11:54 am
is known as the quadrant. generally, the road is very tight and so it is quite difficult to go at great speed you would have to stop to let people past. so, i know the police investor getting as you reported. they are, as i understand, looking at all the circumstances. it would be unwise to speculate, other than it is good news that this tragic incident is not a terror incident. last news that this tragic incident is not a terror incident.— news that this tragic incident is not a terror incident. last day of term at a _ not a terror incident. last day of term at a school— not a terror incident. last day of term at a school attended - not a terror incident. last day of term at a school attended more | not a terror incident. last day of. term at a school attended more by younger children who would attend that school, as you said. slightly older girls would attend at another location. mr hammond, we've seen quite a large, widespread response from the authorities. fire engines, police, ambulances on the scene. can you talk a little bit more about the size of that response and how quickly they've been communicating
11:55 am
with you in terms of your queries? i think that, first of all, the size of the response tells you how series and incident this is. there are a number of casualties and injuries as we know. i understand, and i don't know the numbers, but i understand a number of those are being treated as critical and therefore its not surprising and it is a credit to the emergency services how quickly they responded. i think we are, obviously, close to saint georges which has the air ambulance as well which has the air ambulance as well which was able to be scrambled from there, i guess. i have also, as i say, spoken to the police and to the cheek executive of the local council and i'm sure there will be a meeting of all the local authorities this afternoon. at the moment, the police, including the borough commander and the borough area units are on site, as i understand. the

job of a member of parliament, i think, is to be there to give information to people like you but to make sure that all the emergency services have all the support they need to deal with this incident. thank you very much, stephen hammond, mpforwimbledon. thank thank you very much, stephen hammond, mp for wimbledon. thank you for going over additional details with us. as mr hammond mentioned, it was the last day of term at this private prep school for girls. he said it was mostly younger students, between four and eight, who attended that specific location. of course, we don't know anything about the identity of those who have suffered casualties. however, we do know that this is not being treated as a terror —related incident. that is key. let's go back now to the newsroom floor again and to nicky schiller who can review for us what we know and what we don't know about this developing story. i
11:57 am
we know and what we don't know about this developing story.— this developing story. i think a coule of this developing story. i think a couple of interesting - this developing story. i think a couple of interesting points i this developing story. i think a i couple of interesting points that stephen hammond, mp, made. one that he understood that a number were being treated as critical. that, a little bit more information on the status of the casualties. he did say he only understood it, but he is saying that he understood that a number were critical. up until now, we've had no detail on the seriousness of the injuries involved. that's an interesting point that the mp made, saying, that he understood a number had been treated as critical. he also said, very close to the hospital, so they were able to be taken there. another interesting piece of information that he brought up and you mentioned as well, him saying that the prep school involved has a number of buildings around wimbledon. this particular building is the one that the children, the girls aged between four and eight, attend. not the older children, because this school caters for people aged between four
11:58 am
and 11, but this particular building is catering for those aged between four and eight. that, another piece of information that came from the mp. also, him mentioning that it is in quite a secluded spot in wimbledon and that he said vehicles can't get up to high speeds around their in his understanding and, of course he knows the area very well indeed, that another piece of information that he brought out. and, of course as he mentioned, the last day of term. you can imagine how parents and relatives of children who are going there are feeling at the moment. as i say, there is a big emergency services operation ongoing at the moment. we have the police there. we have seen pictures of a large number of police with a police cordon. also we have the emergency services in terms of the emergency services in terms of the paramedics and the air ambulance the moment. the mp telling us it is quite a seclude and >t that it the moment. the mp telling us it is quite a seclude and the at it the moment. the mp telling us it is quite a seclude and the airt there. also, as the mp and we have the moment. the mp telling us it is been mentioning, the fire brigade
11:59 am
have dispatched two units, two fire engines and some other units. as the mp was saying, that's probably to do with if there has been structural damage to the school building. they would be able to shore up and make quite a seclude and the air ambulance sure any of the building was safe if it had been badly damaged by this crash. if you are joining it had been badly damaged by this crash. if you arejoining us, this is what we know at the moment in terms of this incident. several people have been injured after a car crashed into a primary school in the wimbledon area of south—west london. it is a private prep school called the study and it caters for girls between four and 11. but, as the local mp has told us here on bbc news, the building involved is the one that children aged between four and eight attend. now, it sits on wimbledon common. it is about one mile away from where the wimbledon tennis championships are going on at the moment. the mp telling us it is
