glimpse. it has been frenetic. but it is a lovely day. journalists taking selfies in front of cars, it is not everyday you get in front of a presidential car. i guess quite iconic as well, the beast must be the most famous vehicle in geopolitics. the us presidential visit is exciting. us politics is interesting to uk viewers. as we said earlier, they have spent a lot of time together, rishi sunak and joe biden. we will come back to you. we are following live here at downing street, but there is breaking news from another part of the uk. a tweet from another part of the uk. a tweet from gloucestershire constabulary says that emergency services are at
11:03 am
the scene of an incident at tewkesbury school, this tweet goes on to say that the school is in a lockdown while police are at the scene and that more information will be released in due course. just to break away briefly from our coverage here in downing street, emergency services in the uk say they are at the scene of an incident at tewkesbury school, they say the school is in lockdown while police are at the scene the. a hugely concerning story, particularly for parents of children at that school. we will bring you more on that story as it comes in, and we will give you developments throughout. let is go back to the story that we are here for, that visit between prime minister rishi sunak, who is hosting here in a downing street presidentjoe biden. we may be able
11:04 am
to bring you some pictures that we showed you earlier of the two having a cup of tea in the garden behind downing street. there are the pictures again. that looks pleasant. the pair are going to be holding talks for about one hour, before then president biden continues on then president biden continues on the next stop of his very brief itinerary here in the united kingdom. he will be heading to windsor castle where he will be meeting king charles. on the agenda with prime minister sue nack we understand that the ongoing war in ukraine will dominate those talks. —— prime minister rishi sunak. also issues like artificial intelligence, climate change, perhaps even the issue of trade between the two countries. let as bring adam back in. looking at those pictures of the pair in the garden there. trade was
11:05 am
something at one point that was touted as a big post—brexit prize for the uk, having a trade deal with united states. we have not seen a trade deal yet, how further down the line are we on that? eight us line are we on that? eight us trade deal for a line are we on that? eight us trade dealfor a lot line are we on that? eight us trade deal for a lot of brexit backing mps was the ultimate prize. brexit was about an independent and free trading policy. the reason we have not seen progress, a number of reasons, really. firstly, the tension over northern ireland and uk government's approach to brexit has been a barrier, if there was going to be progress of a trade has been a barrier to that. secondly, the us, a uk trade deal is not a massive priority for them, it's never has been, since the uk are split on the agenda. thirdly, being frank, there is not a great deal to do when it comes to uk, us trade. there are not
11:06 am
huge barriers between the two had it comes to trade, it is already a huge trading partner of the uk. for those reasons, whilst we might hear some optimistic and warm words about the desire to do something in the future, we should not expect anything substantial, any breakthroughs on that. i don't think we should expect that, certainly for the rest of biden*s administration, possibly beyond. the? the rest of biden's administration, possibly beyond-— the rest of biden's administration, possibly beyond. they have met at silicon valley _ possibly beyond. they have met at silicon valley in _ possibly beyond. they have met at silicon valley in prior— possibly beyond. they have met at silicon valley in prior meetings, i silicon valley in prior meetings, they have met all round the world, they have met all round the world, the two leaders. artificial intelligence seems to be a very key area of partnership between the two countries. talk of having a special summit later in the year to discuss this and partnership between the two nations on that. agaii this and partnership between the two nations on that.— nations on that. al has emerged ra - idl in nations on that. al has emerged rapidly in the — nations on that. al has emerged rapidly in the last _ nations on that. al has emerged rapidly in the last few _ nations on that. al has emerged rapidly in the last few months i nations on that. al has emerged rapidly in the last few months is j nations on that. al has emerged i rapidly in the last few months is a huge talking points, certainly in westminster i speak to mps who are very excited or exercise... i don't think many understand it... it has
11:07 am
emerged as a massive issue, something it's going to challenge notjust something it's going to challenge not just the something it's going to challenge notjust the uk government, but the white house and governments the world. rishi sunak is interested in this sort of stuff. it's from a tech background. it believes the uk can be a world leader on this. the uk is going to be holding a summit, i believe in the autumn. prime minister rishi sunak lisa ai, while it might seem unnerving and alien, he believes it could be huge opportunities that could transform if not massively improve the way we govern perhaps the nhs, perhaps ai could help modernise that system, make it more efficient. rishi sunak, when you speak to people close to him, people familiarwith when you speak to people close to him, people familiar with his thinking, the prime minister really believes that al can bring enormous good to how we govern this country. we are going to break away again to go back to that developing story in
11:08 am
tewkesbury. we have got some more updates on that from the press association news agency here in the uk. iwill association news agency here in the uk. i will read it to you. it says that a secondary school has been locked down due to an ongoing incident. gloucestershire police spokeswoman has told the news agency that emergency services are at the scene of an incident at tewkesbury school on ash church roads. the statement goes on to say that the school is currently in lockdown while police are at the scene and that more information will be released in due course. it goes on to say that teachers at a nearby primary school posted a message on facebook saying, that its school had also been locked down on the advice of police, and it urged parents to stay away from the school. actually now two schools have been locked down. the first one, police say, is
11:09 am
