the netherlands opened the scoring through a controversial laker mertens goal before alessio russo equalised. alessia russo equalised. but rene jansson sealed the deal for the dutch with a dramatic 90th minute winner to hand england their third defeat under wiegman. it means england are third in group a1 after two games. there were mixed fortunes for the rest of the home nations. scotland, who are also in england's group, are still bottom, despite sophie howard's 94th minute equaliser getting them a late point against belgium, who topped the group on four points. pernilla hader scored a hat trick as wales were outclassed by denmark. the republic of ireland cruised past hungary and tanya oxton b's first home game in charge saw northern ireland beat albania. and there were seven games in the english football league trophy on tuesday night. current holders manchester united got their title defence underway with a convincing 3—0

win against crystal palace, alejandro garde, nacho casimiro and anthony martial on the scoresheet to go through to the fourth round. two other premier league teams were dumped out of the competition wolves who were 2—0 wolves who were 2—0 up over championship high flyers. ipswich lost three two in the end. ipswich mounting the comeback to reach the last 16 for the first time since 2010 and league one side exeter caused a big cup upset to beat premier league newcomers luton but goalscorer demetri mitchell was sent off five minutes after scoring. you can of course get the full details from all of tonight's games over on the bbc sport website and the bbc sport app. now the excitement is building in rome ahead of the ryder cup, which gets started on friday 18. team europe will be looking to extend their home record and win the cup back from the usa. they haven't lost the contest

and was also a stunt driver in the most recent james bond film. formula one has not had a women star on a grand prix since 1976, butjessica suggested there might be another in the future, certainly based on the reaction she had to hear of the news of her test being released today. i've driven fast things and i've driven crazy things and lots of race cars, but this thing was amazing and ijust had faith in myself, trust in my ability that this is what i do, this is what i've been doing for 20 years. so whilst i wasn't... there was some slight nerves leading up to it. i had belief and trust in myself that you know that this is what i do. whilst i, i mean, i don't know, i can't speak for all of the, all of us lady racers. i believe that we can race against the men. well, i know we can. we've proved we can. but what i think w series and

f1 academy is doing has done but what i think w series and f1 academy is doing/has done is giving a platform for the younger generation to look at, to know that that is something that they can do. because perhaps, maybe a few years ago, certainly when i first started, if i'd have turned on formula one, i wouldn't have known that i had been able to do that. i wasjust, i guess, lucky in the way that i started, because i saw it in the distance one day and i begged myself, my dad, day and i begged my, my dad, to let me have a go. whilst maybe in, i don't know, ten years or 20 years, however long it takes. hopefully we don't need a women's only championship. but for now, if it's what we need, i'm a massive advocate and i will never hear a bad word said about any championship that is doing and standing up to what we need. for me, it's all about making it possible for a young girl to be inspired and to be able to follow her dream, no matter her gender, or even if it's not motorsport or even a young girl going into a different stereotypically man's world. go and follow your dream and go and make it happen.

and nobody should ever be telling. this goes for boys as well. by the by the way, this is not just a female thing. go and follow your dream. and nobody should ever tell you you shouldn't do something because of your gender. if i can see a woman in formula one and however many years it is, and know that myself and my generation of female racers helped her achieve her goal so she didn't have to knock down the barriers that we did. then i'll be a very, very happy girl, probably with some sort of smalljealousy, but i'll be extremely, extremely proud. that's all we've got time for from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre. it's goodbye for now. hello there.

storm agnes is going to be bringing some very strong winds to irish sea coasts during wednesday, could bring some disruption at the moment. agnes is rapidly developing underneath this powerful atlantic jet stream. there's some evidence that we might see a sting jet form. that's something that really accelerates the winds. and at its peak, well out to sea, the winds are modelled to reach 120 miles an hour in gusts. so some ferocious winds. they will stay well away from land. and, actually, by the time agnes works across the uk, it will be working in as a weakening area of low pressure. still though, the winds strong enough to bring some disruption, as we'll see in a moment. now, if you're outside at the moment, you might notice the winds picking up across wales and south—west england. otherwise it's a breezy kind of night. it's quite cool for scotland where there'll be one or two showers. the weather turning increasingly mild as we head into the first part of wednesday morning for england and wales. now, the strongest winds from agnes will be working through irish sea coasts where gusts could reach 60s to 70s of miles an hour, strong enough to bring some disruption. it will be a bright start with some sunshine for scotland, and eastern england having

a relatively quiet day. it's through the afternoon that we get this swathe of really strong winds moving in, the winds strong enough to bring some power cuts, maybe some transport disruption, ferries perhaps running with cancellations or delays. and we'll probably see some trees being blown over as well due to those strong winds. and the winds continue overnight across northern england and scotland. so very windy here wednesday night before agnes starts to clear out into the norwegian sea. we then get a ridge of high pressurejust ahead of the next system. and what that means is actually for thursday, many of us, at least for a time, will see a slice of dry weather with a bit of sunshine as agnes works away before the next band of rain works in through the course of the afternoon, some of the rain could be quite heavy in the west, thursday afternoon. continues to be mild, temperatures about 16—20 degrees celsius and another relatively mild day on the cards for friday. there will be lots of showers around for scotland, northern ireland, the far north of england, perhaps merging together across the far north of scotland to bring some wetter weather, whereas across southern areas of england and wales it looks

like being a dry day on friday with some warm spells of sunshine temperatures 16—21. what about the weekend weather prospects? well, things look quite unsettled at the moment. we're looking at the risk of showers or some longer spells of rain for many of us this weekend, but it will stay on the mild side. bye for now.
