sure there might be champions but host india got an economic boost from the cricket world cup. hello and welcome to asia business report. i'm suranjana tewari. we begin with the turmoil at the top of openai. there are reports of ongoing discussions among the company's top executives about reinstating, sam altman, as chief executive. reinstating, sam altman, this just days after the board of the company behind the chatgpt—bot shocked the tech world by firing mr altman, a man who's been the face of openai's rise. our business reporter, david wadell, has more. it's been a tumultuous few days at openai. on sunday, sam altman sent a tweet, said this first "and last time he said, i ever wear one of these. "it's a guest pass for the offices of openai". he was fired on friday. he's been invited back by the interim ceo, mira moratti, according to reuters. that's with a view to him possibly rejoining the company. when he was fired, the company released a statement. they said this. mr altman's departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded he was not consistently candid in his communications, hindering, they said, its ability to exercise its responsibilities. the board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading openai. his dismissal has angered current and former employees concerned about what his departure may mean for the value of the company. one of the big shareholders is microsoft reportedly owns 49% of the company. they're among those apparently taking a lead in trying to get mr altman back on board. their concern is that his departure may mean to bleeding of other, wider talent. the challenge, though, is whether they can get his reinstatement past the current board.

my concern is when i get up in the mornings and open my curtains, i'm not going to see the fields behind me with the sheep and the wildlife. i'm just going to see a wall of prison. plans were first submitted by the ministry ofjustice for a new prison adjacent to the current prison over two years ago. it was refused permission by harborough district council. however, that refusal has now been overturned on appeal by communities secretary michael gove. i'm astounded at this decision. i think it's completely the wrong decision, and as one member of the public described it to me this morning. they see it as a slap in the face for democracy. it's always been the wrong place. these are country lanes, a country area where they're trying to facilitate this. a spokesman for the mo] said that the decision at gayatri is critical to delivering the 20,000 extra places we need to keep dangerous offenders off the streets, and it'll boost the local economy by creating hundreds of new jobs. protesters here say they'll fight on. they're calling for

bbc news bringing you different stories from across the uk. we're campaigning for free school meals. it's been proven that people that have school meals make more progress in english and maths. the school council at hill stone primary in birmingham is on a mission. all children in england get free school meals until they're seven, but from year three only a limited number are entitled year three and above. if you earn more than £7,400, then that figure hasn't changed for a long time. then you're not entitled to free school meals. so we've got parents on low incomes working two or three jobs to make ends meet, earning just over that amount of money, and then they have to pay for school meals as well.
