djokovic has now won more grand slam titles than any other male player in history, one more than rafael nadal, and has also become the first men's player to win each of the grand slams three or more times. his opponent, ruud, was playing in his second successive french open final, but was beaten again, in straight sets. djokovic now moves back into the world number one spot. of course, the journey is still not over. ifeel, you know, if i'm winning slams, why even think about ending the career that already has been going on for 20 years? so, you know, i still feel motivated, i still feel inspired to play the best tennis on these tournaments the most, you know, grand slams. they are the ones they come the most in the history of our

sport, so i look forward again already to wimbledon. minutes after djokovic won, rafael nadal paid tribute to his long—time rival. he did not play at the french open because he's injured. "many congratulations on this amazing achievement, "23 is a number thatjust a few years back was impossible to think about and you made it." the french open tournament director amelie mauresmo insisted that the prime—time slots at roland garros are now more equally shared between male and female players, but she thinks more can be done with the night matches. the night sessions are promoted as the highlight of the day at roland garros, but only one women's match — aryna sabalanka taking on sloane stephens in the fourth round — was scheduled for a night—time slot. i'm comfortable with the scheduling on the day, but, yes, we can do better on the night matches. i don't know if that answers your question.

because you gave me numbers last year and also on the day, because it was more of an overall kind of statement or facts that you are giving me last year. my point is this year we put definitely way more women's matches on the prime slot in 2023. it doesn't make it perfect, yet, because of these night matches that are unique, that are only one matches, and that is where i come to the lens, and we talked about it last year or so. staying with tennis, the three—time grand slam champion, andy murray, has claimed his first grass—court singles title, since winning wimbledon in 2016. the 36—year—old beat juri rodionov in the surbiton trophy challengerfinal in straight sets. murray believes his decision to skip the french open has been justified, after making what he called the "perfect start" to his grass—court season.

they've won the treble and that hasn't happened very often. i spoke to some of the players on the pitch just after the game finished, and i saw them tired, i saw them happy, i saw them relieved, a mixture of emotions, but certainly they all came up with the same thing: there's nobody better in the world of football than us, and to have that sense that it's a debate that's finished right now, plus having the manager that not only is winning but has changed football, must be a gratifying feeling. australia have warmed up for the ashes by becoming the world test champions, beating india in the final by 209 runs. australia stamped out india's resistance in ruthless fashion at the 0val in london. nathan lyon finished with figures of 4—41, as india were left runners—up for a second successive final. with just five days to go before australia renew their biggest rivalry against england, cummins says winning the ashes would have a big impact on theirfutures.

ashes tend to define errors and teams. i think the great thing about this vinyl is we feel like we've played awesome cricket for the last two years, and being there at the end, holding the trophy, feels really well deserved. so that's great for our team, and really well deserved. so that's great for ourteam, and in really well deserved. so that's great for our team, and in a way, ashes are hard to win. i think it's been 20 odd years. so yes, it's not going to be easy, but if we were to win it, thatis easy, but if we were to win it, that is legacy defining. we thought the wicket would not change _ we thought the wicket would not change too much. in fact, it will— change too much. in fact, it will get _ change too much. in fact, it will get better and better. but obviously a lot of the things that— obviously a lot of the things that we _ obviously a lot of the things that we spoke of, how we want to bowl — that we spoke of, how we want to bowl how we want to bat, we didnt— to bowl how we want to bat, we didn't actually do that. that's probably— didn't actually do that. that's probably the reason we were very— probably the reason we were very much behind in the game, all four— very much behind in the game, all four days. looking forward to the first ashes test, which starts at edgbaston on friday. ferrari ended a 50—year absence from the le mans 24—hour race

hello, there. last week, we saw gradually widespread heat and humidity building across the country, culminating with a 32.2 celsius — warmest of the year so far — in chelsea and surrey. this year, we will start off with that heat and humidity. and that still brings the risk of some sharp, thundery downpours for some of us. as we move towards the end of the week, it'll certainly feel less humid. but it's still going to stay sunny, warm, and, unfortunately, if you're desperate for the rain, dry as well. so we've got high pressure with us at the moment. a weak weather front first thing on monday to clear away. it will do so. we've still got that light southeasterly just driving in that humid air coming in from the near continent. first thing on monday morning, a damp start across south wales. a murky start through
2:56 am
southwest england. maybe some cloud and a few scattered showers into the north of scotland. there'll be some sunshine. it'll be a warm, humid morning, and with that humidity into the afternoon, it will trigger off sharp and thundery downpours. like the last couple of days, very hit and miss, but if you catch them, you'll know about it. temperatures likely to be in the higher 20s for many. fewer showers into northern england. a few isolated showers to the west of northern ireland. some drifting across the north of scotland. but in sheltered western areas, we could see temperatures into the mid—20s. that's how we close out the day on monday. the thunderstorms will start to ease away. we'll continue to see a few isolated showers. but on the whole, it's another mild night. temperatures widely into the mid—teens to greet us first thing on tuesday morning. into tuesday, the wind direction changing a little into a light easterly. that will start to bring in slightly less humid air, as we go through the day, and also dry conditions. so not the chance, perhaps, of as many thunderstorms around on tuesday. top temperatures, though,
2:57 am
still into the high 20s. that is into the mid—80s fahrenheit. as we move out of tuesday into wednesday, still that easterly flow. but unlike last week, not going to produce that much in the way of cloud coming in off the north sea. it should stay dry. should be good visibility with sunshine, and temperatures down a degree or so — 20—26 degrees as the high. as we move into wednesday, we've got this high pressure sitting over towards scandinavia. once again, the wind direction coming from an easterly source, or a north—easterly source. a light breeze. we're not expecting too much in the way of cloud. but again, we start to lose that humidity. if we're going to see any showers, it's likely to be out into northern ireland. top temperatures again around 20—26 degrees. the high still slightly above where they should be for this time of year. little in the way of change as we go into friday.
2:58 am
we keep this dry theme going. threat perhaps of some showers starting to push into the west, but they should stay away, really. 0n the whole, again, still those temperatures into the mid—20s. it's going to be a promising week, if you like dry, settled and sunny weather. now, low pressure is trying to squeeze in further ahead, but it's a long way away. there's still a lot of uncertainty. it could throw a few showers our way. but computer models still want to suggest that dry, settled story is going to continue into the weekend, with perhaps more comfortable temperatures for most of us. so, a lot of dry weather in the forecast. not much rain out there for gardeners and growers.
