so we're starting with cricket and day two of the second ashes test where england's batters have been criticised for giving away unnecessary wickets after eventually bowling australia all out for 416. before lunch they'd made up good ground before a mini collapse left england 138 runs behind with four wickets gone. our correspondentjoe wilson reports from lord's. first things first, let's deal with australia's first innings. the fact that steve smith was gutted to get out for 110, the fact that england were relieved to get him out for 110 tells you everything about smith's stature. he was the third wicket of the innings forjosh tongue — impressive ashes debut. he's england's quickest bowler here and looks the most impressive bowler, too. 416, then england set off chasing that. ben duckett scored quickly,

as did zak crawley. foraustralia, nathan lyon off the pitch with what looks like a serious calf injury. australia had to try something so they bowled short. they tempted england to hit the ball towards fielders. that's what duckett did. it's what pope did. it's what root did. some might say it's naive. england would say it's brave. they've scored quickly again, and they have given themselves a chance to reclaim the initiative on the third day here at lord's. well, it was a case of so near, yet so far for the england opener. ben duckett, he was two runs away from a first ashes century after a superb knock until his luck ran out. but despite missing out on getting his name on the lord's honours board, duckett says he's happy with how he played. at the start the day i'd have been over the moon if i was offered 98. but falling so close to scoring three figures here at lord's... yeah, i'm obviously gutted about that but i'm really happy with how i played throughout the innings. i thought it was certainly my best innings in an england shirt.
12:47 am
so yeah, you know, i was gutted for half an hour after. but yeah, i'm happy with how i played. football and manchester united have agreed a deal to buy england international mason mount from chelsea. talks to try to resolve the impasse over a fee for the midfielder have been successful with an initial £55 million agreed that could rise to £60 million. mount will sign a five year deal at old trafford. and the ex—chelsea midfielder n'golo kante has bought a football club. the france international will become the chairman of the belgian third tier side royal excelsior everton on the same day that he joins the saudi arabia pro league club, al ittihad. now the greatest cycle race in the world gets underway this weekend. the 110th tour de france will start in bilbao, which of course is in spain. that starts on saturday, but the traditional grand d part always begins on the thursday night. this man is one of two overwhelming favourites
12:48 am
for the yellowjersey he won in 2020 and 2021. he'll be challenged by last year's winner, jonas, and it'll be a farewell tour for an icon of both the race and british cycling mark cavendish, who could become the outright record holder for the most stage wins as his final ride there in the tour de france. this race gives me the most incredible of emotions. and unfortunately, you don't really you can't really analyse them and appreciate them till afterwards. it's the same every year. and i know this is my last one, but it's still the same. i have a job to do and... and kind of devoids you of those little bits of sentiment at the time where you can definitely appreciate them later. some golf now and the pre—tournament favourite justin rose leads going into round two of the british masters. rose is a shot clear of the field on seven under par

after carding eight birdies and a bogey in his opening round at the belfry. he's just ahead of his ryder cup team—mate, jamie donaldson, who is hoping to finish high enough to earn a place at next month's open championship. and now britain's savannah marshall is bidding to become a two—weight world champion when she takes on america's athlete on saturday night for the undisputed super middleweight crown. and it will be a feisty occasion in their pre—fight press conference, if that's anything to go by marshall, who lost her last fight in october, was called complacent by cruise discern while she labelled her us opponents lazy. here she is with our reporter cal sajad. i'm just sick of it. i'm sick of these gobby americans. that's what it is. i'm laid back, not let things get to me. who does she think she is going on like about things? give it to me. like i said, they're the difference is she's lazy.
12:50 am
she doesn't go out and look for opportunities. there was a lot that was said. what did she say that riled you up the most? she's been saying it for weeks, to be fair. but i just thought we you come over here and say, this is me. you don't know me. you don't know anything about me. i work hard. i work extremely hard. sport, hard, female sport. so you don't know what i've been through. is this a must win fight for you? and can you even conceive a loss here and what that might do to your career? if i lose a here, look, what, what business have i got in this sport? if i lose again, like i said, the pool is very shallow. there's nowhere left for me to go then. now, with only a few days to go until the start of wimbledon, a former top player has announced she's coming out of retirement. caroline wozniacki will make her return to tennis, but not in time for the grass court season. the dane took a step back from the sport in 2020 after a long career in which she won the australian open and was twice world number one. she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. but wozniacki, who's now 32 and has two young children, wants to get back to playing and is eyeing up this

