what they calla light schedule of public engagements in what they call a light schedule of public engagements in the coming months. with me is our senior royal correspondent, daniela relph.. kensington palace have announced the princess has finished the preventative chemotherapy that she has been receiving. they also said they would not describe the princess of wales is cancer free at this stage but this stage of her treatment is now complete. the princess herself has issued a statement in which she said the path to healing and full recovery is going to be one so i think everyone is saying this is a stage in this process a very positive one after a really tricky few months for the royal family. but what is interesting is that what accompanies this update is a video, which has been made by an independent film—maker to update us on how the family are

doing. i have seen a few of these videos over the years but nothing quite as polished and intimate and emotional as this particularfilm. it intimate and emotional as this particular film. it shows the prince and princess of wales and their children on holiday in north norfolk over the summer. it is incredibly personal and we hear her talking to her children and playing cards with her father and her children at home and it just gives us a sense from her there is an overly of the princess and who was ofjust how difficult herjourney has been. well, the video was produced by kensington palace, narated by catherine herself. let's watch it now: as the summer comes to an end i cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. the last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. life is you know it can change an instant and we've had
4:32 pm
to find a way to navigate the stormy waters. the cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone. especially those closest to you. with humility, it also brings you face—to—face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before. and with that, a new perspective on everything. is perspective on everything. is this filming? hello. this - perspective on everything. is. this filming? hello. this time, as above all— this filming? hello. this time, as above all reminded - this filming? hello. this time, as above all reminded william | as above all reminded william and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life which so many of us take for granted. simply living and being loved. doing what i can to stay cancer

free is now my focus. although i have finished chemotherapy my path to healing and full recovery as long and i must continue to take each day as it comes. i am continue to take each day as it comes. iam however looking forward to being back at work and are taking a few more public engagements in the coming months when i can. despite all that has gone before, i enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation continuing their own cancer journs ofi remain continuing their own cancer journs of i rerr and appreciation of life. william and i are so sense of hope and appreciation of life. william and i are so grateful for the support we've grateful for the support we've received and have drawn great received and have drawn great strength from all those who are strength from all those who are helping us at this time. helping us at this time. everyone's kindness and everyone's kindness and compassion has been truly compassion has been truly humbling. so all those who are humbling. so all those who are

of darkness can come light so let that l film rhine bright. of darkness can come light so let that l film is ne bright. of darkness can come light so let that l film is that'ight. of darkness can come light so let that l film is that is ht. with that film is that is catherine in her own words. she wanted this story, her story, to be presented in this way. she has written what she wanted to say and the language that we heard it hers. the language she uses, she describes her cancer journey is incredibly tough, as scary and unpredictable and it gives you an immediate sense of what the past nine months or so have been like for her. it is also caused her as many to re—evaluate her life i think and to think about things that matter to her. she talks about her and william not taking things for granted, of the importance of living and being loved. i think with that film there are two things to say in terms of the words she says and how it looks. what she says is personal and intimate and from the heart and it's very much about how she's feeling the importance of family and then how it looks, it doesn't look like some of the normal films
4:36 pm
we have from the royal family, it's incredibly polished and professional and slick and again that clearly is the message they wanted to present. but within that, the additional factual detail of where she is in terms of her treatment. we now know _ in terms of her treatment. we now know that _ in terms of her treatment. - now know that she has finished what was described as the preventative course of chemotherapy, that she has been undergoing since february and march. that she is now in a period of time way although not being described as cancer free she is going to concentrate on no longer having treatment and trying to be restored to full health, a journey that she says will be a long path. in terms of her public life, we don't expect her to see carrying out anything like a full schedule of engagements. we have been told it will be a light schedule she returns to. she still has good and bad days and his staff won't commit to anything in particular. but i think we can expect to see her on remembrance sunday with the wider royal family and there are some plans afoot for her to
4:37 pm
