well, here at saint pancras station, perhaps the first chance for members of the great britain olympic team to get a sense of the impact that they've made on audiences and the general public here in britain. of course, the paris games, as close as we're going to get to a home olympics, just a trainjourney away. and thatjourney for some of the medallists, a chance perhaps, to really begin in earnest a sense of reflection. my coach said it quite nicely, they've got a whole lifetime for it to sink in. and i guess that takes in a little bit, like i'm going to be an olympic champion for the rest of my life, and this whole game has been an amazing experience. and to yeah, to say it again, like to be part of this team. i'm so, so proud. and for the third time as well, it'sjust phenomenal. even before i left, my family were already organising a party on the 24th for me just to get... and i was like, it's only going to be my family. but now i think the whole community is going to turn up. um, but yeah, ithink it will be celebrating with friends and family.

and then we've also obviously got the team gb home coming up in manchester, which i wasn't going to do, but now i think we've got to go there. we've got to celebrate the medals as well. as one olympic cycle comes to an end, of course, another one begins and there will be significant decisions about funding to be made from the national lottery, from uk sport. but speaking to me here today from the british olympic association, a strong sense that their intention is to take this medal haul and push on. actually we had a fantastic outing in terms of total medals won. yes, we would have liked to win a few more gold medals, but then often it's fractions of a second. it's tiny little things, you know, it's the back of a clay that fails to detonate. it's a different line taken around a sailing buoy. it's, you know, the tips of adam peaty�*s fingers when he's got covid. these are the sort of things that separate silver from gold. so my message to everybody would be celebrate what's been achieved in the autumn. we'll have a look at it and we'll come back ready to go again in los angeles. well, just to finish, it is worth keeping all this in context. in 1996, if the british team

the football final. and so to the next olympics. the chairman of the la games, casey wasserman, says the five new sports that are going to be on their programme are lacrosse, baseball, softball, flag football, squash and cricket, will bring many more diverse audiences to the event. but he was asked if the divisive nature of american politics would impact the build up to his games. we have had three united states presidents sign letters on our bid, started with president obama and president trump and president biden. so we have been through three administrations who have remained incredibly supportive. and ijust want to remind people this is about red, white and blue. this is not about red and blue. we all march behind the same flag and sing the same anthem. and this is something that's going to bring our country together irrespective of politics. the olympics is not a normal event. it doesn't matter in what time it operates and what city it is. the benefit in la is we have

lots of incredibly big global events, and so we're used to different security protocols for those events. we want to have the greatest sports programme in the history of the olympics because we're a great sporting city. and so we're bringing some of the most important, most traditional, most meaningful sports in our country — baseball, softball and flag football. and we're bringing some of the most important, most accessible sports in the world, cricket and squash. there's a billion and a half people who cricket is what makes the sunrise and sunset every day, and they're going to be paying attention to the olympics like they never have. and that's an audience and a group of people who's going to have an exposure and awareness to la that may not have paid attention. and you think about lacrosse. it's a sport that has a truly

hello there. it's been a very dramatic start to the week, what with the thunder and lightning and the heat and humidity, and it was hottest across east anglia, the south east and lincolnshire. temperatures widely over 30 degrees. but it was in cambridge where we set the highest temperature of the year so far. those temperatures are ebbing away. we'll be turning cooler through the rest of the week, and while there'll be some sunshine at times, there'll also be some spells of rain. these are the temperatures early in the morning, still quite warm across southeastern areas, but elsewhere a more comfortable 10 or 11 degrees. and there is cloud and rain coming into western areas by the morning, and this rain will push very slowly eastwards. moving away from northern ireland,

we'll get some sunshine. we'll see the rain pushing eastwards across scotland, moving further into northern england, wales and the southwest. but across the midlands, lincolnshire, east anglia and the southeast, it's dry. a little bit hazy with the sunshine perhaps, especially in the afternoon, but very warm once again. temperatures 27 or 28 degrees. not as hot or as humid as it was on monday. but there is cooler air coming into the northwest. it follows that weather front that's bringing the cloud and rain. that meanders down towards the southeast. it brings a very different look to the weather across the east midlands, lincolnshire, east anglia and the southeast of england on wednesday. much more cloud around, a bit of rain and drizzle at times, although it does become drier later. but it's across the rest of the uk that we've got the fine weather this time, and it should be a fair bit of sunshine too. not that warm, perhaps making 20 degrees at best in scotland and northern ireland. a little bit warmer across england and wales. but it is turning cooler because we're seeing atlantic air coming our way, and that's going to bring with it some rain.

the next weather system arriving overnight and moving down into the uk on thursday. some stronger winds with that rain in scotland and northern ireland. it's moving more slowly southwards now, so it's going to be later in the day that we get some sunshine in the northwest. may well stay dry through the midlands, east anglia and the southeast, and actually quite warm here, temperatures 26 degrees or so. but it is cooling down a touch for scotland and northern ireland. that rain does eventually move southwards overnight. it may take a little while to clear away from southeastern most parts of england on friday, but otherwise following that, we've got some sunshine, blustery wind in the northwest will blow in some more showers into parts of scotland, where temperatures are still only 17 or 18 degrees, further south, 23 or 24.
