of channel, we are getting reports of what police have described as a serious incident in the city of nottingham. so far some pictures have come in from nottingham, hopefully we can show you now, they show that the centre of nottingham city centre has come to a standstill. you can see fire engines, police cordons and what is normally a very busy road with a bustling tram network too is now completely shuts down. we have had some information about the number of roads that have been closed in the city centre and as i mentioned, as we can of course see, the tram network has also been suspended. just to give more information, the coordinates on at the parliament street and it is wide, it covers the whole intersection at the front of
9:36 am
nottingham's royal concert hall, which is normally a busy part of nottingham city centre —— the collagen is on upper parliament street. it is unclear why the court and has been put up but all we know from officials as it is because of what police describe as a serious incident. we can now go to our reporter courtney bambridge who has been monitoring the latest on this story in nottingham. what more do we know? we have been showing pictures of the cordon, all the police have told us is this is a serious incident?— told us is this is a serious incident? ., ., ., , ., incident? no extra details about exactly what _ incident? no extra details about exactly what is _ incident? no extra details about exactly what is unfolding - incident? no extra details about exactly what is unfolding but. incident? no extra details about. exactly what is unfolding but let's look at the lay of the land. these are some of the pictures that have come out, this is near the city's major shopping centre, fire crews are part of the emergency services response. i want to show you where
9:37 am
this is so you can get an idea of how big the plea cordon is. this is another area under police cordon. if i take you to the map, we are looking at this area in the city centre, we have upper parliament street here, the major shopping centre here and the image i showed you earlier is heading down this way. this is one area but we will talk about this too in front of the theatre and that is all the way over here, so this whole area is a massive cordon but there are lots of road closures outside of the city too, so whatever has happened has also involved roads heading into the city and there is another road closure here, several roads have been closed but the police cordon is focused in the centre of town outside the theatre and near to the major shopping centre.— outside the theatre and near to the major shopping centre. thank you and kee us major shopping centre. thank you and keep us updated _ major shopping centre. thank you and keep us updated with _ major shopping centre. thank you and keep us updated with any _ major shopping centre. thank you and keep us updated with any more. - major shopping centre. thank you and keep us updated with any more. i - keep us updated with any more. i should stress there is a lot of
9:38 am
speculation on social media but we will not speculate on the reason for this until we have proper confirmation and we also had teams at the debrief —— at the bbc verify hub who are trying to work out what is and it's not fact. what we know so far, if you are justjoining is and it's not fact. what we know so far, if you arejustjoining us on bbc news, we have had reports of what police describe as a police investigation into a serious incident in the city of nottingham, we can show you those pictures. you can see police officers, roads are cordoned off and that is also where a busy tram network usually operates through nottingham city centre near the concert hall. a very busy area, normally, at this time of day. as we
9:39 am
can see, it has been closed off. we have just hard—wired from the reuters news agency here, uk police were called to nottingham's ilkeston road just after four i am where two people were found dead in the street, in the last few hours that has been confirmed by the police, so thatis has been confirmed by the police, so that is just what we know so far, police are investigating a serious incident in the city of nottingham and we now have a statement from the police, you can see that on the screen, a man has been arrested after three people were found dead in the city, he has been arrested on suspicion of murder. as we mentioned earlier, police were called to ilkeston road atjust after four a and where they found those victims
9:40 am
died, officers were called to another incident in milton street where the police statement says a van had attempted to run over three people. those three people are currently being treated in hospital. also we have been told another man has been found dead in another street, a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody. a police spokesman said this is a horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people. a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed, what the authorities are saying is there are also a number of people injured in another incident, they are currently being treated in
9:41 am
hospital. we can now bring in haley compton who is in nottingham. what more are you hearing on the ground, and thank you forjoining us is the story develops. i and thank you for “oining us is the story develops._ and thank you for “oining us is the story develops. i am stood outside an incredibly _ story develops. i am stood outside an incredibly important _ story develops. i am stood outside an incredibly important building i story develops. i am stood outside an incredibly important building in| an incredibly important building in nottingham, the theatre royal. it is very recognisable but you do not normally see a police cordon and 30 or a0 police officers this morning and each of the streets has this blue and white tape kind of flapping in the breeze. i can see at
