slogan bring all back home. and in ukraine the biggest attack since the war. the biggest attacked by russian drones. that is what ukraine is saying as well as 70 were launched overnight. welcome to bbc news. 13 israeli hostages held in gaza have been handed over by hamas to the international committee of the red cross. seeing as we've been saying, hamas, the group designated as a terrorist organisation by the uk, had accused israel of reneging on the temporary ceasefire deal, by not allowing enough aid trucks into gaza. the dispute was resolved at the meeting between egypt and qatar.
10:01 pm
live to our middle east correspondent tom bateman who is in jerusalem. tom, thank you for joining. what is the latest on the hostages that have been released? what we know is that they have been transferred, as you say into the hands of the red cross, taken to the raffle border crossing between gaza and egypt. they have crossed it —— it rafah crossing. received by it israeli officials. very significant delay as you said, we're expecting this to happen all at four o'clock local time. that is eight hours ago. the delay was because it seems by a dispute about what was in the agreement relating to humanitarian aid passing from the south of the gaza strip to the north of the gaza strip. the armed wing of hamas accused the israelis of effectively
10:02 pm
not allowing enough aid to pass into the north. the israeli military category denied that and said they co—ordinate about that, it's the responsibility of the united nations. it was resolved with the immediate mediation of qatar and egypt. about seven hours later the agreement schedule, the handover from hamas to the red cross of 13 israelis, they are eight children and five women. also four thai nationals in that convoy that you are seeing from those pictures recorded earlier. brought down, travelling south to the rafah border crossing and driven over to the egyptian side. i think what we're expecting to see is a similar process to what happened last night. there was a short period last night
10:03 pm
where they were processed at a facility in egypt but under... haven't been received by israeli officials and then at that point taken last night by bus and some other vehicles to a gate crossing on the international border between egypt and israel. at that point taken to in israeli air base in southern israel where there were facilities that were as help for them, they could speak by phone to theirfamilies. last night them, they could speak by phone to their families. last night they were taken by helicopter to hospitals in egypt where they were reunited with their family. egypt where they were reunited with theirfamily. we egypt where they were reunited with their family. we would egypt where they were reunited with theirfamily. we would expect egypt where they were reunited with their family. we would expect the process now to be fairly similar. we believe they are currently, the egyptian part of this and shortly due to be taken into southern israel. , , ., due to be taken into southern israel, , ., ., . israel. just to reminder audience because you _ israel. just to reminder audience because you referred _ israel. just to reminder audience because you referred to - israel. just to reminder audience because you referred to those i because you referred to those pictures, we're showing on a loop

the latest pictures that we have of those hostages being transferred by the red cross to the rafah crossing. that's how they can then be received by the israeli defence forces and brought it back to their families. for now, tom, thank you so much. we will turn to our security correspondent. gordon, thank you. the complexity of all this, the delays we've seen, it's just a reminder of how complicated it is when there are mediators involved and these are direct conversations. that's right. these have been incredibly difficult negotiations to get to this moment, where we're in this process of exchanging people from both sides. that took a long time to get here. there were false starts, moments when we thought it looked to be an exchange, that process started and then today there can still be problems even when it
10:05 pm
looked like after yesterday that things were moving roughly according to plan. today we had that problem, which was pretty serious. they held it up for it to eight hours. clearly required a lot of intensive work from the different sides to put it back on track. that was always the concern that these things are really smooth, especially when you got so many moving parts. you've got people who have to move on different sides, you have to wait for one side to move before the other side can move. you have two parties that have been at war with each other and don't trust each other and you need those mediators for the people like that qatar is an egyptians to play their roles. it seems they have been very involved in this up to the run up today. it shows the difficulty, some people have been hoping that this might be extended beyond the four days if there are more hostages released. that is possible. i think we will have to wait and see given
