earlier, and when she spoke to us, she talked about how shocking this entire episode is for notjust the university, but the city of nottingham a city that of course has crime hotspots, but nothing like what happened yesterday, it was something that they were never expecting. so, the vigil will begin with words from shearer west, and then, to my understanding, we will also hearfrom some then, to my understanding, we will also hear from some faith leaders as well. from what we have been told, the parents of the two students who were killed in yesterday's attacks are also expected to be attending this vigil, although they are unlikely to speak. and we are also told that it is very unlikely that any students also will be speaking. the vice chancellor said that the university is offering all the support it can to the students here,

friends, who was studying history here. both of them had only started university last year, they were just at the end of their first year at university. and were just completing the end of their first year exams. and the university's graduate ball which was due to take place yesterday was cancelled given what had happened earlier in the day. now, what is normally a time of celebration, students completing another year of university, has now turned into a time of deep horror and shock. there are around 80,000 students in the city of nottingham, notjust students in the city of nottingham, not just at the university of nottingham, but there is also nottingham, but there is also nottingham trent university. faith leaders, the police, education

which attracts around 80,000 students and it is seen as a very welcoming city for young people, and there is some sense of fear after what happened, and the police, faith leaders and university officials are just trying to do whatever they can to reassure people. peoplejust keep arriving at this vigil as you can see, the numbers who are here now, well over 1000 people gathering for this vigil. and as i was saying before, this was meant to be a fun part of the university year.

as people here say goodbye to two of their own, 19—year—old barnaby webber, known as barney to his friends, and 19—year—old grace o'malley kumar. grace was studying medicine here and barnaby was a history student and they were both in their first year at university. all that hope and excitement and promise, it is alljust gone, lives in their prime, taken in an horrific attack yesterday.