9:42 am
least four police vehicles, there is an on —— unmarked police people are saying they are trying to get to work, school and college but they are reassured at the police presence, and we will bring you more as soon as we know any more information as to why this police cordon is still in place of people
9:43 am
have already been arrested. stat; have already been arrested. stay with us through _ have already been arrested. stay with us through this, thank you for the update, that was bbc radio nottingham's haley compton at the scene in nottingham. she is standing in front of an extensive police cordon in the centre of nottingham. you can see a fire truck, roads have been closed, transport has been suspended. just to remind you, we have been given a statement from the police which i will go through again if you arejustjoining us, a statement from the police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed in nottingham. it said police were called to ilkeston road such a structure for a where they found two people dead in the street. crucially, then they say they were called to another incident in milton street where a fan had attempted to run over three people. those three
9:44 am
people are currently being treated in hospital. so three people have died in one incident and a separate incident, it is unclear whether the two are directly connected but another incident occurred in milton street where a van attempted to run over three people, who are currently being treated in hospital. police also say the 31—year—old man who they have arrested has been arrested on suspicion of murder and currently remains in police custody. understood —— a statement from the chief constable described this as an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people, we believe these incidents are all linked, so having been unclear the statement states that these incidents are all linked and
9:45 am
there is a man in custody. this investigation is that the early stages. it says crucially a number of roads in the city will remain closed as this investigation progresses. just to recap, i have been reading this as we go along, police in nottingham say there have been three separate incidents, one man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed in the city and another incident which was linked to the first one was in milton street where a van attempted to run over three people, those three people are currently in hospital, we don't know which hospital in the city, and the third incident, just to be clear, with some magdala road where a man was also found dead —— was on
9:46 am
magdala road. three separate incidents, lots of police activity incidents, lots of police activity in nottingham. courtney bambridge is, do we know how close the streets were to each other? what is the proximity? == were to each other? what is the proximity?— were to each other? what is the roximi ? ., , a, , , proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us. it proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us- it is — proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us. it is quite _ proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us. it is quite a _ proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us. it is quite a large _ proximity? -- courtney bambridge is with us. it is quite a large area - with us. it is quite a large area and this is where the police coordinates. this is milton road, this is the city's major shopping complex and this extends to the city centre, there is more of the city down here and then the other incident, i believe this was the van aspect and then there was another incident here, this is magdala road where one man was also found dead. i have marked out for you, just to show you how far these two are away from each other, that is the road, i know it is hard to see that the city
9:47 am
centre is much further towards this area. it is quite a large area where there are several roads that have been closed, emergency services are responding, we have fire crews, this is the milton road incident that i marked on the map, just to remind you why that is. we are talking about this area here, this is outside the theatre where the police cordon extends and that is where the reporter earlier was coming from, so wide—ranging cordons, at least three incidents we know up so far and it man has been arrested. we will bring you more information about each of these individual incidents as soon as we can get the information. courtney bembridge in the newsroom, thank you. as courtney was looking up thank you. as courtney was looking up a map, it appears those three separate... separate incidents were
9:48 am
around the corner from each other, indistinct locations. it is still very unclear what connects the three locations and we are still waiting to hear more from the police. just to hear more from the police. just to remind viewers who mightjust be joining us, these pictures we are showing you are from the city of nottingham where police say they have arrested a 31—year—old man on suspicion of murder after three people were found dead. the bodies of two people were discovered in the street out aam, the body of another man was found dead nearby shortly afterwards and officers were also called to another incident in which a barn had attempted to run over another three people, those people are currently being treated in hospital. we have a short statement from chief constable kate meynell in