10:06 pm
already the difficulties we've seen. it will be relieved that it is now moving. as we've seen in those pictures, the first side has moved with the israeli hostages being released from gaza. now we await for movement from israel with those people they are holding, the palestinians. i people they are holding, the palestinians.— people they are holding, the palestinians. ., ., ., ., ., palestinians. i want to read out a statement _ palestinians. i want to read out a statement from _ palestinians. i want to read out a statement from the _ palestinians. i want to read out a statement from the idf, - palestinians. i want to read out a statement from the idf, the - palestinians. i want to read out a l statement from the idf, the israeli defence forces they say the released hostages are with idf special forces inside israeli territory. and to continue on with that issue in terms of the next phase in negotiations, potentially the fact that this truce, there was a discussion of this truce continuing and being extended, thanks to those mediating efforts. we even heard the bbc had a qatari delegation in israel for those very same talks. how much
10:07 pm
control does hamas have when it comes to potential stumbling blocks, things like the actions of the palestinian islamichhad in gaza? that's the complicated factor is that there are lots of different parties in this. the mediators, the pressures over what to do within the israeli cabinets intelligently and also on the palestinian side with different groups. it is very unclear what will happen next. it is possible that at the end of this four days it will simply go back to the kind of war and conflict we saw before. that remains possible for that or it could be there some kind of extension. clearly, some parties are working to that extension. israel has said publicly it is still committed to destroying hamas and its ability to carry out further attacks. i think clearly some unknowns they are in terms of where
10:08 pm
this goes next. i think the immediate priority willjust be making sure that the next few days does move as it is supposed to, that those people are released and are in reasonable condition. there are these contacts, it was interesting to hear about that qatar is coming in today for a visit to clearly see about what else might be able to be done as well as deal with the current negotiations.- done as well as deal with the current negotiations. thank you for that. a reminder _ current negotiations. thank you for that. a reminder to _ current negotiations. thank you for that. a reminder to our _ current negotiations. thank you for that. a reminder to our audiences, | that. a reminder to our audiences, the pictures you are seeing there on the pictures you are seeing there on the screen are the latest pictures we have of the hostages being transferred to the rafah crossing. as we've been saying, hamas, the group designated as a terrorist organisation by the united kingdom have accused israel of reneging on the temporary cease—fire deal by not allowing enough aid trucks into gaza. that led to the next several hours of freedom hostages, all this in yesterday's

have been taken to the hearts of israelis and as soon as they are released, the reason i think we start to see the pictures and hear the stories is that they have the, well known figures, many of them inside israel now. and we continue to learn the identities of those 13 hostages. i also want to bring you a statement from the official spokesperson of the qatari ministry of foreign affairs who broke at this deal. he says 13 hostages, including a children and five women are on their way to be reunited with their families in israel. the hostages were supervised safely out of gaza by the international red cross as part of the implementation of military and bals that was mediated by qatar and egypt in coordination with the united states. the statement from qatar goes on to say

10:28 pm
the first part of sunday. the reason for that is we've got cloud moving in to the west associated with this next area of low pressure and it's that cloud that really will lift the temperatures as it moves in off the atlantic. and so some damp weather moves into northern ireland. eventually we get some damp weather pushing into wales and south west england. the rain quite persistent, but probably not all that heavy. however, i think it really will be very cold. towards the end of the day you might see temperatures climb to about nine or ten in the west, but that's at the end of the day, a very slow rise in temperatures. and for most of the day, we're a lot lower than that. i think scotland and a good part of central and eastern england should hang on to some bright or hazy sunny spells for most of the day. now, through sunday night, it's a bit more rains come for northern ireland, england and wales. 0ur area of low pressure moves into the continent. we then get some cold air coming back in to the north of the uk. showers turning increasingly to snow across modest hills in northern scotland and still a lot of cloud further south.