due to an ongoing incident. and police are at the scene there. and now another school has also confirmed that it has been locked down. just continuing this statement as it comes into us, it says an incident has occurred this morning at tewkesbury academy. we have been advised by tewkesbury police to put in place a lockdown. this is the other school saying this. we have a police presence at the school and we are being fully supported and we would like to reassure all families that children at tobruk primary and little oaks are safe and well. rear students for parents who have children at that school. we must ask though that families do not come to the school during this time as it would compromise the police operation currently under way, and also compromise the safety of the children. it says during a situation all school staff will be supporting children and liaising with the police. they would ask that you do
11:10 am
not communicate with the school office. thanks people their time. just to update, we are showing you the tweet on the screen. gloucestershire police confirming that emergency services are at a school, a secondary school, we understand. they are saying they are at tewkesbury school on a strict road in gloucestershire, in the south—west of the uk, attending to what they described as an incident which has led to that school to go into lockdown. police are currently at the scene. we will of course bring you more on that developing story here in the uk as it comes into us. let us get back to the other main story of today, us presidentjoe biden, currently here at downing street, holding talks with british prime minister rishi sunak. we showed you pictures earlier of the pair in the garden, they were having
11:11 am
a cup of tea together, quintessentially british thing to do. the weather is nice. they are having those talks outside. it is significant to say that the talks are fairly compact, they will last under one hour. president biden is in the uk on the way to lithuania where he will be attending a nato summit. his day is quite busy for a bat released here, downing street, he will head to windsor castle where he will head to windsor castle where he will head to windsor castle where he will be meeting king charles stop thatis he will be meeting king charles stop that is the first time he has met him as king, because president biden did not attend the coronation in may. i am joined did not attend the coronation in may. iam joined now did not attend the coronation in may. i am joined now by political editor from the politics may. i am joined now by political editorfrom the politics home website. let as talk about the meeting in windsor today. two heads of state meeting. royalfamilies here do not get too political, but they are going to be discussing climate change. yes, this is the first time the president has seen the king since his coronation. joe biden did not
11:12 am
attend the coronation. that is momentous in itself. the us president meeting the new monarch for the first time. king charles is very interested in climate change. and while the royal family generally does not involve itself in politics, it is an issue he cares about. i think we should expect the pair to discuss that issue in the meeting they have. and i would not be surprised if when we get some language out of that meeting, the issue of climate change and how the countries can work together will feature prominently. thank you for taking us through this and standing around all these cars that keep moving around downing street. and we will be come back to you later. thank you very much for the moment. joining me now is the times political reporter geri scott. we have just seen the two leaders
11:13 am
discussing a range of issues in the garden behind me and downing street. what do you think rishi sunak wants to get out of these talks? what rishi sunak wants is to make sure that that special relationship that the uk and the us has always had is maintained. it is under strain, maybe not as special as it used to be, what he will be looking to do is to make sure that he can have that bilateral conversation with president biden, also get across the unhappiness about the cluster bombs in ukraine. there are a lot of things on the agenda today. it is important to recognisejoe biden is not really here to see rishi sunak, really he is here to see the king, that is the main thrust of his trip. he has just
11:14 am
thrust of his trip. he hasjust added thrust of his trip. he has just added this on to the itinerary? he hasjust added this on to the itinera ? , , ., , itinerary? yes. he is on his way to the nato summit. _ itinerary? yes. he is on his way to the nato summit. he _ itinerary? yes. he is on his way to the nato summit. he is— the nato summit. he is in the neighbourhood, i suppose you could say. this is the sixth meeting the joe biden and rishi sunak have had. the relationship is perhaps not as strong as between layer and bush. the doors are opening. there is a us secretary of state antony blinken just emerging. it is significant that you have a secretary of state at downing street today as well? yes it is at downing street today as well? yes it is significant. all at downing street today as well? 123 it is significant. all of at downing street today as well? i2; it is significant. all of these visits are significant because
11:15 am
trying to find its place in a post—brexit world all of these readerships are important. both sides will say this is one of the most important relationships. but the mute music at downing street todayis the mute music at downing street today is that the us is treating the uk like any other european country. so it is significant that the secretary of state this year as well, he will be having meetings with his counterparts, i'm sure. we will bring you the latest when president biden emerges from the doorstep behind me. we understand that he is still in talks with prime minister rishi sunak. an update on that braking is coming to us from the south—west of england. we were telling you earlier about a lockdown in a secondary
11:16 am
school in gloucestershire. we have an update from gloucestershire constabulary who say that an adult has been taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound following an incident at tewkesbury school. they say they were called at around ten past nine in the morning today with a report that a pupil had stabbed the teacher. the statement goes on to say that a teenage boy has been arrested in connection with the incident. the door is open at downing street. we will just see whether the the door is open at downing street. we willjust see whether the leaders will emerge any time soon. we just saw us secretary of state antony blinken leave number ten, and some other members of the entourage also have just left, other members of the entourage also havejust left, and other members of the entourage also have just left, and they are all piling in the two these cars. the next destination is windsor, windsor castle, to meet king charles. a