9:49 am
which she said this is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people. we believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody. this investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what happened. she asks the public to be patient while the inquiries continue but she said a number of roads in nottingham city will remain closed as the investigation progresses. it is unclear from that statement is whether the roads remain cordoned because the investigation is continuing, or whether there is any threat that persists, although police have cause have said they have arrested a man over these three separate incidents, a 31—year—old man who has been arrested on suspicion of murder and who remains
9:50 am
in police custody. the impact of that, as you can see from these pictures, is that transport has been suspended, nottingham not only has of course a bus network but a busy tram network and you can see and some of the pictures we showed you some of the pictures we showed you some of the tramlines, or all of those tram lines running in and out of that very busy city centre, this incident happened in the early hours of the morning, it is still early morning, people are trying to get to work, there is still a massive police cordoned and police say at the moment they are continuing their investigations. we havejust had the moment they are continuing their investigations. we have just had a bit of an update from one of our colleagues in bbc news and we are running a live page on this on the bbc website and one of our colleagues seems to have been at the scene at the time and he talked
9:51 am
about how the cordon on upper parliament street was large, covering a large area in front of the royal concert hall. lots of people were curious about the large police presence and he said he heard lara —— loud speakers at the tram stop informing passengers that no services were running due to that major police incident. my colleague at the scene also says that armed officers could also be seen in old market square. but crucially he says no signs of obvious alarm, which might suggest that the most serious aspect of this ongoing investigation has now passed. as you can see, there is still a police cordon, which is usually a very busy part of
9:52 am
nottingham city centre and my colleague at the scene also is saying that there are multiple fire engines at another cordon on nearby milton street which is the scene of the second incident police talk about, the incidents where police say a van has attempted to run over three people, and at the moment we know those three people remain in hospital, at this stage it is unclear what condition the three people being treated are in. this is of course a developing story and if you are just of course a developing story and if you arejustjoining us on bbc news, we are bringing you the latest on three separate incidents in nottingham city centre which have left three people dead, three others are currently in hospital, a man has
9:53 am
been arrested on suspicion of murder and police say in their statement they were called to ilkeston road in they were called to ilkeston road in the cityjust they were called to ilkeston road in the city just after they were called to ilkeston road in the cityjust after florian and that is where they found two people dead in the street. —— just after aam. they say officers were called to another incident in milton street where they say a fan had attempted to run over three people. those three people are currently in hospital but it is unclear at the moment what the condition is and we have been told by police of a third incident in magdala road where a man was found dead. two people dying in that first incident and another man found dead on that third incident and a second incident where the van
9:54 am
had attempted to run over three people, three people remain in hospital at the moment. chief constable kate meynell from nottingham police is asking the public to be patient while inquiries continue, we are bringing you live shots from the city centre area near nottingham's concert hall, there is a huge police activity that continues and kate meynell, the chief constable of nottingham police, describes this as an horrific and tragic incident and said we believe these three incidents are all linked. that is crucial. but as of now, they say the investigation is in its early stages. they have a team of detectives working to establish
9:55 am
exactly what happened. those roads remain closed. it is also impacting public transport in the area, buses and trams that would normally go through the busy city centre in nottingham, all transport in that area has currently been suspended. let's bring our reporter courtney bembridge back. you have been looking at where these three incidents have been taking place, police say they are all linked, i wonder if you could give us a better idea of the geography of where this happened? i idea of the geography of where this ha ened? ., idea of the geography of where this ha ened? . , idea of the geography of where this hauened? . , ., ,, , happened? i have been mapping these, this is ilkeston _ happened? i have been mapping these, this is ilkeston road _ happened? i have been mapping these, this is ilkeston road where _ happened? i have been mapping these, this is ilkeston road where the - this is ilkeston road where the incident started, we believe, at aam, and a man was found dead here. police were called in the early hours. we can go towards the city