10:29 pm
and for most, monday will be another cold day. temperatures quite widely again, around six or seven degrees below average for the time of year. and this cold weather looks like it's going to last to me a long time. at least a week could be two weeks. why do i say that? well, even into next weekend, the weather pattern is very blocked with high pressure dominating across the arctic and the greenland area. and we continue to see these cold north to north—easterly winds. could there be some snow? well, we'll certainly see some snow in the showers affecting parts of scotland. but there are scenarios where weather systems could burn into the cold air and we see rain turned to snow elsewhere. problem is, the detailsjust aren't there at the moment. so it's a difficult week ahead for us forecasters. what i do know is it is going to stay cold throughout with some sharp frosts around and temperatures really struggling well below average. watch out for a mix of rain and maybe a bit of snow at times, too.

live from tel aviv, this is bbc news. hamas has handed over the latest group of hostages to the red cross for their transfer out of gaza, through the rafah crossing, and they have now arrived in israel. these are live pictures from 0fer prison in the occupied west bank, an israeli prison where the next group of palestinian prisoners are due to be released very soon. we can also see their continuing live pictures

of the rafah crossing. earlier here in tel aviv, relatives and friends of those still being held by hamas in gaza gathered here for a large rally with the slogan, bring them all back home. hello, you are live with bbc news here in tel aviv, where 13 israeli hostages who have been held in gaza have been handed over by hamas to the international committee of the car and they are now back in israel. this is the release of the second group which had been heavily delayed earlier this evening after the armed wing of hamas said that israel had not met some of the conditions of the truce, including allowing aid trucks into the northern part of the gaza strip, which israel had denied. but the dispute over the hostages was eventually resolved after

mediation efforts led by egypt and qatar. it means that the process that has happened this evening has been far slower than we saw yesterday, it is now after midnight, half past midnight in fact here in israel and gaza, and by this time yesterday, when we saw the first day of the deal, both the handover of hostages and the release of palestinian prisoners had happened by about 7pm or 8pm. there were concerns a little early on that this deal may be about to be delayed, and perhaps derailed completely, but qatar managed to bring things, it seems, back into place and we know now that those 13 israeli hostages and four thai hostages have been brought back into israeli territory. they are back on israeli soil, and we are now receiving various statements. we heard from the israel

lakes that will sustain us on the long journey ahead of us until the turn of all of the hostages. it is also worth saying that this first group of 50 only includes women and children. each evening, i knew list of hostages that will be released the next day is prepared, and the family and friends and loved ones, they wait for that list to be released to authorities and anaemic phone calls to the families. earlier, i spoke to noam sagi — his 75—year—old mother is being held hostage. she will probably meet the criteria for release. he described what it is like for these family members who are waiting, even before the hostage transfer process, they are waiting for that phone call to let them know that that love one will be on the list the next day, and he described the last that he heard from his mother on the 7th of october.
10:40 pm
so the last we heard from mum was on the 7th of october at 09:24 israel time when she was still texting my sister, saying that she see people with rpgs and kalashnikovs outside their house. she went into the safe room and that was the last we heard. the next thing that happened is at 6pm in the evening when the army came in, they only found bloodstains and she was not in the house. and we didn't heard since. and obviously because of her age, you are hoping that she is going to be included in in this deal that is being negotiated over the next few days. that is the hope, isn't it? it is. it is the hope. she is fitting the criteria because of her age, because of her gender to be released. but we're still waiting for good news. so talk me through that that process, because we know that lists are provided and then families are informed.
