good books this free, i am in the good books this evening. though showers will continue to climb their way steadily north and west across the liverpool and manchester areas, but they will peter out this evening and the sharp showers in scotland are fading away as well. we keep a little bit of low cloud out to the west, but once again it is going to be another incredibly humid night for trying to get a good night's sleep as the temperature is holed up at around mid—teens for many of us. we start off tomorrow again dry, settled and sunny. we need to keep an eye on a few scattered showers, but on the whole pure showers around for england and wales and not the heavy, widespread thunderstorms. a different story to the west of northern ireland and in north—west scotland, some of those thunderstorms once again could be quite torrential. another warm day generally across the country, temperatures a degree or so down. a subtle change in wind direction
6:31 pm
tomorrow will mean eventually we are starting to feel less humid and there will be a lot of dry weather in the forecast. all this rain is not dampening spirits here you can watch the parade on bbc news it starts at seven o'clock this evening but right now it's time for the news where you are, goodbye. welcome to the programme. as manchester city celebrate their treble win with an open—top bus parade through manchester city centre — thousands of fans are here to celebrate their historic success. city are only the second english men's team to win the perfect treble of the champions league, the premier. due to reports of adverse weather conditions and localised lightning storms, which are expected to reach manchester city centre shortly, the start of the trophy parade will be delayed until 7pm.
6:32 pm
we can see some live pictures from the streets of manchester city centre now i think you can probably make out some lots of blue flags but also quite a few umbrellas. people taking cover from the also quite a few umbrellas. people taking coverfrom the rain under the awnings of the shops on the sides so like you can see, a slightly bedraggled looking manchester city centre. but people are still looking like they are in the party mood not to be dampened by that weather. we are expecting obviously that open top bus to weave its way through manchester eventually making its way to oxford street where we are expected to see the squad and pep guardiola arrive and celebrate in front of the fans on stage. the timing, like we mentioned earlier, have slept. we are constantly getting updates as to when we might expect that parade to get going but for now committed city fans are still just out on for now committed city fans are stilljust out on the street leaning
6:33 pm
against the barriers waiting for their heroes to give them that heroes welcome which they clearly deserve. after that treble success which have seen them just the second english men's team to achieve the feet of the fa cups, the premier league and the champions league. after man city won that game against inter milan. still scenes of jubilation on the streets of manchester people battling against the elements. people battling it against the elements but clearly they are out to have a good time regardless if they get the drizzle coming down on them. we will be keeping across those live pictures as the crowds build. as we hopefully see the parade start to get under way we are keeping across those pictures. we will keep in mind but we are now able to speak with our

presenter. well an extraordinary day in manchester and may be a typical manchurian day because of the weather and it has been torrential rain for the last little while many of the manchester city fans who have been writing these streets art looking for shelter under trees or in doorways but they are still determined to mark this moment is stay because of course it is the first time in their club's history that they have won this treble. quite an extraordinary feat to have achieve and of course it culminated on saturday at that champion the*s league final. it is the first time in the cups history but not the first time in england of course because 2a years ago back in 1999 manchester united achieved the same fate. but manchester city— now most definitely turned the city blue. and they are just waiting for this parade to take place so that they
6:35 pm
can start their party in earnest. and like all good parties there has been something of a delay to it beginning. that is the way with most of the parties though, isn't it? you probably hear the constant signs of the horns of the fans lining the streets and the parade was scheduled to begin around now but because of the adverse weather conditions and because of the threat of lightning it has been delayed slightly. but when it does beginning, the route will start from tiedeman street travelled to st. mary's gate and work its way through cross street, if you know manchester then you will note some of the names of these streets and will be familiar to you. before you will finish on the corner of the princeton street and that is where the players and all of the squads and of course their manager, pep guardiola will stand in a stage and present those three trophies to their waiting fans in that is when
6:36 pm
their waiting fans in that is when the party will start properly. as the party will start properly. as the open top bus, we hope it will be, we suspect it will be, it depends perhaps because the players might not want to get absolutely soaked the way that the fans have done. but it is supposed to be an open top parade. if that is the case then we are hoping that we will be able to see those three trophies displayed jubilantly by the whole of the squad in their manager. but as thisjourney is about the squad in their manager. but as this journey is about to begin let's talk about t's journey to get those three sharpies. we will start with the premier league because of course that was a bit of a struggle. it didn't look even at christmas as though manchester city were going to win the premier league because arsenal had been top for so long. with little chance of catching them at that point and then it did seem
6:37 pm
to click for pep guardiola and as arsenal began to throw away points, around the end of april that's when city gathered momentum. and it culminated in the manchester city. we have since lost a few camera pictures but again it's because of these weather conditions. again it has not stopped the manchester city fence because the hordes are continuously going along the streets of manchester —— horns. the rain seems to have eased a little as well. we were talking on the premier leaguejourney well. we were talking on the premier league journey because as we were saying, arsenal did seem to be top of the league for so long, but then itjust of the league for so long, but then it just clicked for of the league for so long, but then itjust clicked for pep guardiola. and arsenal started to throw away points around the end of april that is when manchester city gathered momentum and it culminated in the victory over arsenal at the eddie had greeting them for— one in that

