liverpool and chelsea underachieved last season, so their meeting on the opening weekend was always going to be an interesting one, especially for the blues who've had a major rebuild and a new manager in mauricio pochettino, formally of p56 and tottenham. it finished 1—1 at stamford bridge. liverpool started really brightly, luis diaz scoring their goal after after 18 minutes. chelsea's equaliser came before the break, french defender axel disasi scoring on his debut. both sides had plenty of chances to score more but it was a point a piece with both managers fairly satisfied. overall i think we deserved a little bit more or more than liverpool. yes, i think we feel pleased and we feel at the same time disappointed because we wanted to win and we deserved to win, yeah, but that is only

the beginning and i'm so pleased with the performance of the players, very pleased with the staff. if you asked me if i was completely happy with the game, no, but i saw enough to say, so that was really good and in periods, we step further in the right direction. it was a super intense game. a wild game in moments and we should have controlled it much more often. that would have helped, for some reason we couldn't do that, or didn't do, and now we will keep working. well away from the pitch, liverpool and chelsea have been engaged in something of a tug of war for brighton's midfielder moises caicedo. chelsea was always the ecuadorean*s preferred destination and a deal has been agreed for his transfer to stamford bridge for an initialfee of £100 million, rising to 115. that would be a british record. this is pending a medical and all the usual personal terms but it would appear that chelsea have got their man, even though brighton had also been prepared to sell to liverpool.

in sunday's other premier league match, tottenham began life after harry kane with a 2—2 draw at brentford. new spurs manager ange postecoglu saw both their goals scored by defenders, christian romero with the opener and emerson royal made it 2—2, brentford's goals came from a bryan mbeumo's penalty and they briefly led through yoane wissa. we handled ourselves pretty well i think, in terms of effort i couldn't ask any more of the players. i thought they obviously got a good start to the game and then we had to take romero off and i thought we reacted well to that. obviously you concede a penalty and an own goal and then very easy for us to drop our heads but before we did that i thought we did really worked our way back into the game,

scored our goal and second half we controlled it for the most part. but ijust felt we may have been a little bit more creative in our front there just to create some more opportunities for ourselves. i think we showed again why we have something to do in premier league, why we want to constantly push and develop. i always want three points no matter who we face. and today i think we could have edged but we didn't. i think it was an interesting game for the fans and everyone neutral watching so i guess it was ok. we've actually heard from harry kane, 2a hours after hejoined bayern munich from spurs. the england captain explained how tough a decision it was to leave tottenham after 19 years — and also the premier league, where he has had to put on hold that ambition of breaking on the all—time goalscoring record. i'm a professional and i've always push myself to the limits and i felt like the time was right. i needed to play my highest limits. i needed to be playing champions league. trying to win titles every year, so when i

thought about it and bayern got in touch, it was a decision i wanted to make. and of course people will talk about a record but look, i've got plenty of football left in my career. for now it is to concentrate on trying to achieve things here, trying to push myself and trying to reach new levels with this club and that is all my focus is in right now. it's the second weekend of the scottish premiership season, champions celtic are top on goal difference with two wins out of two. they won 3—1 at aberdeen. liel abada, kyogo furuhashi and matt o'riley with the goals at pittodrie. no goals between hearts and kilmarnock. and mika biereth came off the bench and scored what proved to be the winner for motherwell against hibernian. champions barcelona started their la liga season with an ill tempered goalless draw at getafe. both sides finished with ten men and barca manager xavi was also shown a red—card. osasuna beat celta vigo 2—0. real betis defeated

clear skies across northern ireland so a cooler start here. the rain gradually pushes northwards and there are met office weather warnings for heavy rain across northern england, east and west of the pennines and wales here and for the south—west of england i think it will dry out and brighten up as we head through the afternoon. showers across most of south england and east anglia but also brighter spells and the highest temperatures of the day will be here stop sunshine and showers for northern ireland and temperatures here in the not —— high—teens and perhaps the low 20s. looking much more settled by the time we get to tuesday and that low pressure system has moved off into scandinavia. could be a few more showers p°ppin9 could be a few more showers p°pping up could be a few more showers popping up across eastern areas of scotland and northeast england i think as we go through the afternoon but lots of dry weather around as well and sunshine and temperatures wising more widely into the low 20s and celsius —— rising. low pressure starting to exert it influence and stalling the weather fronts out in the atlantic, too. quite a misty and murky start of the day with

low cloud around and the winds are light so that cloud won't break up very easily. it does mean we if we do see any showers forming on wednesday they could be heavy and slow—moving temperatures really starting to rise in the south, after 2a and 25 celsius and then we draw in more of a south—easterly wind that will push early quite warm air from the near continent alleway temperatures will be rising, particularly at towards western coastal areas and i think we could still see some showers and temperatures peg back before —— towards eastern coasts but temperatures rising into the mid 20s and really quite widely. western facing coasts. then on friday we look at towards the south—west and there is another area of rain readily spilling its way north and east and this is the big change in the forecast over the last couple of days or so it will be turning unsettled for many areas on friday but we hang onto the warm air ahead of these showery downpours of rain. temperatures again widely in the low to mid 20s in south

and it should be feeling quite warm i think for many of us on saturday gradually it turns wet and windy as we head through next weekend and then we start to see high—pressure building again from the south and a low pressure out towards the north and west this is always where it will be cooler and more showery but temperatures still across much of scotland and will rise into the low 20s and celsius and always warmer and drier and brighter the further south and east you are. that is the forecast, goodbye for now.
