time for a look at the weather. he is tomasz schafernaker. do you have better news for us? it's better this saturday than last, last summer was awful —— last saturday was awful. this coming weekend and this afternoon and over the next couple of days it's going to be a mixture of sunshine and showers. when we look at satellite images we see this low pressure spinning up in the atlantic and this weekend will be very close to this low, coming close to the uk and establishing itself over us and the following weekend looks fairly similar with low pressure and i almost want to say the first half of august is actually looking pretty settled at least at this stage, so it's more of the same. these low—pressures keep arriving on our

shores and delivering unsettled weather. this evening and overnight the showers are pushed along by a breeze of micro the atlantic. it's not going to be cold. temperatures early in the morning will be around 13 degrees in glasgow, newcastle and further south in london, 15 degrees or so. this weekend, not a wash—out but sunshine and showers, breezy, and it will feel rather cool particularly around some western coasts because with the low here and the winds circling around below the western coasts will feel a little on the cool side so a low pressure over us, this is more typical of september. the showers will be developing inland as well. i think heaviest across parts of scotland, northern ireland, the north of england. few wish i was further south and i think predominantly dry weather with sunny spells. how does that bode for the oval? it's scheduled through monday and i think most days a risk of at least one or two fleeting showers with modest temperatures of around 20 degrees or so. here's sunday, it's a straight

jet pushing right at us and pointing right at us so these weather systems sweeping through. the best of the weather on sunday, i suspect the north of england. scotland will be a cracking day in aberdeen, i9 north of england. scotland will be a cracking day in aberdeen, 19 degrees but across wales, mid—wales, it looks pretty wet. on the rainfall, looks pretty wet. on the rainfall, look atjuly. this is the amount of rain we've had so far until the 27th. parts of western britain, i79% 27th. parts of western britain, 179% of the rainfall stop there is more to come. it's been distinctly wet this month but actually it's only been about half a degree below the average in terms of the the temperatures will remain about average or may be slightly below for the next few days, into next week, but changeable and, yeah, you don't need to worry about that. and that's bbc news at one.

i hope you have a good weekend. it's time to take a look at the news wherever you are. lets join our colleagues across the nations and regions for your news. have a good weekend, goodbye. hello and welcome to sportsday. a stunner from laurenjames secures england's win over denmark. now it's all eyes on china against haiti to see if the european champions will qualify with a game to spare. it's been slow going at the ashes. one wicket for england as australia dig in at the oval. and the netball world cup is under way in south africa with favourites australia are off to a winning start. can england, scotland and wales follow that?
1:34 pm
welcome along. let's start with an important win for england over denmark this morning at the women's world cup, a victory that puts them on the brink of qualifyng for the knock—out stages and a better performance than in their opening game against haiti. laurenjames scored the only goal of the game in just the sixth minute. but there are concerns as keira walsh suffered what looked like a serious injury. let's cross live to jane dougall, covering the tournament for us in sydney. jane, relief for the win and a good performance but also worry over that injury to keira walsh. yes. performance but also worry over that injury to keira walsh.— in'ury to keira walsh. yes, there is a injury to keira walsh. yes, there is a lot to unpack. _ injury to keira walsh. yes, there is a lot to unpack. overall, _ injury to keira walsh. yes, there is a lot to unpack. overall, good - a lot to unpack. overall, good performance from england, far organised and a huge improvement on their opening match against a far

weaker side in haiti that they were against in denmark. what stood out with the two changes the manager had made. first of all, laurenjames, her strike wasjust made. first of all, laurenjames, her strike was just incredible. only six minutes in that curling strike into the goal and she didn'tjust stand out for that one moment, she looked dangerous for the whole of the match, coming forward, being a nuisance to the denmark defence, but the other added thing was that the other change to have been made was rachel daly who was brought on as a defender and she actually assisted in that goal for laurenjames, however as you mentioned, england may have some long—term problems. it was a bittersweet match for them because towards the end of the first half, keira walsh, their creative midfielder, she had such a great season for barcelona, helping them to win the champions league and to win the league as well, it looked like quite an innocuous turn and she seemed to get her studs caught in