6:39 pm
remembered they were to i can stare down at half—time. many of his supporters booed the team off at half—time as they walked on the tarmac and that really was unlike them. and he was very critical of them. and he was very critical of the fans and his players and he said, they were silent for 45 minutes in the buddha because we were losing and may be as the scene as our team they are so comfortable winning four primary leaks in five years. —— booed because we were losing. that reaction was devastating his city on the sean's first and second half beating them 4-2 first and second half beating them li—2 and was almost certainly pep guardiola's way of colonising those concerns at the club. —— galvanising. now we can see here thatis galvanising. now we can see here that is the open top bus parade with the players on top a little break up of the picture but is to be expected of the picture but is to be expected of the picture but is to be expected of the weather as bad as it is he could see them with the flags waving. you can almost see bananas on the top as well butjust stopped

tournament such as the champions league you have to be able to embrace the suffering and to build the mentalfortitude to embrace the suffering and to build the mental fortitude to win a tournament like this. because it is such a hard tournament to win. this is something i will not take for granted to win the champions league and i will never ever take it for granted at all. i and i will never ever take it for granted at all.— and i will never ever take it for granted at all. i will ask a cheeky ruestion granted at all. i will ask a cheeky question obviously _ granted at all. i will ask a cheeky question obviously match - granted at all. i will ask a cheeky question obviously match the - question obviously match the achievement of manchester united in 1999, their own treble feet two. does that make your achievement this year all the sweeter that you're able to match that of your arch local rivals?— able to match that of your arch local rivals? ~ . ., ., .,~ ., local rivals? michael to take away manchester _ local rivals? michael to take away manchester united _ local rivals? michael to take away i manchester united to's achievement 24 manchester united to's achievement 2a years ago because they have been exceptional black thank no one ever thought it would be possible and shows you how difficult it is and we are only the second team to do it if

you look at other teams around europe, barcelona won the treble twice. real madrid has not done that, byron munich have won the treble themselves so we still have some way to go to eclipse manchester united because i still have to acknowledge that manchester united are the bigger club in terms of overall time. but i think the last ten years if you look at the successes there's pretty much a no contest. i successes there's pretty much a no contest. , , , .,, ., ~ contest. i suppose people would like to find problems _ contest. i suppose people would like to find problems and _ contest. i suppose people would like to find problems and i _ contest. i suppose people would like to find problems and i would - contest. i suppose people would like to find problems and i would just - to find problems and i would just play devils advocate, on the one hand this should take a lot of pressure off of the city's shoulders the some of the champions league, has been the goal which is all we seem to bejust has been the goal which is all we seem to be just out of reach to and that defeat from chelsea a few years ago, not that the question is off do you think you will be easier to keep on winning in the future or is it hard to sustain that level of
