier league players! filth. they are premier league players! oh, it is alwa s they are premier league players! oh, it is always the _ they are premier league players! oi it is always the way, we want so much, don't we? they will have
12:47 pm
busier schedules, they will have increased attention and scrutiny on them, you know, there is so much more that goes along with being a premier league player now, and probably one of the biggest things is the change in the global attention around the world. you know, the premier league is a huge export around the world, you know, for clubs there is a huge marketing advantage and bonus to making it there. there is so much support and following for the premier league all around the world, in new markets and territories for them, that it is a different world, and those players will have the summer to try and wrap their heads around it, and they will have felt it over the last couple of days, you know, with the attention and the celebrations and everybody looking for interviews and wanting to kind of know how they are all getting on, celebrating together, a really positive moment, but it will be an adjustment for them, and when it starts off, you know, if it is
12:48 pm
going well, that is great, but if results are not going their way and may be the style of football isn't quite gelling or fitting may be the style of football isn't quite gelling orfitting in may be the style of football isn't quite gelling or fitting in the premier league, and if they are finding themselves down in a relegation battle, the attention will be so much greater than they have experienced before in championship and lower league football, and it will be interesting to see how they kind of manage that and navigate that. but that will be everything that rob edwards and the team around them will be using as inspiration for them, saying, this is your moment, you know, this is where you want to be as an athlete, this is the pressure you want to put yourself under to perform on the highest level. and theyjust need to kind of, i suppose, highest level. and theyjust need to kind of, isuppose, manage highest level. and theyjust need to kind of, i suppose, manage it in the right way and get the right messages across in a positive way to those players who will be, no doubt, looking forward to a little bit of a summer off, but so excited, i'm sure, for premier league football next season. we sure, for premier league football next season-— sure, for premier league football next season. ~ . , , next season. we are 'ust seeing the buses finauy _ next season. we are just seeing the buses finally moving, _ next season. we are just seeing the