attend events around christmas particularly an annual carol service she hosts at westminster abbey. service she hosts at westminsterabbey. but service she hosts at westminster abbey. but i think there is still an element of week by week.— there is still an element of week by week. there is still an element of weekb week. * ., ., ., week by week. and that would of course take _ week by week. and that would of course take us _ week by week. and that would of course take us around _ week by week. and that would of course take us around to - week by week. and that would of course take us around to almost| course take us around to almost a year. course take us around to almost a ear. . * , course take us around to almost a ear. ., * , ., , a year. that's right. it was in janua a year. that's right. it was in january she _ a year. that's right. it was in january she was _ a year. that's right. it was in january she was first - a year. that's right. it was in l january she was first admitted january she was first admitted to hospitalfor abdominal surgery. it was in march we saw that moving statement she made telling every body she had cancer. it's interesting comparing the statement from march where she stood talking to cameras and explaining what happened in the film we see today. both times very much catherine in her own words. she is managing the sun doing this on her own terms. i don't think she is taking lots of advice from lots of people around her, she is doing what's right for her and herfamily. the themes again and again and the people we talk to who know her, its family, family, family. that what has got her through. and
4:38 pm
thatis what has got her through. and that is very much the thing that is very much the thing that i think she would say has really helped her cope and navigate the difficult times she has had.— navigate the difficult times she has had. and it's not the first time _ she has had. and it's not the first time we _ she has had. and it's not the first time we are _ she has had. and it's not the first time we are seeing - she has had. and it's not the first time we are seeing or. first time we are seeing or seeing pictures from wimbledon so we have seen pictures of the princess but of course for a lot of time before that during all of the treatment she took away, took a self away from the spotlight. we away, took a self away from the s-uotliht. ~ ., ., , , spotlight. we have hardly seen her at all of — spotlight. we have hardly seen her at all of this _ spotlight. we have hardly seen her at all of this year _ spotlight. we have hardly seen her at all of this year and - her at all of this year and when we have seen its been very much in a managed situation. for example trooping the colour way she was with the wider family. the colour way she was with the widerfamily. that the colour way she was with the wider family. that was something that was very managed. again with wimbledon, she watched the men's final and had a standing event —— a vision on centre court. it was a managed engagement which she didn't have a lot of interaction with the public. so i think in terms of her diary things are going to be carefully looked at that there is a willingness on unease from her to get back to work as she put it and to be seen out
4:39 pm
particularly with some of her charities and some of the areas she is investing in. we charities and some of the areas she is investing in.— she is investing in. we will talk more _ she is investing in. we will talk more about _ she is investing in. we will talk more about the - she is investing in. we will i talk more about the potential schedule in a moment. but it's worth stating the obvious which is it has been a really tough yearfor is it has been a really tough year for the royal family. is it has been a really tough yearfor the royal family. king charles also receiving treatment and of course the put additional strain on other senior royals.— additional strain on other senior royals. that's right. it's been _ senior royals. that's right. it's been a _ senior royals. that's right. it's been a dreadful- senior royals. that's right. it's been a dreadful year. senior royals. that's right. | it's been a dreadful year for it's been a dreadful yearfor the royal family. the two cancer announcements pretty close to one another was a real blow in terms of their public face and what they were able to do and to remove the king and the princess of wales from that work for large periods of time this year has been difficult. but this is good news. we are going to start seeing more of her. it's the same for the king, we are told his treatment is ongoing but he's going to australia in october and to samoa to carry out a significant trip. again it's
4:40 pm
being viewed by his medical team that he is well enough to do that. so there is good news. so things look like they are improving as we look towards the end of the year. find improving as we look towards the end of the year. and within underlining _ the end of the year. and within underlining that _ the end of the year. and within underlining that the _ the end of the year. and within underlining that the likely - underlining that the likely schedule you were talking about very much focused on domestic engagements and perhaps very few domestic engagements in the phased return.— phased return. that's right. for the princess _ phased return. that's right. for the princess of - phased return. that's right. for the princess of wales, i for the princess of wales, prince william is going to south africa in november as part of it is with prize. she will not be going with him. the focus i think will be on the big set piece domestic events that she will take part in, perhaps with the wider royal family and support. but they are taking it a day at a time. she has good and bad days but there is clearly a need now to have some kind of managed return and a light schedule. all the time focused on their own full recovery. to all the time focused on their own full recovery.— all the time focused on their own full recovery. to stay with
4:41 pm
me but let's — own full recovery. to stay with me but let's stay _ own full recovery. to stay with me but let's stay with - own full recovery. to stay with me but let's stay with this - me but let's stay with this news that has come into us and let's speak to the professor of monarchy at city university in london. in terms of your reaction to what we have seen in the news has emerged. i hope you can hear me, i wasjust asking you for your reaction to what we have learned in the last ten minutes or so. clearly there is a problem with that line. we continue to see on the screen some of the images of this video and as you are saying it's incredibly intimate and personal with the family and personal with the family and different images edited together and it's of course the journey for all of the family.
