radtke in terms of how everyone is doing, we know the five—year—old girl and the woman in her 30s are still ina girl and the woman in her 30s are still in a serious condition. so everyone's thoughts are with them. dublin city centre this morning is trying its best to get back to normal but that clean—up operation is still under way. the car manufacturer nissan has confirmed it will invest up to 1.12 billion pounds, to produce new electric cars in the uk. the money — equivalent to 1.4 billion dollars — will be invested at the company's existing plant in sunderland. nissan says the deal should safeguard the future of the factory. the investment is despite a recent government decision on ev�*s — postponing the ban on selling new petrol and diesel cars by five years to 2035. our money and work reporter peter ruddick has the details. there has been a factory here making

cars since 1986 but there has been some uncertainty bothhere and in the industry in recent months and years, not least when the prime minister decided to push back that planned ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles. but confirmation this morning that nissan will build the new electric versions of its qashqai and juke models right here as well as the successor to the electric leaf car which is already made here. that is a real boost for the region and for the 6,000 workers whose jobs are reliant on the factory here. those jobs now a lot more secure. we think this represents about £2 billion of new investment from nissan, essentially to get the factory here ready and to train the staff in the new vehicles. that cash will also go towards a third battery plant for nissan. they've already got one just down the road which supplies batteries to the cars they make here and there is another one under construction. of course, that is crucial because in the next few months there will be a tax or a tariff brought in for cars that are sold

that don't contain at least 45% of components from the uk or the eu. we think this deal today also contains some government support, although that is a little unclear at the moment. what is also unclear is when these new cars will start rolling off the production line. important to say there is still uncertainty in the industry as well. experts think we need many more gigafactories, battery factories in the uk over the next few years. but here in sunderland at least, a commitment from nissan to electric despite the prime minister's change of heart on that ban, and a commitment to the work here in sunderland. the prime minister rishi sunak has been visiting nissan's sunderland plant to see for himself how the investment might play out. in a broadcast interview he's been asked about the situation in gaza and britain's soaring immigration numbers.

of low pressure to the east of us, high pressure to the west and so northerly winds developing right across the country. early light rain or drizzle becoming confined towards the far south—west. still a bit more cloudy, still on the milder side of things to the end of the day, but for the rest of the country more sunshine developing through this afternoon. showers quite frequent down the eastern coast. where the winds will be strongest, 40, 50, 60mph gusts. that will have an impact on the way things feel. it is going to be a chilly afternoon. temperatures, in fact, for some of the south, actually drop through the day rather than rise with many in mid—single figures. add on the effects of the wind, it will feel closer to freezing across some parts of eastern scotland and north—east england. it will be a chilly afternoon. winds remain brisk and a cold feel here tonight, but temperatures actually not dropping away as much as it will do through central and western areas. a ridge of high pressure building in and winds fall lighter tonight. one or two mist or fog patches, but the biggest story is just the widespread frost. these are your city centre temperatures. in rural areas, particularly north—west england and southern scotland, minus five or minus six to start saturday. but what a cracking day it will be for many of you. a crisp, fresh start with lots of sunshine overhead. down the eastern coasts of england,

north and east scotland will still have some showers around, maybe a little bit wintry over the higher ground and still a brisk wind towards those north sea coasts. but away from that, light winds, sunshine. it will feel pleasant, but it will be colder with temperatures for most in mid—single figures. then another cold night as we go into saturday night. a greater chance of some mist and fog patches too and frost for a while, but temperatures rise in the west later as a fairly small area of low pressure starts to push its way in, but it will be enough to spread in cloud more widely. after a chilly start, temperatures could struggle to rise for some. the best of the sunshine in the north and east, and the winds lighter here compared with saturday. but in the west, we'll start to see outbreaks of rain develop and further rain to come on sunday night. and further rain to come on sunday night.
