12:21 pm
to build a picture of what happened and also gather evidence in the event that this case comes to trial. that is really important. the second aspect, which we are not seeing but i'm sure has been going on behind—the—scenes for five or six hours, is to find out about this individual who is in custody, the 31—year—old suspect he has been arrested on suspicion of murder. what the police know about him. who is he? where is he from? i'm sure that they have gone to his home address, raided that address, looking for computers and laptops, mobile phones, searched through his accounts to find out if he is linked to anyone else, whether he has been discussing this with anyone else, whether there is any motivation behind what he has done. that will behind what he has done. that will be the absolute priority. i would have thought i like police would be some way advanced in those investigations, although getting
12:22 pm
access to digital devices is not necessarily straightforward. the other thing is they would have asked him immediately whether this is part of any wider campaign or wider plots, if other people were involved. they would have already asked those questions because this is clearly potentially crucial to ascertaining whether there is a wider threats. those are the two strands of the investigation. we are not hearing a lot about the investigation, the suspect is in custody, but when police have an update they will provide it. the main areas _ update they will provide it. the main areas in _ update they will provide it. the main areas in nottingham city centre are obviously still crime scenes. the police cordons remain there. that is several hours since the incidents were reported to have taken place. 4am in the morning, now we are getting close to one ipm. is
12:23 pm
that typical? hf we are getting close to one 1pm. is that typical?— that typical? if you think of any crime or somebody _ that typical? if you think of any crime or somebody has - that typical? if you think of any crime or somebody has been i that typical? if you think of any i crime or somebody has been found dead, someone suspected of murder, if you think of any crime scene, it can take hours for police and forensic science experts to go through that scene looking for all the evidence. you can't leave something to chance, you can't miss out something. you just do not know how this investigation is going to unfold, what the suspect might say. imagine the suspect says that it was an accident is that he went into the people on the road, imagined he said that, you would have to make sure that, you would have to make sure that you have, that you can potentially conjure that line of defence, that you have looked at tire mulch on the road, cctv, you have evidence from the road, all
12:24 pm
sorts of markings, everything like that, it is something that has to take some time. clearly because of this unusual situation what it means for nottingham unfortunately is large parts of the city are cordoned off. i'm sure police will be mindful off. i'm sure police will be mindful of trying to get the traffic moving again as quickly as possible. in terms of the other strand of the investigation, i'm sure that nottinghamshire police have been in touch with their counterparts in the counterterrorism units. there is a regional unit, also at the national headquarters based in scotland yard to find out if there is any possible terror link, because on the face of it, this looks like it has the hallmarks of a terrorism attack, but we shouldn'tjump to conclusions because it might not be terrorism related at all. at the moment is being handled by nottinghamshire police. if it is declared to be a terrorism incident and that

terrorist related in the uk. you think back to a couple of years ago, when we have the shooting spree in click pillow meth, in devon, you hear about other tax —— in plymouth in devon. obviously, we have had terrorist incidents. i think the last one was the fire bomb attack in dover. the individual responsible died. that was driven by an extremist ideology according to scotland yard. it took some days before that was declared terrorist related. sadly, it doesn't surprise me stop nottingham is a very big city. it is a city with a very big student population, there may well have been students out, at four o'clock coming back from clubs, bars, as other young people would have been. there would have been people going to work early early shifts. one of the things police will be wanting to investigate is