11:17 am
royal correspondent is at windsor. a few people here on the long walk. this is the main centre of tourist windsor. there you go. presidentjoe biden has finished that meeting, very brief meeting, less than an hour by my calculations, and he hasjust sat down in the armoured presidential beast. we can bring back a royal correspondent. he is on his way to you now. yes, not immediately, but he will be here early on this afternoon. a
11:18 am
little bit of a pause forjoe biden now before he comes here to windsor castle later on. what you'll get here is a ceremonial part of his day. the pageantry. more tea with the king. he is due to arrive your early this afternoon. you will get the full ceremonial welcome in the quadrangle at windsor castle. he will be greeted by the king, he will have the royal salute, they will inspect a guard of honour and watch a military march past before having some private time. he has met prime minister rishi sunak. he will have a private meeting with the king. there will be tea in the castle between the president and the king, before going on to look at some items from the royal collection at windsor that have an american link, and then meeting some of those participants in a climate conference that is going on here at windsor this morning. this is a ceremonial visit, you say, but there is a lot of talk about how
11:19 am
effectively a political issue or collapse of those conversations, talking about climate change here. yes, that is right. the environment is the theme of the meetings and the talking that will go on here at windsor. there has been a meeting this morning at the castle between philanthropic and financial leaders about financing climate solutions for developing countries and emerging democracies. both are present in the king will be briefed on that by those taking part. that is the political side of the meeting here. but it is an issue that both men have spent much of their own careers, both as a member of the royal family and a politician, working on. and something where they are very aligned, common ground for both. we could just see the cars now, the entourage all leaving downing street. and the next portion of president by then's visit to the uk
11:20 am
has concluded to stop it felt quite brief. some lines of coming from those talks. daniela, stay with us. we are hearing that president biden has hailed the relationship between the uk and the us is rock solid, has praised the closest of ties between the two nations, he said he could not be meeting with a closer friend and a greater ally, and prime minister rishi sunak said the pair would continue the talks would how the us and the uk can strengthen cooperation and joint economic security to the benefit of our citizens, head of a nato gathering that they will both be attending in lithuania. prime minister said that the us in the uk stand as two of the firmest allies in that alliance. whenever these visits happen there is always very warm exchange of words, of course. tell as a little
11:21 am
bit more about the relationship between king charles and president biden. president biden did not actually attend his coronation, did he? no, he did not. just talking with that exchange of words, i was here when joe that exchange of words, i was here whenjoe biden came to meet the queen in 2021. what we heard after that particular meeting, he told everybody that the queen invited him of his mother. it will be interesting what the say is what is meeting with the king today. but, he did not attend the king's coronation backin did not attend the king's coronation back in may, his wife was here. there was talk at the time as to whether that was a snap or not. i really do not think it was. historically american presidents have not attended coronation here. and both gill and joe biden were here last septemberfor and both gill and joe biden were here last september for the queen's funeral. and we know that the us
11:22 am
president did meet the king then. and prior to that, in 2021 he met the king twice, during the g seven summit and at cop26 in glasgow, the climate summit. they know each other well in recent times. even as prince of wales joe well in recent times. even as prince of walesjoe biden will have met him diplomatically over the years. there is a natural french of understanding between them. perhaps it was a little bit of that this afternoon. —— naturalfriendship little bit of that this afternoon. —— natural friendship and understanding. nice weather in windsor. we will be hearing more from you throughout the afternoon. let as go back to the other developing story, away from downing street, still here in the uk, reports of an incident at a school in tewkesbury, in the south—west of the uk, emergency services have confirmed that they are at the scene
11:23 am
of an incident at the tewkesbury school, and they say that the school is on lockdown. it is a secondary school. police say emergency services are at the scene of this incident at the school, and they will be releasing more information in due course. a nearby primary school has also said that it has been locked down on the advice of police. that primary school urged parents not to come to the school because they were in lockdown, but they would like to reassure all families that the children there are safe and well. we did get a bit more of an update as well on the tewkesbury school, the secondary school. a second tweet came from police who say that an adult has been taken to hospital with a
11:24 am
suspected stab wound following that incident. this statement says that officials say they were called at around ten past nine today, monday, after a report that a pupil had stabbed a teacher. this report from gloucestershire constabulary goes on to say that a teenage boy has now been arrested in connection with the incident. that is latest that we have on that, a secondary school in gloucestershire, in tewkesbury, has been locked down, and that follows reports that the pupil had stabbed a teacher. one teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident. it is not clear what condition the teacher is in at the moment. well of course be bringing you more on that. we are in downing street, let us recap other big story of the morning, presidentjoe biden has just left here. was meeting with
11:25 am
rishi sunak in the garden at downing street. joe biden healing the partnership between the us and the uk as a rock solid. and of course this comes before president biden and rishi sunak travel to vilnius for a nato summit there. rishi sunak said after these talks in downing street that the us and uk can strengthen our cooperation and economic security to the benefit of our citizens. he said ahead of the nato gathering that us and uk stand as two of the firmest allies in that alliance.