9:56 am
centre now, this is milton street right in the city centre, this is the major shopping centre and worthy police cordon is currently set up. there was an attempt running total of three people, we believe, by a van in this area, and as you can see it is in the centre of town, the police cordon extends to hear, upper parliament street, this whole area is milton street in the middle, it is milton street in the middle, it is currently cordoned off and it is currently on the outside of town, it is the, this one here, this is magdala road, where another man was found dead, and if i take my pen off there is the road and that is how far it is from the city centre backed out here. very distinct and
9:57 am
separate incidents in terms of the geography, it appears, separate incidents in terms of the geography, itappears, but separate incidents in terms of the geography, it appears, but police suggest they are linked. we are getting images out of the area, this is the city centre, we have talked about the trams and the police cordon, this is outside the theatre in the centre of town and this is milton street where the van attempted to run down three people. they are, of course, in hospital. we are getting pictures and working as quickly as possible to try to verify each location. there was lots of information being put on social media and at the bbc we are working through that systematically to try to sift through exactly what happened and all of the materials. courtney bembridge, thank you for taking us through some of the geography of where that incident took place this morning. just to remind viewers perhaps justjoining remind viewers perhaps just joining us remind viewers perhaps justjoining us on coverage of this major incident in nottingham, we know a
9:58 am
man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed in nottingham this morning. police have told us there are three separate incidents they are investigating and they are all linked. let's take you through the three separate incidents as we know from the police, so the first one, officers say, is when they were called to ilkeston road, courtney had that on the map, just after aam, where two people were found dead in the street. then there was a second incident, officers were called to an incident, officers were called to an incident in milton street where they say a fan had attempted to run over three people. —— where they say a van hard. police have not given details on what time but second incident took place but we know the three people per van try to run over are currently being treated in
9:59 am
hospital, we don't know their condition and we don't know which hospital they are being treated in. police then tell us about a third incident, again we do not have the time on that but we know that in the third incident a man was found dead in magdala road. three separate incidents, a 31—year—old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and chief constable kate meynell said in a statement which was issued that this is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people. we believe these incidents, as i said earlier, are linked and, crucially, from what we are seeing on those live pictures we are seeing on those live pictures we are bringing you, it looks like their investigations are still centred by the concert hall in
10:00 am
nottingham, the royal concert hall. we can still see, as you can see, there is a large police cordon around a very busy central part of nottingham city centre, especially in the morning, lots of people going there, lots of buses and an extensive tram network and much of that has been suspended and we also have an update from chief inspector neil humphreys who was also from nottinghamshire police, who says officers are currently on the scene at multiple road closures due to an ongoing incident and that statement from police also says please avoid these areas as they are expected to remain closed for some time. we have just had a statement from labour leader sir keir starmer, who said he wants to send his thoughts to all those affected and to the
10:01 am
emergency services who are responding to this incident in nottingham. sir keir was speaking at a london tech week event. and as we have been saying already, 31—year—old has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the incident. we have been speaking to some of our colleagues who are on the ground from radio nottingham. earlier, we heard from gavin bevis, who was on the scene as things unfolded. he described the cordon has been huge around upper parliament street. you can see what is normally a busy part of nottingham city centre has been cordoned off, with transport services suspended. gavin bevis from radio nottingham are saying many
10:02 am
people were curious about the large police presence and officers were helping people find alternative routes. nottingham police are urging people to find alternative routes because their investigation is still continuing. it's not clear whether this is an ongoing incident. it would suggest, now that they have arrested 31—year—old man, that that incident has now concluded. but of course, the investigation is still active, as evidenced by the pictures we are bringing you on bbc news. having bevis from radio nottingham also said he could hear loud speakers at the tram stop informing passengers that no services were running due to a major police incident. another piece of information from our colleagues, gavin said that armed officers could be seen in old market square. you can maybe see some in the distance and you can see the police tape and