10:41 pm
so i suppose for you each day you will be waiting. you've got the phone, you're waiting for a call or a message. is that how it works? so we have a liaison officer for each family and every evening we're waiting for a call to say who is on the list and who is not on the list. they gave us a call. whether she is on or is not on the list. but up till now, we didn't heard. we're still waiting for tonight's list to be released. itjust you know, it's a torture. it's very intense. the whole family sitting and waiting and biting nails that we don't have and just want to see if she will be on the list. and when the evening comes to an end and the call hasn't happened, you've got to sort of pull back some strength and...wait again for the next day. it's crushing. it is crushing. the expectation gets to 100 and the disappointment gets

you back to zero. and you need to rebuild that again. i think we need to stay positive and we need to understand that this is a zero sum game. she is not here. nothing really happens. but we're working so hard. the last 50 days for us is like one long day and we try so many things and we meet so many people and we're talking to you and to so many others in order to get this moment to happen. so we need to be very, very positive and gather ourselves and find the energy to keep on going. iuntimely and gather ourselves and find the energy to keep on going. when you hear reports _ energy to keep on going. when you hear reports like _ energy to keep on going. when you hear reports like we _ energy to keep on going. when you hear reports like we have _ energy to keep on going. when you hear reports like we have in - energy to keep on going. when you hear reports like we have in the - hear reports like we have in the last few hours of adelaide in the handover process, that mustjust be another blow. —— the last few hours of a delay. another blow. -- the last few hours of a delay-— another blow. -- the last few hours ofa dela . ., of a delay. the most important thing is the mechanism _ of a delay. the most important thing is the mechanism and _ of a delay. the most important thing is the mechanism and we _ of a delay. the most important thing is the mechanism and we need - of a delay. the most important thing is the mechanism and we need to . of a delay. the most important thing | is the mechanism and we need to see the mechanism is getting into shape.

everyday there is a release, every day the ceasefire is being held, thatis day the ceasefire is being held, that is good for both sides and they will continue to do that because it is good for both of them. of course, there is very little trust, of course we find ourselves not trusting both of them either. but the mechanism needs to stay, to hold in order for us to see them stop any delay is another nervy moment. but you can add that to so many others, so i hope that the delay is in need interest of both sides to work it out. but we don't know. the description _ out. but we don't know. the description of _ out. but we don't know. the description of being one of those families waiting for the release of loved ones. he was saying that he hoped that once hostage release
10:44 pm
happened this evening and the prison release happened, he would get some sort of message to say his mother would be on the list tomorrow, but really describing their what it is like to be in that position, waiting for news. i want to show you as well some new pictures from the israel defence forces, these have been filmed by and circulated by the idf. these are their official pictures, showing the hostages actually being released. and we also have pictures as well of 0fer prison in the occupied west bank. this is where the palestinian prisoners will be released from 39 palestinian prisoners, three of them for each of those israeli hostages. and among the prisoners who were released from 0fer yesterday, on the first day of
10:45 pm
this deal, were a number of women and teenage boys as well, including this 17—year—old prisoner who we are told —— who told us what it was like told —— who told us what it was like to be released. translation: and what are your feelings now? translation: ican'tj even describe my joy. we were released at five in the morning, but we didn't know why until now. we were told there was a prisoner swap deal. may all the prisoners be released soon. were you assaulted? yes, yes. every day we were suppressed, checked and beaten. i was at the 0fer prison on administrative charges and spent eight months there. the prison i was in was like a graveyard for the living. there's no food there. and we were beaten every day.