the turf and she came down and then immediately was mouthing, i have done my knee in. the stretcher came on, she was taken off, should it be quite upset but we do not know the extent of injury but there have been some who have been speculating that it could be the dreaded acl and england have already had their fair share of acl injuries before this tournament even began with their captain leah williamson and beth made as well suffering from acl is. as we said we don't know the extent of her injury and there is likely to be a scan tomorrow. after she went off, denmark did seem to go up a gear and england were lucky not to concede an equaliser, particularly in the last few minutes of the game because the danish players header hit the post and england are let off and the england manager did not look happy at that point. we will hear from managing the moment we first let's hear from the goal—scorer, lauren james let's hear from the goal—scorer, laurenjames who spoke to the bbc after the match. it

not to score against so it is still up not to score against so it is still up in the air and as we say, england will still have to china, but at the moment, england are top of the group, so they are likely to qualify, it'sjust group, so they are likely to qualify, it's just when they qualify, it's just when they qualify, which is a case in point. great stuff, jane, great to chat to you. in the early game, argentina produced a superb comeback to draw 2—2 with south africa in dunedin south africa were on course for their first—ever win in tournament history when thembi kgatlana put them 2—0 up in the second half, but argentina pulled one back courtesy of a sensational strike from sophia braun before romina nunez headed home an equaliser, both of those goals coming in a five—minute span and ensuring both teams got their first point of the tournament so far. holders italy and turkey are submitting a bid to jointly host the men's euros in 2032. it could clear the way for the uk and ireland to host the 2028 event,

if turkey withdraw their solo bid for the same tournament. the last euros in 2021 took place across 11 countries with wembley the stadium for the final between england and winners italy. it's in germany next year and the uk and ireland are hoping to get the next one and apart from turkey are the only other bid. australia are still 168 runs behind england when they resume after lunch at the oval shortly. it's the fifth and final test, with england hoping to level the series at 2—2. but it's been slow going. joe wilson is there for us. it has been very different this morning, joe. d0 it has been very different this morning. joe-— it has been very different this mornina, joe. ~ ~ , ., ., morning, joe. do you think australia are battin: morning, joe. do you think australia are batting for— morning, joe. do you think australia are batting for a _ morning, joe. do you think australia are batting for a draw? _ morning, joe. do you think australia are batting for a draw? surely - morning, joe. do you think australia are batting for a draw? surely not. l are batting for a draw? surely not. there are various factors that australia's banners are naturally more cautious due to england and the overhead conditions above the oval have been a bit gloomy and of

at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. let's get more now on our top story, the high court ruling that an expansion of london's ultra low emissions zone, or ulez, can go ahead. the scheme is aimed at reducing air pollution in the capital. the zone currently covers the central area, shown in pink, on this map. drivers of the most polluting vehicles in the zone, are charged £12.50 a day. london's mayor, sadiq khan, wants to extend the boundary of the zone to cover the whole of greater london. five conservative—led councils tried to have the expansion of the scheme halted, arguing that mr khan had exceeded his powers, but they have now failed. the extension is due to go ahead on august 29th. ulez has been at the centre of a major political row, and is thought to have contributed to labour's failure in last week's uxbridge by—election. here's the mayor, sadiq khan, giving

his reaction, a little earlier. well, this landmarkjudgment today is good news for london, because it means we can make progress from the end of next month. the decision to expand ulez was a difficult one, not one i took lightly, but it is essential, because in our great city, over 4,000 people die prematurely linked with air quality. there are children who have stunted lungs forever and adults with a host of health issues, cancer, dementia, heart disease, and i have been listening through this process, and i will carry on listening, from next week we will be expanding further the support we give to londoners, although it is the case, the high court confirmed, that nine out of ten cars in london are compliant, they will not pay a penny more but they will see the benefits of cleaner air, almost1 million families will be eligible for financial support, every single small business will be