10:03 am
the police car. but crucially, gavin said there are no obvious signs of alarm at this point. he also described multiple fire engines being at another cordon on nearby milton street. milton street is where that second incident where a van tried to run over three people took place. you're watching bbc news and we are bringing you live pictures of an unfolding story in nottingham, where police say they have arrested a 31—year—old man on suspicion of murder. to recap what we know from the police so far, we know there were three separate incidents that took place this morning. the first one took place after four morning. the first one took place afterfour in the morning. the first one took place
10:04 am
after four in the morning morning. the first one took place afterfour in the morning on ilkeston road. police say they were called there just after four, where they found two people dead in the street. they were then called to a second incident. they said that took place on milton street, and in that incident, which we don't have a time for, a van attempted to run over three people. those three people are currently being treated in hospital but crucially, we are of course trying to get more information from the hospitals, but at the moment we don't know any more about the condition that those people are in. then there was a third incident that took place. that third incident took place in magdala road. police say they found a man dead in magdala
10:05 am
road. the other crucial piece of information is that chief constable kate meynell, who has been issuing a statement on behalf of the police in nottingham, said that they believe those three incidents are linked. at this stage, it is of course too early to speculate on the motive for these incidents. but we know from these incidents. but we know from the authorities that these three incidents are not separate, they are all connected. 0ne incidents are not separate, they are all connected. one thing we don't know from the statement we have had from the police is the timescale of when all of these incidents happened. here on bbc news, we are bringing you the latest as we have it. as is often the case with these stories, there is lots of speculation on social media, but
10:06 am
until we can verify that ourselves, we will bring you what we know from the authorities and others on the ground. the other thing is of course the knock—on effect this is having on the transport network in nottingham, which is a huge thoroughfare in the city centre. as you can see, it doesn't appear that the cordon has changed. it continues to be up in that busy shopping district near the old market square and the royal concert hall. the authorities were telling us earlier that they were asking the public to be patient while inquiries continue. they say that at this time, a number of roads will remain closed as the investigation continues. it is still an active crime seen. we have had a
10:07 am
statement from the labour leader sir keir starmer, he said he wanted to send his thoughts to all those affected and to the emergency services who have been responding to this incident. sir keir was speaking at the london tech week event. we can now speak to bbc radio nottingham's hayley compton. i am sure you are very busy this morning. what more can you tell us? i am actually in _ what more can you tell us? i am actually in a _ what more can you tell us? i am actually in a different _ what more can you tell us? i —n actually in a different location and when i spoke to you last time. i am just outside tk maxx at the bottom of the corner house in nottingham city centre. i don't know whether you can see this special police officer in the background who is wearing a maroonjumpsuit. that officer in the background who is wearing a maroon jumpsuit. that is a
10:08 am
national interagency police officer. the police cordon is still in place. this is normally an incredibly busy part of the city where all the buses come in. i have a statement from the police to say three people have been killed. there were those two people found on ilkeston road, which is just outside the city centre, this morning. a3i—year—old has been arrested and are eyewitness accounts coming in that a man was driving a van and deliberately run over people towards the city centre, just by the university. a lady was coming into work at 5.30 this morning and this man was being tailed in a van. this is as well as the other people that were being stabbed on ilkeston road this morning. he was coming in in a van and he mounted the pavement and ran over two pedestrians. he was arrested, but the police are still saying this is an active crime scene. that is why the police cordon
10:09 am
is still in place. there is still a huge police presence in the background. there is a fire engine behind me and lots of people wondering what is going on, trying to make their way into work, college or school this morning. it's a huge incident for the city, and there are several police cordons.— incident for the city, and there are several police cordons. hayley, you said ou several police cordons. hayley, you said you were _ several police cordons. hayley, you said you were speaking _ several police cordons. hayley, you said you were speaking to - several police cordons. hayley, you said you were speaking to some - said you were speaking to some eyewitnesses, or people who were on the scene in the possible aftermath. we know from the authorities that that first incident happened at four in the morning on ilkeston road, where they found two people dead in the street. you mention speaking to a woman who said something happened at five in the morning? tell us more about what she tells you, of course understanding that that is not something that has come from the police but something from someone on the ground. the

