it or not, weekend in a row, believe it or not, where we had low pressure in charge of our weather, and this one will bring some showers and some longer spells of rain through tonight push into northern ireland and the west of scotland. few showers elsewhere, clear spells towards the east, not quite as warm or muggy as last night, but still holding up at between 12—15. for tomorrow, a pretty soggy start for some parts of northern ireland, the western side of scotland and parts of northern england. this band of rain pushing eastwards. elsewhere, sunny spells, but showers, some of which could be heavy and thundery. the sort of day where your weather app may struggle a bit to predict exactly where the shallows will turn up and went, so worth staying tuned for the latest. —— whether showers will turn up. quite a windy day, especially towards the west, and 18 for stornoway, may be 2a in norwich, eastern england seen the warmest weather. some of the driest as well. that will be the case again on sunday. most of the showers up towards the north and west of the uk, some further south and east, and

later in the day, some more cloud and persistent rain pushing into the south—west. 18—23. let me show you next week. it starts on a fairly unsettled note, but by the end of the week, there are some signs that it may start to turn drier and indeed a little warmer again. thanks, ben. and that's bbc news at six. you can keep up with all the latest developments on bbc website. the news continues here on bbc one, as now it's time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the news where you are. goodnight. hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm hugh ferris. our headlines this evening. on the premier league's opening night, a star is leaving the stage. harry kane is on the move to munich.

will come along. it appears the premier league season could be about to start without one of its most famous faces, but with a new british transfer record. harry kane is due in germany to have a medical ahead of a move to bayern munich from spurs after the two agreed a fee of around £86 million, while111 million is the amount liverpool are willing to pay for moises caicedo. both transfers may well befit the term saga, but kane's current manager — for the time being, at least — ange postecoglou, says a deal is "imminent", and revealed that he's known since the day he took over that his striker planned to leave. in my mind, after the conversation, it seemed harry had made up his mind. if not, he was also happy to stay. it wasn't like he was forcing it on me. he was very professional about it and i tried to treat him with the respect that a player of his standing deserves. we've been playing for this, fair to say, for a

while. i think it doesn't take too much investigative work to realise that this was going to happen, so we've been planning for it to happen anyway. a lot of business up until now. this doesn't change things dramatically from my perspective anyway. at the other end of this deal is bayern, who have spent the whole summer trying to prise the england captain away from spurs. let's head to munich and our correspondentjoe inwood. joe, ange postecoglou said it's imminent from his point of view. what are you hearing out there? basically the same thing. the expectation here at the arena is that harry kane is on his way. there's been a rumour all day. there often is with this talk of him, but we understand he's probably on his way now. he may even be in the

liverpool will do better, manchester united will be better, but i don't think anyone will upset... not many are betting against manchester city this season. it would seem in fact all but one of the 27 bbc pundits asked to predict the champions went for them to win the league again, and that's why the battle to try and catch. to try and catch city has intense and so very costly. we've already talked about moises caicedo, and if he moves to anfield, he'lljoin dominik szoboszlai — the hungarian who's their most expensive signing so far — as liverpool try to get back in the title race. arsenal were city's closest challengers last season and they spent 100 million alone on declan rice. kai havertz hasjoined him at the emirates. and in manchester city have haaland, well, manchester united now have hojlund one of three big signings along with andre onana and mason mount who, like kai havertz, are part of the overhaul at chelsea with six in and double that out. and perhaps to that list of contenders you can now add newcastle, fourth last season and ready for the champions league. but their saudi backers have spent around £150 million this summer,

enjoy. head to the iplayer to watch our football news show. that's it from sportsday, goodbye for now. hello. we had our brief spell of warmth in the last couple of days, and now that the weekend is here, of course, it's turning a little cooler and more unsettled. but don't get me wrong, it's not going to be awful. there will certainly be some fine weather around, some lengthy spells of sunshine, but quite a few showers around as well, brought by this area of low pressure just to the north—west of us right now. and this is how it's going to barrel across the uk during the course of the weekend, and the closer you are to the centre of this low pressure, the more frequent the showers will be. so, through the course of this evening and overnight, showers, quite frequent ones spreading into northern ireland by the morning, western scotland, perhaps the irish sea, wales, maybe the south, too, whereas many central and eastern parts of the uk should wake up
6:58 pm
to a bright, if not sunny, weather saturday morning with temperatures around 15—16 degrees. so a pleasant start to the day. and here's saturday itself — quite brisk winds around western coasts with these atlantic winds and a mixture of sunshine and showers. some of them could be heavy, could be a crack of thunder, most lengthy spells of sunshine, i think, in the south. and this pattern will continue into sunday as well. so, again, the closer are to the centre of the low, the more frequent the showers will be and generally out towards the west, too. so london, norwich, hull probably faring best with fine weather, some spots could actually get away with a completely dry weekend. now, let's have a look at monday. the low pressure still with us, but it is fizzling away. still have a weather front here, so that does mean that across east anglia and the southeast for a time on monday, it could be in the morning or lasting into the afternoon. difficult to say, but some cloud and rain certainly in the forecast. showers could break out also across scotland, but many areas towards the west actually fine weather