10:46 pm
well, let's have a look, i was telling you about those pictures that have been filmed by and released by and circulated by the israel defence forces of hostages being transferred, as you can see. this is idf official video. you can see coach holding the israeli hostages moving through. this is then actually arriving back on israeli soil. because as we have been describing, this is quite a long, multistage process where first of all they are brought through gaza by the red cross, through gaza into egypt through the rafah crossing, then they come along through egypt and into israel. those are the pictures there, filmed and released by the israel defence forces. their official pictures. let's see them one more time, though, because this is a really key moment in the
10:47 pm
process this evening, particularly after those delays as well. as we were saying yesterday evening, this was all complete by 7pm or 8pm, but what you can see here again in the centre of your screen, you can see there the coach holding the 17 released hostages, 13 of them israelis and four time nationals, who were released as part of the deal. you can see the emergency service vehicle as well with the blue lights following them through. this is the moment they crossed back onto israeli soil. so, we are now in a position where the second day of this deal is almost completed. the final stage today will be the release of the palestinian prisoners who are being held. they are being held at various israeli prisons, but point at which they are actually released from the 0fer prison in the
10:48 pm
occupied west bank, we have seen pictures from there, there is a certain time window, technically a two hour time window from the release of the israeli hostages and then palestinian prisoners are released as well, they too will return home to family, friends and loved ones as well. let us talk now about the identities that have now been revealed, those 13 hostages that have crossed back into israel in the last half an hour also. among them is the irish israeli nine—year—old emily hand. emily's story and theirfamily*s nine—year—old emily hand. emily's story and their family's story was a difficult one because she was initially thought to have been among those who were killed in the attack on october the 7th. she was at a sleepover at a friend's house when she was abducted without any of her family with her. and in fact her family, her grandfather had given interviews talking about the fact
10:49 pm
that, and he said, in a way, it was almost better she had been killed because he hated to think of her having to go through the agony and trauma of being held hostage. then at a later point, in fact, it was revealed that was what had happened. so for that family and what they have been through, to have emily returned to them this evening will be particularly emotional. also, hila rotem shoshani, released this morning, 12 years old, was taken hostage with her mother. her mother was not released with her daughter and remains a hostage inside gaza. again, this is something that we are seeing, it is the release of women and children but we are seeing in some cases children release without their parents, without their fathers in particular. if they have a male family member being held. we also
10:50 pm
know about an accountant, 53 years old, and her 18—year—old daughter who has also been released among those 13 israeli hostages. 21—year—old maya regev, also freed this evening. 38—year—old who lives with her husband and their two children, all four of the family were kidnapped together from children, all four of the family were kidnapped togetherfrom kibbutz be'eri. we have see a lot of hostages released this evening wear from the kibbutz be'eri area, they had been on a visit there were five other members of the family. that is her son, other members of the family. that is herson, her other members of the family. that is her son, her eight—year—old son that you can see on screen just now, who has been released this evening. and also her three—year—old daughter who was part of the 13.
10:51 pm
you are live with bbc news. i am in tel aviv, we are showing you pictures of 0fer prison, in the occupied west bank, because we have now had confirmation of the final part of that deal today, the 39 palestinian prisoners have been released from 0fer prison this evening. we know that they are women and minors under 18. the suggestion is that of those miners, one was female and the rest were male. confirmation, that breaking news that those 39 palestinian prisoners were held in israeli prisons have also now been released this evening. that completes the second day of
10:52 pm
this four day deal. yesterday we saw the logistics, the choreography put in place. today we saw delays in that. i say it was supposed to happen on the second day, we are actually slightly into the third day now, because it is 12:50am here in gaza, in israel, because that process now has been completed. israeli authorities say 39 palestinians have now been released on that hostage deal, that from the israeli prison service. those live pictures that you can see on your screen just now are of the 0fer prison. i can also show you the scene in beitunia, the checkpoint area there palestinian released prisoners will pass through in order to get back to their homes. some of them returning to a part of the occupied west bank, some of them
10:53 pm
have been returning to east jerusalem as well. so that is beitunia that you can see there. now, let me take you next to london. organisers of a protest in london calling for a ceasefire in gaza say 300,000 people have taken part. the metropolitan police say that there have now been 18 arrests. two were accused of supporting a proscribed organisation, four other people who were distributing literature from a stall were also held on suspicion of inciting racial hatred. simonjones sent this report. another protest, another display of strong emotions. the organisers estimate 300,000 pro—palestinian demonstrators took to the streets, calling for an end to the bloodshed.