10:11 am
this point, but the police believe those two incidents, the stabbing and the van running people over, were connected. that is why this is still an active crime scene. just to reassure people and to show that the city is under control.— city is under control. hayley, you live in nottingham _ city is under control. hayley, you live in nottingham and _ city is under control. hayley, you live in nottingham and you - city is under control. hayley, you live in nottingham and you know| city is under control. hayley, you . live in nottingham and you know the place very well. i used to live in nottingham many years ago as well. could you tell our viewers the geography of the three places, ? geography of the three you could you tell our viewers the geography of the three you have got ilkeston road, magdala road and milton street. where are they and how close are they to each other? the city centre, all the roads leading to the city centre. ilkeston road, where the first incident was, leading to the city centre. i actually live at the end of ilkeston road, and that is a very busy road,
10:12 am
a major bus route into the centre. milton road is where the tram lines are. that is where the van incident took place. that is a street one up from ilkeston road as you are coming into the city centre. the geography is that they are quite close, but they are a fair distance if you are a pedestrian. if you are driving, not far at all but if you are walking into the city centre, it would take you at least ten minutes to walk between these two places. the city of nottingham is a fantastic city. everything feels like it is close together, easily reachable, and all of the transport links are very good within the city centre. that it is why it is such a big disruption and a big shock for people coming in this morning, because these are incredibly busy, well used streets that these incidents have happened on. shire incidents have happened on. are these areas _ incidents have happened on. are these areas where we know some parts
10:13 am
of nottingham have crime issues? are these areas where the police often respond to incidents? in these areas where the police often respond to incidents?— respond to incidents? in my exuerience _ respond to incidents? in my experience of _ respond to incidents? in my experience of being - respond to incidents? in my experience of being alive i respond to incidents? in my - experience of being alive reporter out in the morning, i wouldn't say so. you would see the odd police cordon in the city centre of a morning, but there are normally localised areas which have a reputation for crime, which i have been called out to lots of times. 0ne been called out to lots of times. one of these areas is next to the university, so there are lots of students. ilkeston road is incredibly busy and residential. there are lots of shops and takeaways. those are the areas of the city where these incidents have happened, so i wouldn't say they were notorious areas for crime. i5 were notorious areas for crime. is there anyone else you have spoken to aside from that one woman who can share more about what they saw? that
10:14 am
was the only — share more about what they saw? twat was the only witness. it happened so early in the morning before people were making their way to school, work or college. these things happened before it got so busy. it's a beautiful day. people would have been walking in or cycling on, but not at 5.30 in the morning when these incidents are said to have taken place. the police cordon was there from 5am. 0ne police officer i spoke to said he heard about what was going on and that there was a major incident. he was due to start his shift at nine, but he came in early to help. just to make sure there was reassurance that there was a big police presence.— a big police presence. when you talk about a big police _ a big police presence. when you talk about a big police presence, - a big police presence. when you talk about a big police presence, how- about a big police presence, how extensive is it? i about a big police presence, how extensive is it?— extensive is it? i have seen at least 40 to — extensive is it? i have seen at least 40 to 50 _ extensive is it? i have seen at least 40 to 50 police - extensive is it? i have seen at least 40 to 50 police officers l extensive is it? i have seen at. least 40 to 50 police officers this least a0 to 50 police officers this morning. and bearing in mind that i
10:15 am
have only been to two of the cordons in place, i haven't been to all the places where the incidents happened. i have only been into the city centre and i have seen at least 30 or a0 police officers, lots of police cars. and all of the police are talking to people, making sure they know where they are going. if they know where they are going. if they have questions, they have been saying there has been a major incident and that they will know more information soon. and the police have issued a statement and explained what happened this morning and that a man has been arrested. hayley compton, thank you so much forjoining us. that was hayley compton, my colleague at bbc radio nottingham. we will go back to hayley through the course of the day. to recap what happened if you are just day. to recap what happened if you arejustjoining our live day. to recap what happened if you are justjoining our live coverage, are justjoining our live coverage, a man has been arrested in the city of nottingham on suspicion of murder

