most parts of the uk. this weather watch picture was sent in from north—west well, currently one of the hotspots. talking about heat, todayis the hotspots. talking about heat, today is likely to be the hottest day of the year so far. it is a start we don't get too often because as we head into the weekend temperatures are expected to hit 30 degrees. how unusual is that? we get 30 degrees injune pretty much every year and many of us look forward to these warm spells. some of us hate these warm spells. some of us hate the heat and for people with underlying health conditions that can cause a few problems and that is why the heat health alert has been issued. 0n the satellite picture you can see the extent of the sunshine. it is not sunny everywhere. we have pesky, low cloud affecting scotland and north—east england, keeping temperatures suppressed. across the south—west of england that could be the odd patch of shower, probably not much rain, but big raindrops falling from it. the best of the

and northern ireland. temperatures again racing way, probably into the high 20s, so feeling very warm, if not hot. some areas in the west, in wales and northern ireland will have temperatures a little bit lower than we have seen over the last couple of weeks because it has been glorious in these western areas. thinking about what a heat wave is, you need three days above a certain temperature for a heatwave to be declared and in london the figure is 28. in manchester the figure is 26 and in glasgow 25. for some of us we are looking at the first heatwave of the year and you can see those temperatures stay on the high side well into next week. but still a risk of sundry downpours in the weekend and into monday as well. and that's bbc news at one. you can keep up with all the latest developments on the bbc website. the news continues here on bbc one, as now it's time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the news where you are, goodbye.