10:54 pm
but few here are optimistic against the backdrop of an already fragile truce. it's a four—day pause and it just means, what, you're saving somebody, what, for four days? but in four days' time, you're going to bomb them? i don't understand it. i think most people should be at least doing something within their means to state that this is an atrocity. 1,500 police officers lined the route of the march. for the first time the police have been handing out these leaflets, telling protesters they must keep on the right side of the law. the warning is, that anyone using words or images that are racist or incite hatred against a particular religious group could well face arrest. but the organisers say they had already made that clear to those taking part. i think it reasserts what everybody knows, which is there are laws against hate speech. there are laws against showing support for proscribed organisations. so i'm not quite sure what the leaflets add. shame on you!
10:55 pm
angry confrontations at trafalgar square when officers move in to arrest a man, and a breakaway group refused to leave after the official end of the protest, but were eventually dispersed. tomorrow, we'll see another large policing operation when a march against anti—semitism takes place in the capital. simon jones, bbc news. here in israel and gaza tonight, that news that hostages have been released, as have prisoners must stay with us here on bbc news. —— so stay with us here on bbc news. —— so stay with us here on bbc news. —— so stay with here on bbc news. hello. it's been a cold and crisp day across many parts of the uk. a clear evening on the way, too, and overnight, we're expecting another widespread frost. now, let me show you the satellite picture first — and in the last 24 hours or so, you can see the motion of the cloud. it's been coming in from the north, so that's where the cold air has been coming from, from the northern climes.
10:56 pm
but out towards the west, temporarily, we will see this incursion of slightly milder air brought by a weather front. so it does mean that the temperatures won't necessarily drop that quickly across western parts of the country. yes, across scotland and many central and eastern parts of the uk, with the clearing skies, there will be that sharp frost — but out towards the west here, where we have cloud and dribs and drabs of rain, actually by the early hours of the morning, probably no lower than three celsius in belfast, and in the tip of cornwall and devon, around seven celsius. so let's have a look at the forecast, then, for sunday — here's that approaching weather front or couple of them, warm front, cold front, occlusion actually, as well, and that means a lot of cloud and some outbreaks of rain. so it does mean that, after that beautiful and crisp saturday, sunday will be very different — grey skies, really overcast out towards the west with outbreaks of rain. but scotland, particularly central parts of scotland, will remain cold and clear through the day. some sunshine here in aberdeen, four celsius, and pretty chilly
10:57 pm
across yorkshire and down into the southeast. but southwestern areas will be a little bit mild, around 7—8. now sunday into monday, that weather front moves across the uk — in fact, it's right over us early monday — and it does spell some unpleasant weather in the morning on monday. so thick cloud outbreaks of rain, it'll feel cold, too — look at the winds coming in from the north again on this western edge of the area of low pressure, so the winds are coming around that low pressure dragging the colder air from the north yet again. so for most of us, it's single figures. and the cold air does hang around in the week ahead — in fact, there is milder air, but it's way towards the south and southwest of us. the air stream will be generally coming in from the north. so, here's the outlook for the week ahead. temperatures typically into single figures, but the weather will be quite variable and, in the mountains, wintry at times. bye— bye.
10:59 pm
live from washington. this is bbc news. a second group of hostages is released from gaza — hours after a temporary delay appeared to threaten the deal. in exchange, another group of 39 palestinian prisoners — all women and minors — are due to be released from israeli detention. and a major attack by russian drones on kyiv, as ukraine's military say more than 70 were launched overnight. hello, i'm carl nasman.
11:00 pm
after 50 days in captivity, a second group of hostages has been released from gaza and handed over to israel. you handed over to israel. are watching now the mome crossed you are watching now the moment they crossed to the border with the team from the red cross. with the team from the red cross. the israeli government says — 13 israeli women and children were freed as well as four foreign nationals on the second day of a temporary truce between israel and hamas. you are looking at the pictures of some of those freed hostages now. a total of 13 israeli hostages have been released, and are now with israel defense forces inside israel. the idf says they will be taken to israeli hospitals and reunited with theirfamilies. this all comes after a delay in the release — with hamas accusing israel of not fulfilling its part of the agreement, saying that *less than half* of the aid expected arrived in northern gaza. israel has denied these claims.
