access to their systems in august 2021. it wasn't discovered until october 2022, that is a long gap. that implies this was not a criminal attack, button espionage attack to try to find weakness in the electoral system. likely these are very skilled, very patient hackers. then they announced today this is what they have been dealing with and they have clearly secured their systems now and say their e—mail systems now and say their e—mail systems were hacked and accessed by the hackers and there was x access to the electoral roll, so every aduu to the electoral roll, so every adult between 2014 and 2022, so tens of millions of people. there is no real risk of anyone's data being in the hands of criminals or spies or foreign adversaries because that information is largely available already. the only thing slightly different here is that if you registered on the electoral register but you kept your name and address

private and not able to be sold on to the phone book and other companies for example, that data has been accessed by hackers. if you registered to vote anonymously, which some people do to protect their privacy and their location, for example if they are a victim of domestic abuse are something like that, that data has not been accessed by the hackers. this happened _ accessed by the hackers. this happened quite _ accessed by the hackers. this happened quite a _ accessed by the hackers. this happened quite a while ago, august 2021, it wasn't discovered until october last year. how many cyber attacks could be going on that nobody has any idea about? aha, attacks could be going on that nobody has any idea about? a lots. this has been _ nobody has any idea about? a lots. this has been talked _ nobody has any idea about? a lots. this has been talked about - nobody has any idea about? a lots. this has been talked about as i nobody has any idea about? a lots. this has been talked about as a i this has been talked about as a problem with any kind of electoral system that is online and digital. the electoral commission have said it is one thing that says they should keep to pen and paper because the potential for damage at the electoral system was more digitised is very large. in this case the

electoral commission said nothing had been affected. it is interesting this lag between august 2021 and october 2022, what is likely is that they gained access in august 2021 and have since been looking for weaknesses, researching and looking through those millions of e—mails sent by the electoral commission office to potentially try to find weaknesses in the electoral system. it is a serious incident. we often talk about the sky falling in cyber security when it is not. the electoral commission has already said they are very sorry that this was allowed to happen. 2023 marks the festival's 76th year and, over that time, the event's grown from a handful of performances to a sprawling extravanganza.
