bring you up—to—date with some breaking news from here in the uk. an inquest into the death of a woman whose disappearance prompted a massive search back injanuary and generated huge interest up and down the country and around the world has just delivered a verdict. i am talking about nicola bullen. her death has been recorded as accidental. this has come to us from the senior coronerfor accidental. this has come to us from the senior coroner for lancashire. backin the senior coroner for lancashire. back injanuary she disappeared and was out walking her dog. she had just finished a work conference call. you can see pictures from the search along the river and a statement from the police force who classified her as a high risk person and what happened then was widespread speculation. all of the
2:50 pm
media right across the country, there was a lot of speculation about her whereabouts and a huge amount of concern. her body was spotted by dog walkers a few miles down the river several weeks later. so just to confirm what we have just heard from the coroner, that there was no indication of any desire she had to take your own life, she fell into the river and died almost immediately. the coroner noted the improved health and well—being of nicola, the fact she was making plans and there was normal behaviour that was being exhibited as well. he also said it would be unusual for her to consider suicide and risk losing her dog. so there was no natural disease caused the death and the conclusion is that she died in accidental death. the inquest into
2:51 pm
her death opened yesterday and the coroner offered his condolences yesterday to the family. just to remind you what the outcome of the inquest and the aims of the inquest work was to determine who has died, where they've died, when and how and by what means. the coroner also saying the inquest was to stop the speculation that we have seen but would not be able to explore all of the possibilities. so it was an intense couple of days in the coroner court where 14 witnesses were called including experts in drowning, nine members of the public were present and also members of nicola's family as well. and huge amount of journalists at nicola's family as well. and huge amount ofjournalists at the coroner court as well. a huge amount of interest in this story. we did hear

from her partner during the inquest that she had been looking forward to the future before her disappearance. paul ansell said they had been concerns about her drinking but she was back to herself by january. let's talk to danny savage who is there for us. take us through what you heard in court. in there for us. take us through what you heard in court.— there for us. take us through what you heard in court. in the last hour we've basically _ you heard in court. in the last hour we've basically had _ you heard in court. in the last hour we've basically had the _ you heard in court. in the last hourj we've basically had the conclusions of what the coroner said after listening to all the evidence. yesterday we had evidence from expert witnesses looking at the death of nicola bullying and we heard from families and relatives as well. earliertoday heard from families and relatives as well. earlier today we had from her partner talking about everything seeming normal and that is the picture herfamily seeming normal and that is the picture her family painted seeming normal and that is the picture herfamily painted of life with nicola in the days running up to her disappearance. that everything was absolutely normal. yes she had had a blip with a health

over christmas but she had come off her head charity therapy and was drinking too much but in the weeks leading up to her disappearance she had started taking her medication again and had stopped drinking and there was absolutely no indication that she was planning to take her own life and that was the clear message that came from her family today. the coroner summing up this afternoon and giving his conclusions, did consider suicide as a possible conclusion but he said there was the absence of the evidence of nicola wanting to take her own life. she left her dog, she would never have done that are carried out such an act in such a public place. it was left with him to draw the conclusion of accidental death. that was on 9:22am when
2:54 pm
nicola accidentally fell into the river and died almost immediately. we had expert evidence over the last couple of days about cold water immersion shock and how quickly you can become unconscious once going into the water. it would have been almost immediate and there was medical evidence of the effect that cold water can have on your body when you go into it. it was something like 3.6 celsius the water temperature at the time. that would have caused a huge adrenaline surge and almost an instant heart attack. she would have died almost straightaway. the reason we are all here in mass numbers as they were so much interest in this case because there was huge speculation between there was huge speculation between the time she vanished in the three weeks later when her body was found about what had happened to her. her friends stood by the roadside with missing posters, wanting any information about what could have happened to her. with hindsight we

know that she simply drowned in the river at that time and shortly we will be hearing some thoughts from a representative of her family about how difficult that time was when people speculated about what happens to her. we people speculated about what happens to her. ~ ., ., to her. we will return to the crown court when — to her. we will return to the crown court when that _ to her. we will return to the crown court when that happens _ to her. we will return to the crown court when that happens but - to her. we will return to the crown court when that happens but to . court when that happens but to remind you, a coroner has concluded that nicola billy fell into a river and died almost immediately. hello. we had one or two lovely sunrise pictures sent to us earlier this morning this one from the isle of wight. the early rising sun picking out layers of cloud to the west of the uk and that cloud is associated with an area of low pressure that's near iceland and we have a warm front bringing damp weather to the northern half of the uk behind the one front there is going to be turning quite humid as we go through the rest of the day
2:56 pm
and overnight. through the afternoon, the cloud will bring us in patches of rain, mostly light. but we will see some heavy bursts of rain across scotland for a time. it should stay dry and bright across the south. temperatures widely into the south. temperatures widely into the low 20s. 0vernight tonight, is they who made a works its way in we will have increasingly thick cloud across western areas of the uk with extensive drizzle developing overnight. the other thing that cloudy weather will do is it will stop temperatures falling fast of 16 or 17 degrees overnight. tomorrow morning, jump—start with extensive drizzle. wales and western areas staying dry throughout the whole day. and as a band of rain will move across northern ireland getting into scotland as we go through the day.
2:57 pm
one too heavy bursts on that with 0ne too heavy bursts on that with the front. temperatures still for the front. temperatures still for the most part in the 20s and could pick at 25 degrees if we see brighter spells across east anglia. the best of any sunshine will be for western scotland and northern ireland late in the day. by thursday we start to see some fresh air arrived from the north—west but a band of rain to start the day across east anglia and south—east england could be particularly slow in moving and it might last all day. if that happens the ring could turn out to be heavy. in parts of essex they have only seen seven millimetres of rain so far this month so i am sure gardeners and farmers would welcome that rain. temperatures in the high teens low 20s with a fresh feel. it is of the weekend and low—pressure state of the north—west and we are going to see widespread showers on friday and showers or long spells of rain through the weekend across the north west.
