julius has been pushing forjustice for katana, but as yet there have been no arrests. it's a recurring theme. very few people have been charged on the allegations of killings of the elderly, and that's why i think even the people who are involved in killing, they feel they are so free. i went with one of the police officers to collect a body, and he told me, "julius, no, no, let them kill each other. "my work here is to pick the bodies." the police are the weakest link in the whole of this process. in most of our police stations, some of them, they can't even tell you how many people have been killed. they can't.
4:33 am
singing katana's fears are valid. we've been here two weeks, and are alerted to the funeral of another elderly gentleman found hacked to death with a panga. whistles and rattling wailing david karisa yeri left eight grandchildren and 20 great—grandchildren.
4:34 am
the deceased was a key witness in a land dispute. no—one seems to doubt that this is the reason he was killed. yet again, i am struck by the weight of the agony felt here. she cries the nephew of the deceased gentleman says he knows exactly who is responsible.
4:35 am
he wants to shout out the name and wants justice. is there really impunity for murder? i've been put in touch with a man who says he's been hired as a hit man in the past. i would never choose to meet someone who claims to be a murderer, who's responsible for such horrific suffering, but he is a crucial part of this jigsaw. what kind of person carries out such hideous attacks? and why?
4:36 am
4:37 am
4:38 am
how many people have you killed? he's a cog in a broken wheel. but whether one believes in witchcraft or not, no—one should ever be allowed to take life and walk free. the price of a life is around 50,000 kenya shillings, or roughly $380. and he's one of many that seem to have profited from murder. i do wonder at the failure of the moral fabric of society and the justice system here.
4:39 am
they greet each other an elders meeting has been arranged to discuss david's fears at his uncle's homestead. as is the usual custom, his son chris was summoned to join. but he hasn't come. katana has agreed to let us join him on a visit back
4:40 am
to his home. he has only been home once since the attack took place, and will only go with julius as protection. it is not an easyjourney. family and neighbours begin to gather as they see katana arrive.

family and neighbours begin to gather as they see katana arrive. they greet each other ah...
4:42 am
he cries
4:43 am
4:44 am
it's devastating. katana's tears and the pain of his youngest son are so hard to watch. i ask katana to show me the house where he was attacked. katana's wife joins us.
4:45 am
4:46 am
the atmosphere is uncomfortable. an argument seems to start in giriama. katana's wife is being
4:47 am
challenged over her lack of communication with him since he's been living at the centre. katana's wife feels under attack. i ask to speak to her alone. i hope to defuse her anger and listen to her.
4:48 am
4:49 am
katana's wife was amongst many questioned by the police but released with no charges. while tambala is surrounded by love, i'm left with nothing but sorrow here.
4:50 am
i'm told that the mere fact that katana has survived means many believe he must be a witch. so his very existence puts him at a greater risk of attack. i fear he will never go home. before i leave, i want to know if there is any resolution to david's situation. his son chris has agreed to talk to me. i'm a bit anxious about meeting chris. i don't know how he will take this. but also his dad cares for him and loves him and wants to have a relationship with him. so i'm hopeful that him knowing
4:51 am
this will kind of soften it. but i'm still quite anxious. we have arranged to meet in a public place, not at his homestead.
4:52 am
4:53 am
speaking to chris, he downplayed everything. he denied the allegations that have been put forward. he even said that he has an ok relationship with his father. it's difficult. i have not seen evidence of threats or attacks in my time here. but i know david feels unsafe.
4:54 am
family love is something i hold so close to my heart. i can't seem to comprehend... ..how things change... ..where you easily turn on your parents, siblings, people you've grown beside. you've shared a bed. you've shared a meal. you've shared a spoon. you share memories. you're connected. these are the people i believe you will do anything for. you will protect... ..to the death. but here it's the reverse. the law, the justice system, needs to do itsjob here. people need land title. violent crime must be punished.
4:55 am
and society needs to find its way back to a place where the elders are revered and cherished the african way.

hello there. there was a lot of cloud around on saturday for northern and western areas. the best of the sunshine was further east — and part two of the weekend looks pretty similar. we start dry with lots of sunshine, and then the cloud amounts will tend to build up into the afternoon, producing just one or two showers. now the azores highs continuing to nudge northwards across much of england, wales, northern ireland. so, light winds here, but fresher across scotland. it will remain breezy throughout the day here. we start off with plenty of sunshine after that fresh start, and then clouds will tend to build up into the afternoon. it could turn quite grey in a few places. the odd shower likely for western scotland, maybe western hills of england and wales. otherwise it's mostly dry, up to 25 celsius in the southeast, the high teens further north. sunday night, we do it all again, the clouds tend to melt away for many, and the clear skies, it'll turn quite fresh again with temperatures of 8—12 degrees.
4:57 am
now, some changes taking place to start the new week. the first of a series of low pressure systems will work its way in to the country during the day. so we start off with plenty of sunshine, but the clouds will tend to build in the west, and it'll turn wet and windy through the day. some pretty heavy and persistent rain for northern ireland, and it will turn windy with gales, perhaps around some irish sea coasts, but lighter winds again in towards the southeast, where it will stay dry and sunny all day. so temperatures responding, up to 25 celsius or so — that's the high teens further north and west, picking up a little bit more humidity as well from the south. and then monday night, that area of low pressure and its weather fronts crosses the country. it stays quite breezy into tuesday, with the low sitting to the north of scotland, and that will bring a day of sunshine and showers, some of them will be heavy and thundery, particularly in the north and west, some of them merging together to produce longer spells of rain for western scotland. temperatures down a touch, i think 22—23 celsius will be the high, mid—to—high
4:58 am
teens further north. and then we look out to the atlantic, this next area of low pressure contains the remnants of what was hurricane ernesto. and that potentially could bring quite a lot of rainfall to the northwest of the uk around the middle part of the week, certainly so for western scotland. but further south and east, it will tend to stay dry, i think, with some sunny spells, and it will turn increasingly humid as we pick up these southwesterly winds. stays pretty unsettled for the end of the week across more northern and western areas. a better chance of staying drier towards the southeast.
