police say there were three separate incidents that happened this morning. this man that you can see, there, is likely connected to the second incident where officers say they were called to milton street where a van had attempted to run over three people. those three people are currently in hospital. at this stage, it is unclear what condition they are in. this isjust coming to us from nottingham. it is a still of the white van that police say attempted to run over three people this morning the other two incidents of course, that
11:48 am
happened... two people were found dead on ilkeston road afterfour in the morning. we had an eyewitness account talking about witnessing that stabbing. also, another incident on magdala road where a man was found. police were asking the public to be patient while inquiries continue. at this time, they say that a number of... as they continue their interviews. we have this report. i am their interviews. we have this report. iam in their interviews. we have this report. i am in an incredibly iconic area of the city. behind me is the theatre royal. the pillows, people will recognise, if they have ever come to the theatre here. lots of people do come to the theatre here in nottingham. it is a centre of the country. a very strange situation here this morning where the streets have been really busy with people shopping, making their way into
11:49 am
college, work, there are police cordons across the city. this is just one location with blue and white tape in front of me. there is a stopped tram. it is completely empty. all of the trams in the city have been stopped because of this major incident. when i was speaking to some of the police who have arrived here this morning, they said that they have been here since five o'clock. we now know that the police were called out 4am to an incident where two people were found dead. there is another person who has also been found dead, as well. and then, a separate incident where a van was seen driving into pedestrians. police say they have arrested a 31—year—old man, but there is still a huge police presence in the city, in fact, behind a huge police presence in the city, infact, behind me, iam a huge police presence in the city, in fact, behind me, i am sure you can see, there are a couple of police cars. they were blocking off the roads this morning. people all around the city are trying to make
11:50 am
sense of it all, it is a really strange thing to wake up to, a beautiful sunny day. people coming into the city are trying to make their way through the city centre and suffering this. people are trying to find out what has happened, and why it has happened to a city where they laugh. there was a witness who spoke to one of our colleagues who said he did not see or hear anything that was not surprised that that sort of thing happened around here. were you surprised? what sort of area is this? is it an area where there are a lot of crimes reported? in this? is it an area where there are a lot of crimes reported?- a lot of crimes reported? in my experience. — a lot of crimes reported? in my experience, of _ a lot of crimes reported? in my experience, of reporting - a lot of crimes reported? in my experience, of reporting live i a lot of crimes reported? in my i experience, of reporting live from the city, you might see the odd police cordon in the morning. but, not like this. there are several locations within the city centre and outside the city centre as well. this is extremely busy part of the
11:51 am
city. you can hear the tram notification saying that the trams have been halted into the city centre. i am surprised because of the level of the police presence here. the amount of areas that have been cordoned off, and because of the amount of worry that i've been speaking to people about. they are reassured by the police presence, but they are obviously troubled by the reports they are hearing about what has happened in the early hours of the morning. man what has happened in the early hours of the morning-— of the morning. won a vegan telling ou? the of the morning. won a vegan telling you? they have _ of the morning. won a vegan telling you? they have been _ of the morning. won a vegan telling you? they have been saying - of the morning. won a vegan telling you? they have been saying that. of the morning. won a vegan telling i you? they have been saying that they have had to take _ you? they have been saying that they have had to take different _ you? they have been saying that they have had to take different routes - have had to take different routes into work, they had to walk... there are occasional people who say that this isn't a surprise, that nottingham is a great city. there are crimes that you get in major cities, as it is, but nothing like this. the police say it is a major
11:52 am
incident. just to prove that people really care about the city, one of the police officers was just talking to a member of the public over there, and his shift did not start until later this morning, but he had about what was happening and just came in to help out with the effort, to reassure the public, to show them they have everything under control. give us a sense of the geography of where these three incidents took place. we know from the police that these three incidents were all linked. how far are you from them? and how close are they from each other? ~ . , and how close are they from each other? . ,, ,, ., other? what is surprising about the cordons is that _ other? what is surprising about the cordons is that there _ other? what is surprising about the cordons is that there is _ other? what is surprising about the cordons is that there is a _ other? what is surprising about the cordons is that there is a chord - other? what is surprising about the cordons is that there is a chord and | cordons is that there is a chord and by the theatre royal, accord and in front of me, a two minute walk, in front of me, a two minute walk, in front of me, a two minute walk, in front of the university. there is another cordon in front of a big
11:53 am
cinema and shopping complex called the corner house by the victoria centre. these are all in a few walking distances is. the ilkeston road is only walkable if you have half an hour on your hands, but it is a major route into the city, i get on the number to bus down ilkeston road into the city centre. lots of people will be waking up this morning wondering what on earth is happening, and why they can knock to get into the city centre, and finding out that this has happened in the city centre that they are trying to get into, where they are trying to get into, where they are trying to get into, where they are trying to make theirjourneys and day possible. we trying to make their “ourneys and day much day possible. we had a 'oint statement i day possible. we had a 'oint statement from i day possible. we had a 'oint statement from the h day possible. we had a joint statement from the mps - day possible. we had a joint statement from the mps forj statement from the mps for nottingham talking about the conversation that they are going to have to have with people in nottingham because of the shock that is being felt after what has happened this morning. what are you feeling, and what have people around you feeling about what has happened today? how shocked are people? i
11:54 am
think people are incredibly shocked about what has happened this morning. you had the eyewitness, she said she needed a cup of tea with some sugar in it because of what she has seen and what she wished she hadn't seen. you don't expect it to happen in a city that you love. i work here, my daughter goes to nursery here. this is a place i really love and feel safe in. people are telling me the same thing. it is such a contrast. it is a glorious day, people are wanting to spend time heading into the city centre, and they are faced with this. they are just trying to go about their day. are just trying to go about their da . ., , are just trying to go about their da . . , ., , ., , day. that is the latest from my colleague _ day. that is the latest from my colleague from _ day. that is the latest from my colleague from bbc— day. that is the latest from my colleague from bbc radio - day. that is the latest from my - colleague from bbc radio nottingham who has been sending us updates from the scene. now, so far, all we have had from the police, while they of course continue their investigations, is a statement which theyissued investigations, is a statement which they issued earlier this morning. we

that he is shocked and saddened by these horrific deaths. he says that his thoughts and prayers are with the people who knew and loved the people who died, and those who have been injured, and the communities where they lived. he said, hours is an overwhelmingly peaceful and tolerant city where people get along with each other. it is encumbrance among such dreadful violence has happened here. the leader of nottingham city council went on to say that he was grateful to the police for swiftly making an arrest, and to all of the emergency services for responding to this tragic situation and keeping people safe. we have more images that have been coming in. a reminder of those images that have been coming in here at bbc news... we have stills which we will bring you shortly off the scene and magdala road, where you can see forensic officers. that is
