with the red wall behind us, that we're capable of getting fantastic results and fantastic nights, so we're hoping for two big efforts. a rare underdog seeking revenge. katie taylor says she's ready for her rematch with undisputed champion cha ntelle cameron. hello again. welcome along to the programme. serbia have knocked great britain out of the davis cup, with novak djokovic dealing the final blow in the competition's quarterfinals in malaga. afterjack draper lost the opening rubber to miomir kecmanovic, the world number one beat cameron norrie to take his country into the last four. joe wilson was watching. you could focus on the missing men — no murray, nor evans — but this was a talented team for great britain. against serbia, jack draper was playing kecmanovic, not djokovic.
12:46 am
and british victory in the opening singles seemed imperative, but miomir kecmanovic was super—strong and extremely consistent. he said he felt the pressure — well, he thrived. britain's captain leon smith has been through all this before. draper, at 21, not so much. ranked just below his opponent, draper took kecmanovic to two tie—breaks, but he lost them both. serbia celebrated as if they knew what was coming. well, here he is. novak djokovic tried to settle it. in the blue corner, cameron norrie. good luck. now, there were some british voices in the crowd trying to hurry djokovic up when he served, but when he won the first set, the gesture was aimed back at them — good—natu red, probably. djokovic wrapped up the match in straight sets, job done for serbia. then he went to do an on—court interview, seemingly near some noisy british supporters. it wasn't broadcast
12:47 am
at the time, it was captured on a mobile phone. djokovic suggests they learn how to respect players and behave. britain out, davis cup djokovic continues. joe wilson, bbc news. djokovic and serbia will face italy in the semifinals on saturday. jannik sinner won his singles match and then teamed up with lorenzo sonego to take the deciding doubles for a 2—1 victory over the netherlands. the 12 teams still in with a chance of qualifying for euro 2024 have found out what route they'll need to take to make it to germany next year. wales will play finland in their playoff semifinal in march, one of two games they'll have to win to reach the tournament. they're one of those playing for the final three qualifying spots after missing out on an automatic one this week. if they beat finland in cardiff, they'll take on either poland or estonia — also at home — for a place at the euros. what's important to us, as you'll be aware of,
12:48 am
is that home draw in the second leg in the final. that was important for us. we've got to get the job done first and foremost, of course we have, but, yeah, we were probably wanting to avoid ukraine as well, so i think it's gone to plan for us. i don't think any team in that group would have been wanting to play us. the form we're in at the minute, and with the red wall, at home, we'll take anybody on in cardiff. elsewhere, 2004 champions greece will need to beat kazakhstan and then either georgia or luxembourg, while bosnia will play ukraine and israel will face iceland. expectations are really high in iceland, as always. we want to be in the finals. we got the smell of it in 2016, and then in the world cup in 2018, so i think it's a big thing in iceland to be back in a final tournament. and that's what our goal is, to be there. so, first, we have to beat israel and then onto the other game, and then we'll see
12:49 am
how things go. argentina's angel de maria has announced he'll retire from international football after next year's copa america, when his team will defend their title. the forward has represented his country for 15 years and was part of the world cup—winning squad. his goal in the final was one of the 29 he's scored for argentina in 136 appearances. di maria is 35 now and currently in a second spell at benfica, having played also played club football for the likes of real madrid, psg and manchester united. sam kerr scored a hat—trick to give chelsea their first win of the women's champions league this season. the australian provided three of her team's goals in a 4—1 victory over paris fc at stamford bridge. they're second in their group behind swedish side hacken, who beat real madrid 2—1 for a second win in a row. elsewhere, bayern munich beat psg1—0 in paris and roma won 3—0 against ajax. it's only four days since they met in the world cup final, but india and australia played another game of cricket on thursday.
