a few companies attribute this to fierce competition and shifts in consumer preferences. the silver lining is inflation in raw materials has eased, and although just marginally, manufacturing output is at least growing. but this slow growth does put india's economic outlook under the scanner. data released last week showed growth in asia's third largest economy slowed more than a percent to 6.7% last quarter. now, a major reason was a massive cut in government spending in infrastructure during the months long general elections. add to that global slowdown, inflation and weaker consumer sentiments in rural india, where two thirds population resides. now, this has prompted economists and brokerages from goldman sachs to nomura to cut india's growth forecast for the year. that's also putting pressure on the central bank to begin cutting interest rates. higher rates, adjusted for inflation, are hurting businesses. so far, robust gdp growth gave room to the central bank to keep rates on hold and focus solely on bringing high food inflation under check. but economists say it could risk an even steeper economic impact, particularly on the industrial sector, where private investments
