of the nato summit. a couple of slip—ups has lead to more calls for him to step aside in the presidential race. biden is 81—year—old and he's facing questions over his age and ability to serve another term. let's look at the slip—up. first, he called president zelensky, president putin. and now i want to hand over to the president of ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination. ladies and gentlemen, president putin. applause. president putin? you've got to beat president putin! president zelensky. i am so focused on beating putin, we've got to worry about it. anyway... mr president. i am better. you are a hell of a lot better. then within the first few minutes of the press conference itself, biden called his vice president, kamala harris... ..vice president trump. what concerns do you have about vice president harris's ability to beat donald trump if she were at the top of the ticket? look. i wouldn't have picked vice president trump to be vice president if i thought
9:03 pm
she was not qualified to be vice president. so let's start there. number one. the fact is that the consideration is that i think i am the most qualified person to run for president. i beat him once and i will beat him again. let's ta ke let's take through this with our panel for the first time. caroline and leon, great to see you both. caroline, what is your assessment of whyjoe biden stands right now? that why joe biden stands right now? that was re whyjoe biden stands right now? twat was pretty painful. look, biden has a long road ahead of him from now until august, which is when the convention is. everything he does will be scrutinised, every sample and misstep. that is not, that is a crazy high bar that he is not meeting. his supporters have already been saying that he appeared statesman—like last night, if you minus a couple of those lips.

unfortunately, this is the president of united states. he does not get any latitude here. bottom line is, i think that it was a bit of a bummer, thatis think that it was a bit of a bummer, that is a political term, by the way. he did just fine and that is a bummer because it wasn't enough to tip the balance right now and force exit the race. but it wasn't flawless enough that it would quell the concerns that a growing number of notches voters but of his own party, have had. that is my assessment. it is a bummerfor the american people right now, notjust for biden. figs american people right now, not 'ust for biden. * , american people right now, not 'ust for biden. ~ , ., ., ~ for biden. as you are talking then, we were seeing — for biden. as you are talking then, we were seeing these _ for biden. as you are talking then, we were seeing these live - for biden. as you are talking then, we were seeing these live pictures| we were seeing these live pictures of biden who has arrived in detroit ahead of this campaign rally. our correspondence is there as well. we

with young people." "you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?" laughs you exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you. taylor lorenz is a tech reporter for the washington post — she's been covering this story — and explained to me how these memes have developed. people find her wacky, kind of nonsensical quotes and missives really relatable and funny. she's got this kind of raucous laugh that people love, and she just seems like everyone says, like your favourite wine aunt, you know, that's a little bit zany and, is just simply more relatable and funny than biden right now. i can see that, and i can see a kind of popularity online. but how much does that transfer? is this just a niche corner of the internet, or is there something wider there? no, it's not a niche corner. i think it started, almost ironically, you had a lot of big
9:11 pm
former bernie supporting leftist meme accounts joking about her. but now everybody is saying they're fully coconut pilled and they love her. and especially among gen z, you're seeing a lot of fan cams. i think there's a lot of excitement that the party might actually put someone that they can actually feel like they can rally behind. when you talk to young voters, and especially these young content creators that have audiences of millions, they don't want to get behind biden. he's never resonated with them. they felt like they were compromising for him in 2020, and just the possibility of someone like kamala is exciting. coke upheld was a new one on me. caroline and leon are here with me. —— coconut pilled. what do you make of that internet meanwhile potentially rolling over? everyone

9:27 pm
and some hill fog developing into tomorrow morning. so, it's a cloudy, damp, buta mild start to tomorrow morning. now high pressure remains out in the atlantic — it drifts a little further northwards as we head through saturday. low pressure still spiralling away in the north sea. it's developing more of a northeasterly wind as we head through saturday, so more of those showers just coming onshore, and even more, i think, through the day on sunday, too. but it's cloudy towards eastern areas. the best of the sunshine will tend to be across southern england into wales, perhaps the western highlands, northern ireland, northwest england, too, seeing some sunshine. watch out for some showers that will also develop — they'll melt away into the evening. temperatures, again, disappointingly low for the time of year, just ia—i9 celsius. and on sunday, with low pressure, remains out in the north sea again. we will see more showers across parts of northern england, down through southeastern scotland. there'll be more in the way of sunshine, though, further west, again, across western scotland, down through england and wales, and we'll see some higher temperatures, too.
9:28 pm
any showers, any cloud should melt away into the evening to leave us with a dry and a fine end to the day. now further east, in germany for the euros final on sunday evening, then, well, it's looking dry — some thunderstorms there at the moment of course, but it will be drying out. temperatures generally in the low—to—mid—20s. now, as we head through into the start of next week, well, it's not too long before we see our next area of low pressure drifting from the southwest, but because we're drawing in a south—westerly wind, then the air will turn a little warmer. so, temperatures will be rising, here's the outlook for our capital cities — still rather unsettled with some showers, and possibly some longer spells of rain at times, but a bit drier for most. bye— bye.