12:50 am
and this one was a lot closer than the match in ahmedabad on sunday. it was a t20 and was won thrillingly by india with a six off the final ball by rinku singh. scant consolation, you'd imagine, and the teams were very different after the seven—week slog of the 50 over competition that's just ended, but india chased down 210 to win in visakhapatnam. lewis hamilton has denied claims he approached red bull earlier this year about a move to the team that's been dominating formula one. their team principal christian horner told a british newspaper there'd been an "inquiry" from hamilton. the seven—time world champion signed a new two—year deal with mercedes in august after protracted negotiations. i've not approached christian, i've not spoken to christian for years. and no—one from my team has... you know, i checked with everyone, and no—one from my team has reached out to him. however, he reached out to me earlier on in the year about meeting up at the end of the season. and i was like, "hope you're
12:51 am
well, wish you all the best "and congratulations on an amazing season "so far and i hope that i'm able to compete "with you in the near future." for once, the detroit lions went into their traditional nfl thanksgiving day appearance in good spirits. a team with often one of the worst records in the league had the second best ahead of their game against the green bay packers, but they suffered just their third defeat of the season — and a surprise one — to their nfc north division rivals. lions quarterback jared goff fumbled twice in the first half and had one returned for a touchdown by jonathan 0wens. the packers never let their early dominance slip, and whenjordan love connected with christian watson for a 16—yard score, they put the game out of reach for the lions, eventually winning 29—22. katie taylor says she's determined to take her "second chance" when she faces chantelle cameron in their rematch on saturday night. the irish boxer suffered the first defeat of her professional career in may when losing to the light—welterweight champion from england. cameron is undefeated in 18 fights, but it's taylor who has never gone into a pro fight
12:52 am
as an underdog. she'll be on home turf again in dublin this weekend. and our reporter ade adedoyin is there for us. the contrast in body language of both fighters at today's press conference, as compared to the press conference in may, when they faced each other, was very interesting. back then, chantelle cameron seemed very nervous, a little bit on edge. katie taylor was all smiles, very relaxed, did lots of media interviews. this time around, katie taylor was all business. she did the press conference, which only lasted about 15 minutes, and then walked offstage, didn't really want to speak to any members of the media, declined all interviews. it's clear that this is a huge night for her on saturday night against cha ntelle cameron. she's in this unusual situation where, for the first time in her professional career, she goes into the fight as an underdog, trying to reverse a first defeat dating back to 2016, at the rio 0lympics. and the magnitude of the occasion clearly isn't lost on her. i understand that this is
12:53 am
a huge fight and i understand this is a must—win fight for me and i can't waitjust to step in there. i know that i'm going to perform to the best of my ability on saturday and it's going to be a different fight from the last time. i feel a lot better this time around. i just can't with you step in there. —— ijust —— i just can't —— ijust can't wait —— i just can't wait to step —— ijust can't wait to step in there. there's nothing else to say, really. i'm just ready to fight. i hate all the talk, i hate all these press conferences! there's nothing to say. i'm just ready to fight at this stage and i'm excited for it. i'm very, very grateful to have this opportunity and i'm just ready. katie taylor there. quite a contrast to chantelle cameron, who's been all smiles this week. she did tell me that it was a little daunting last time around facing katie taylor here in dublin, the home favourite, the national treasure with so much expectation on her, despite being the champion but being considered the underdog for that fight. she says she wants to prove that what happened
12:54 am
last may wasn't a fluke — and she's confident that this time around, the victory will be even more emphatic. saturday night, i think, is the passing of the torch, and that's the way i'm looking at it. i beat her the first time. katie taylor called for the rematch, and now it's me stamping my authority and saying, "no, this is it, "this is the passing of the torch now." and a final question for you. when you are in training and you put your head on the pillar, i guess, everybody always thinks about how these things play out. when you visualise saturday night, what are you seeing? a much dominant performance from me and the win. how does it come? we'll see saturday night. this is a huge night, really, for both women. for chantelle cameron, victory here will cement her as one of the best fighters in the world. for katie taylor, there's been so much talk in the past about her potentially fighting at croke park, maybe facing amanda serrano, who she beat at madison square garden in a rematch. to keep that prospect alive, she has to get past chantelle cameron on saturday night. that's ade adedoyin in dublin for us. there is much more on that big fight on our website, and indeed you can get
12:55 am
all the latest sports news from there or, indeed, the bbc sport app. but from me and the rest of the team here at the bbc sport centre, thanks forjoining us. that's it for sportsday. goodbye for now. hello. a change is taking place in our weather. thursday brought temperatures as high as 15 degrees in parts of the uk. i don't think we'll see 15 on friday. colder air has been pushing down from the north. a cold wind, some sunny spells, yes, but scattered showers, some of which will be wintry over high ground in the north. we've got high pressure to the west of us, low pressure to the east driving these strong northerly winds, bringing that cold air southwards — although, as you can see, we start the day with something a little bit milder across parts of wales, southern and south—western england and the channel islands. colder further north, wintry showers for a time,
12:56 am
even to quite low levels in northern scotland. i think the wintriness increasingly becoming confined to the hills. quite a few showers down the east coast of england, too. northern ireland, wales, the south—west starting cloudy, but brightening up as the day wears on. breezy for all, but windy for the east coast of england and most especially for north—east scotland. there'll be a significant wind chill through friday afternoon. so, these are the temperatures on the thermometer, but factor in the strength of the wind, it will feel like freezing across parts of north—east scotland, particularly the northern isles. a little bit milder down towards the south—west corner. now, during friday night, winds will slowly ease. it does stay quite breezy for these eastern coasts with a few showers, but with high pressure building from the west, we'll see clearing skies, lighter winds and a really cold night. some places likely to get to —5 celsius as we start saturday morning. quite a widespread frost, but lots of sunshine to start the weekend. still some showers down this east coast. i think it'll still feel
12:57 am
quite chilly here. still a fairly brisk wind, but not as windy. top temperatures, 4 degrees for glasgow, 8 degrees in plymouth. so, yes, a chilly—feeling day, but it will not be as windy. now, as we move into the second half of the weekend, high pressure tries to hold on — a frosty start for some on sunday. but low pressure attempting to push in from the west, so it does look like we'll see some outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards. but eastern parts of england, certainly north—east scotland staying largely dry. could see a bit of rain getting into shetland. something milder trying to push in from the south—west. but broadly speaking, actually, next week looks like remaining cold, with spells of rain at times and perhaps a little bit of snow in places. that's all from me. bye for now.