gathering more as the day progresses to paint more of a picture of what happened. then there was a third incident in nottingham. a man was found dead in magdala road and police have confirmed that they believe those three incidents were all linked. a man remains in custody but at the moment, we have no clue what the motive was. monitoring these developments in the newsroom is my colleague courtney bembridge. you have got a map behind you. perhaps you could take us through where these three incidents took place? where these three incidents took lace? . * , where these three incidents took lace? ., * , ., , place? that's right, we are trying to iece place? that's right, we are trying to piece together _ place? that's right, we are trying to piece together the _ place? that's right, we are trying to piece together the geographyl place? that's right, we are trying. to piece together the geography of where these incidents took place and the time frame. you are also trying to pin that down with eyewitnesses. this is ilkeston road. this is the first incident where police said they were called at aam and found

morning. the first one took place on ilkeston road just after four in the morning, where police said they found two people dead in the street. they then say the second incident took place shortly afterwards, we don't know at what point in time stop officers were called to another incident in milton street, where a van had attempted to run over three people. those three people are currently in hospital. it is unclear what condition they are in. and the third incident was on magdala road, where officers said they found a man dead. we have no more details about the deceased, who they were or their agents. we will bring you all of that and we have it —— we don't know their ages. we have some reaction from the labour mp for nottingham north, alex norris. we can bring you that tweet.

earlier this morning, we also heard from labour leader sir keir starmer, who said he wanted to send his thoughts to all of those affected and to the emergency services who are responding to that incident in nottingham. sir keir was speaking at a london tech week event. as we have been saying, we are still getting details of what happened. as is always the case, there is a lot of speculation about motives and what happened on social media. we are working with our teams at bbc verify to bring you what we know in terms of that social media footage. but for now, we are mainly relying on what the police have told us. let's

10:27 am
we don't know which street she mentions in that clip. but clearly, a very distressing scene than that eyewitness lynn mentioned. we can bring you pictures from the scene in the centre of nottingham, some harrowing testimony. we heard one woman, lynn, an eyewitness, speaking to the bbc saying she saw a man and woman run over by a vehicle. she said they were running for cover and they went on the kerb and she saw them go in the air. she said that if herfriend had got there them go in the air. she said that if her friend had got there any sooner, she feels that her friend might have also been hit by that vehicle. as we were speaking to our colleagues from radio nottingham at the scene earlier, these three separate incidents took place in streets that are not that close to walk to each other, but in the car, they are not

10:29 am
it is 08000961011. the police are saying anyone who is concerned about a family member or a friend should also call that number to get information. of course, those of you who know nottingham well, that area that has been cordoned off as a very busy thoroughfare, especially in the mornings. it is normally packed with traffic and buses as well as trams, because nottingham has an extensive tram network. and from what we understand from transport officials and the police, a number of roads remain closed. we have also been hearing from nottingham expressed
10:30 am
transit, who operate nottingham's tram network, that all of its services have been suspended. as that changes to the course of the morning, we will let you know. but the key thing so far is that that cordon remains in place. investigations are continuing. 0ur report on the ground for bbc radio nottingham hayley compton talked about how she saw a huge police presence in the centre of nottingham. and my colleague navtej johal has spoken to one eyewitness, a woman called lynn. we will try and play you that again for those who didn't catch lynn speaking. it was quite a graphic account of what she says she saw. she described seeing a van go towards a man and a woman and she

cordoned, you can see police tape, fire engines and a large police presence. that is following three separate but linked incidents that happened in the city centre which began in the early hours of this morning. i willjust take you through those three incidents, the first was when police were called to ilkeston road atjust after thorium, that they found two people dead in the street. they were then called to another incident in milton street where police say a van attempted to run over three people. at the moment, those people are in hospital, we are unclear what condition they are in. then there was a third incident, police say, where a man was found dead in magdala road. police say they have arrested a 31—year—old on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody. my colleague courtney bembridge is in the newsroom and she
