12:36 pm
morning. thank this is a live police investigation and that a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. the spokesman added that he is limited in what he can say, but the prime minister and the home secretary have already told the media that they are closely monitoring the latest developments. we can show you some of the latest images that have been coming into the newsroom here from nottingham. this is the white van that we understand was at the scene of where the suspect was arrested. you can see the same van from another angle. remember, police said there were three separate incidents and that one of them involved a van which
12:37 pm
drove in two or who were walking on the road and the three people who were run over are still in hospital, so you can surmise that this is likely the ban that hits those three pedestrians, who remain in hospital. at this stage, information coming in from the authorities is fairly limited beyond what we heard first thing in the morning. it is unclear what condition the three people who were injured are in. we know from the morning of that they are in hospital. we know from the authorities that three people died. two were found dead on ilkeston road. in that first incident, which police say to capture —— took place just after 4am. another man was found dead on magdala road. at this stage the authorities have not revealed any more details about the identity of the victims or the
12:38 pm
injured and we don't have any more about the man who was arrested on suspicion of murder. we know he is 31 and remains in custody. these are the latest aerial pictures that give you a sense when you look at them of just how much of the centre of nottingham remains an active crime scene. as you can see, there is very little traffic moving in that central area where the theatre royal is, where the market square is. a very busy area. there is a big tram network in nottingham. we can see some people going about their business. it may be now that some parts of the court and have now opened up, because i can see in those pictures people walking near the victoria centre, i think it is. you can see other parts of the city
12:39 pm
are still effectively in lockdown. the police told us this morning that they wanted the public to bear with them and to basically let them continue their investigations. the police statement said the public should be patient while inquiries continue and they said that this morning a number of routes in the city remain closed as the investigation progresses. you can see right now there are some people walking around. those are the tram there at that run through the city centre. and as far as we knew the tram network is not yet back up and running, certainly not in that part of the city. the authorities have said that the tram network has been suspended. many routes in the centre are closed and buses and other public transport suspended, that is because at the moment what the police in nottingham are dealing

with her three active crime scenes. we may be able to bring you stills as well of the scene at magdala road, where we saw forensic teams. they were combing the area in the magdala road. these are the latest aerial shots where you can see police activity. it looks like in some areas routes are starting to open up after that incident that took place at 4am in the morning. we have been hearing from our colleagues from bbc radio nottingham. we have been sent more information about where these incidents took place. bill information about where these incidents took place.— information about where these incidents took place. all the routes leadin: to incidents took place. all the routes leading to the _ incidents took place. all the routes leading to the city _ incidents took place. all the routes leading to the city centre, - incidents took place. all the routes leading to the city centre, the - leading to the city centre, the ilkeston road leads into the city centre. i live at the end of ilkeston road. that is a major budget coming into the city, it is a very busy route. milton street is the route that has the tramlines on.
12:41 pm
that is where the van incident took place. that is the street one up from ilkeston road is you're coming into the city centre. that geography is that they are quite close, but a fair distance if you're pedestrian. if you are driving not far at all, but if you are walking into the city centre it will take you a few minutes, at least ten minutes to walk between these two places. the city of nottingham is a fantastic city, everything feels like it is close together, easily reachable and the transport links are very good within the city centre. that is why it is such a big disruption and shop for people coming in this morning because these are incredibly busy, well used streets. louie

12:43 pm
the other emergency services. in their statement they said it was too early to comment on casualties or on the exact nature of the incident, but they said they are working closely with the police and have well rehearsed plans in place to deal with this incident. my colleagues at the bbc news website have been sharing updates on the bbc news life page. you can get that online and on the app. there have been some updates that they have shared from eyewitnesses. a resident on ilkeston road, which is where the first incident took place, spoke about having the police bang on her door, or his daughter, five in the morning, police asking him for ccd -- cctv morning, police asking him for ccd —— cctv footage. we can bring you these pictures. these are believed to be from ilkeston road. a local

resident has captured footage of the police arriving at ilkeston road just after 4am. we have since seen images of police and forensic officers in the same areas. those images there of the scene in the early hours of this morning. and the other box you can see the scene today. it is worth pointing out to viewers that this is a busy part of nottingham city centre. it is near the main market square, a busy thoroughfare, and at this time of day people would be going out for lunch, there is a tram network that runs through the centre of the city, trams are currently still suspended as far as we know. we can see them restarting just yet. the bus network has also been suspended, many routes have been closed and the police have said that people need to be patient while inquiries continue. at this