year's us open title, where she could draw some inspiration from this lady. charlotte dujardin was one of the golden girls of london 2012, becoming double olympic champion and the world's number one dressage rider. since then, she's continued to break records and dominate the sport. and after a short time off to have her first baby, she's remarkably already back to her best. i spent the day with her earlier this month. and it all starts here. good morning. dressage star, charlotte dujardin isn't the first new sporting mum to get straight back to competing, but she took it to a whole new level at her first show, beating the bestjust nine weeks after having a c—section. great britain, charlotte dujardin! i was really worried about my feeling whether i was going to still have all that feeling. i was just absolute relieved. i was like, i canjust remember i said to myself, i can still do it.
12:52 am
she certainly can still do it. and now charlotte, along with fiance dean and baby isabella, are back at another top show hoping for more success. this is a really important show for me to qualify for the europeans. normally, i would have a really good sleep pattern. you know, i'd have a really good routine as to what i'm doing. and that's all changed. are you tired? oh, dear. dean's taking time off work to help me so i can still pursue my career. i think it's made her be so content. did you put off having babies because you're the best dressage rider in the world? i neverfelt like the time was right. and for me, i knew i needed to feel right. i think being a top athlete, you have to be selfish. you know, i knew after tokyo and stuff that i was, i felt ready. mentally, physically i felt ready. now, when any working woman has a baby and it always makes things a little bit more complicated in terms of career success. but of course, in the case of equestrianism, there are already two in the relationship the rider and the horse. and in the case of
12:53 am
charlotte dujardin, you can multiply that by ten. so combine all of that with the long hours, the highs and the lows, the physicality, these guys have to be super fit. take all that into account and have a young baby that she's only just stopped breastfeeding and she's still at the top of her game. that is what makes charlotte dujardin so remarkable. charlotte has all the things around her that helps her win, as well as having a huge talent, as well as having an amazing feel with most of the horses she rides, which is unique because she can ride any horse, literally, charlotte. so that gift that she has combined with being able to concentrate on a performance is really what keeps her up in gold medal zones all the time. did you watch mommy? so what now, charlotte, you've done your test. is it is itjust a long, nervous? wait? i've got other horses to ride in, compete today. i've got people to coach, so it's not a quiet day. just keep watching and see who.
12:54 am
who can beat my score. well, no one did beat her score. she won by more than 6%, a huge margin even for charlotte. i think it's just everyone accepts that second - to charlotte isjust kind of a win _ that's how we all take it. so but you know, what we have to do is we have to get closer. i to come back now and be in and do all these shows. it's so it's fantastic. it's a great feeling. now it's happened only 2a times in major league baseball history. and if that actually sounds quite a lot, then consider there have been more than 230,000 games played over the years. so domingo hernan genuinely achieved the rarest of sports feats when he threw a perfect game for the new york yankees, the dominican pitcher recorded all 27 outs in their 11 nothing win over the oakland athletics without giving up a single hit or walk. it's the first perfect game in more than a decade and only the fourth in yankees history. herman dedicated his achievement to his uncle, who passed away this week. well, that's it for me and the sports day team. as always, you can get

all the latest sports news from the bbc sport app orfrom our website. but for me and the team here, it's goodbye. hello there. at the moment, the weather seems to be changing quite a lot, really from one day to the next. on thursday, we were in cooler, fresher air with some sunshine, a few showers for northern parts of the uk. but on friday the weather's going to look and feel quite different. there'll be a lot of cloud heading our way. it's going to be bringing a bit of rain and drizzle and it will feel more humid as well. and we've seen that cloud beginning to push in on a westerly breeze coming in from the atlantic into western parts of the uk and the cloud will continue to thicken, particularly on those weather fronts which will bring the rain in from the west. but we could start the day with some early sunshine across eastern scotland
12:56 am
and eastern england. don't think it's going to last too long. the cloud continues to stream in on that westerly breeze and it's thick enough to give it a little light rain or drizzle here and there. perhaps things turning a bit wetter through the day in northern parts of northern ireland and into scotland as well. and those temperatures are going to struggle with that cloudy, muggy air, 18 degrees widely, perhaps a little bit higher than that in east anglia and the south—east, but nothing special at all. we're going to find those weather fronts taking the thicker cloud and the rain and drizzle away in time for the weekend. and then around that area of low pressure, we've got the winds coming in from the west or north—west and it could be quite blustery through the weekend. strongest winds across northern areas. this is where we're going to find the showers. it'll be sunnier and a bit warmer further south where the winds won't be quite as strong. for many southern parts of the uk may well be a dry day on saturday, with sunny spells further north for northern ireland. also across northern england, southern scotland, more frequent showers in the north and west of the country where it will be particularly windy and temperatures maybe only reaching 16 degrees in
12:57 am
glasgow, warmer in the sunshine across the east midlands, east anglia and the south—east — 2a degrees here, not too bad at all. second half of the weekend, not too many changes. still some stronger winds in the north. we've got showers, perhaps longer spells of rain in scotland, a few showers for northern ireland and northern england. but further south, better chance of staying dry, again, and those temperatures getting into the low 20s. so we've got a real difference north south over the weekend. heading into next week, it's not a classic summer weather pattern because low pressure is going to be dominating that will bring some showers or longer spells of rain, particularly in the west.
