saying that if the firms don�*t begin negotiations over the data next week, they�*ll publish the information. our cyber correspondenant joe tidy is in the newroom with more on the latest. we know that they are a notorious cybercrime gang and they specialise in something called run somewhere which is a type of incident we see right now with a gain entry into an organisation�*s system, it system, and they steal data and ransom it back to the companies, threatening to publish online. sometimes they also install malicious software that encrypts and scrambles all that data so the organisations can have access to the systems. in this case they haven�*t done that which is some relief to some of the organisations affected, but we also know that clop has been around since 2019, they have hit many organisations around the world and most of their targets are in the us. we think they could be based in russia, but of course you never really know in the cybercrime world where the hackers

smoke in canadian wildfires is drifting across the border into the united states —... prompting air quality alerts from minnesota to new york city. 0ur newsroom reporter naomi choy smith has more. well, the air quality in new york city was so bad yesterday that it briefly reached the top of the most polluted cities in the entire world. and it is not hard to see why, or not see why, from this photograph year, which should be a view of the manhattan skyline from brooklyn, but the manhattan skyline is completely obscured by that haze. the statue of liberty, same situation, shrouded in that orange smoke from the canadian wildfires. another icon of the new york city skyline, one world trade center, well you can barely see it there because of the pollution from those wildfires. and new yorkers i have been speaking with and indeed taking to social media to say that they have breathing difficulties from the poor air quality. in fact, this meteorologist saying that new york city resembled mars yesterday due to that thick plume

of smoke from quebec, and mentioning the very poor air quality. of course, that is the concern in all of this. as the new york city mayor eric adams tweeted, if you are a new yorker with heart or breathing issues, be careful when you are outdoors today, because of course poor air quality can really affect human health. and it is notjust in new york city. more than 100 million americans are being warned because of the high pollutants and the poor air quality everywhere from new york to minnesota. and what is causing all of this? well, it is the wildfires that have been raging in quebec for the last few weeks. more than 160 wildfires as of last count. you can see here this is a satellite image showing roughly the plumes of smoke that are drifting from those wildfires down further south. to give you a sense of where that is, that is this area here, and it is moving all the way