time the number of routes in the city will remain closed as the investigation continues. it is a massive crime scene that we are looking at. we know that a 31—year—old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. we know that three people died this morning. there were three separate incidents. three people are in hospital. the authorities say they were run over by a van and the images we were sharing earlier may well be the white van that we should be there. let's remind ourselves of the timeline of events in nottingham today. police said they were called today. police said they were called to ilkeston road just after 4am. two people were found dead in the street. this was on ilkeston road, as we were talking about earlier. another man was then found dead in magdala road road. officers were
12:46 pm
also called to another incident on milton street. that is where i van attempted to run over three people. all those people are currently being treated in hospital. at this stage we are not getting a huge amount of fresh information from the authorities about who the deceased are. wejust authorities about who the deceased are. we just know they were three people. one witness spoke to the bbc said he saw a man and a woman, young man and woman, being stabbed on ilkeston road. his account described hearing bloodcurdling screams, but we haven't had a from the police on whether it was a man and a woman there. we also know that somebody died in magdala road. three people were injured after a van tried to run them over. we now have another

12:48 pm
made by someone driving a van to run three people over. we understand that those three people are injured and are still being issued in hospital. another man was found dead at magdala road, north of where i am standing. you have also been hearing all morning that a 31—year—old has been arrested on suspicion of murder. if you look on the bbc live page as you can see images of a white van which looks like it has been seized by police and we have been seized by police and we have been told that is where the arrest took place. we don't have much more information than that at the moment. it is a very weird atmosphere here in the centre of nottingham. it is much quieter. we are right were the main shops, restaurants and cafe is. it would be very busy. it is nowhere nearas it would be very busy. it is nowhere near as busy as it would be normally. the mood is quite strange.

they can to build a picture of what has happened and to gather evidence in the event that this case comes to trial. that is really important. the second aspect, which i am sure has been going on behind—the—scenes for five or six hours is to find out about this individual who is in custody, the 31—year—old suspect he has been arrested on suspicion of murder. watch a police know about him? you see, where is he from? i'm sure they have gone to his home address and rated that address looking for computers, laptops, mobile phones, search through his accounts to find out if he is linked to anyone else, whether he has been discussing this with anyone else, whether there is any motivation behind what he has done. that would behind what he has done. that would be the absolute priority. i would have thought i'm not police would be some way advanced in those investigations, although getting
12:53 pm
access to digital devices is not always straightforward. the other thing is that i'm sure they would have asked him immediately whether this is part of any wider campaign or wider plots or if other people are involved. they would have already asked those questions focus this is clearly potentially crucial to ascertaining whether there is a wider threat. those are the sort of two strands of the investigation. we are not hearing a lot about the investigation because it is still going on at the moment. when police have an update i'm sure they will provide it. have an update i'm sure they will rovide it. , have an update i'm sure they will provide it— have an update i'm sure they will rovide it. , ,, ., . provide it. danny shaw there. we have 'ust provide it. danny shaw there. we have just had _ provide it. danny shaw there. we have just had an _ provide it. danny shaw there. we have just had an update - provide it. danny shaw there. we have just had an update from - provide it. danny shaw there. we have just had an update from the| have just had an update from the director of the victoria centre, which is on luton streets. milton street is where that fan attempted to run three people over. i'm not sure where our aerial pictures are,

but in the city centre is the victoria centre, are huge, very busy shopping centre and the director has said that he is deeply saddened to learn and use of the tragic events that occurred in nottingham this morning. alongside the rest of the community, the thoughts of the whole team at the victoria centre court to the family and friends and everyone affected by these awful events. is that his gratitude goes to the emergency service teams who are continuing to respond to the events. some of the aerial pictures that we have been shown neither shows that there are areas of the city centre in nottingham are starting to open up. there are still a huge police presence there, lots of police tape. this is very much an active crime scene in the middle of an english city centre. three events that police told us happened this morning, let's remind you of them.
12:55 pm
the first one happens atjust after 4am on ilkeston road where authorities say two people were found dead in the street. then another incidents, they were called to milton street where they say i van attempted to run over three people. they are currently being treated in hospital. we are unclear what condition they are in at the moment. a man was also found dead in the magdala road. police have arrested a 31—year—old man on suspicion of murder. he remains in police custody and the investigation continues. in the last hour we heard from the prime minister's official spokesperson. the prime minister was informed about these incidents this morning. the prime minister and the home secretary are closely