4:42 pm
that's right. what's interesting is that they have chosen to go so public with these quite intimate and personal scenes from family life over the summer. they are a couple who have been very careful to protect the lives of the children but the children are right at the heart of this film that has been released on right at the heart of their mothers message about her cancerjourney in terms of their importance to her. it's clear that for the princess of wales she is evaluating everything in your life after this cancer diagnosis. she says in the voice—over in the film that it has made her come face—to—face with her own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before. and with a new perspective on everything. and i think she wanted this film to connect, i think it is why she wanted to include her husband and her children in it so that people could have a real understanding of what matters to her and what is important to her and she wanted to be on their own
4:43 pm
words. she wanted to be presented in a way she wanted with the words she wanted to say. in with the words she wanted to sa . , with the words she wanted to sa , , , ., ., say. in this statement and then the words _ say. in this statement and then the words she _ say. in this statement and then the words she uses _ say. in this statement and then the words she uses when - say. in this statement and then the words she uses when she i the words she uses when she talks about the cancerjourney and the coach uses is complex and the coach uses is complex and scary and unpredictable and i suppose many people who had to deal with cancer have a similar type of story. the unpredictability and the scariness of what they are having to endure and those around them.— around them. although the imaaes around them. although the images in _ around them. although the images in the _ around them. although the images in the film - around them. although the images in the film are - images in the film are incredibly glossy and the family look happy and quite perfect in many ways, her words tell a different story when you listen to what she's had to say. she is not sugar—coating her experience at all and i think the royal family are very conscious that there are now members of the cancer community. they've had an experience shared by so many others in the uk are they very conscious of the that. find
4:44 pm
others in the uk are they very conscious of the that.- conscious of the that. and for vafious conscious of the that. and for various cancer _ conscious of the that. and for various cancer charities, - conscious of the that. and for various cancer charities, they| various cancer charities, they have reflected over the months on just the openness of both those senior royals in terms of the journey. those senior royals in terms of thejourney. how much those senior royals in terms of the journey. how much of help is that terms of the wider public? and in terms of some of the messaging that hearing it from these two royals underlines? ., . ., , ., underlines? particularly from the kin: underlines? particularly from the king who _ underlines? particularly from the king who has _ underlines? particularly from the king who has himself- the king who has himself visited cancer survivors now and has been the hospitals. he knows his voice has power and that it hits home. what he is saying and making his experience shared experience with so many other people is extremely powerful and i think in terms of the princess, if you talk to many cancer charities about this phase of anybody*s recovery, it is important not to rush things post chemotherapy, to take your time. yes there is an eagerness to try and get life back to normal in some ways but i think
4:45 pm
the princess of wales is taking advice to take a time and ensure his schedule is light and carefully managed. i5 ensure his schedule is light and carefully managed. is there and carefully managed. is there any indication _ and carefully managed. is there any indication of _ and carefully managed. is there any indication of what _ and carefully managed. is there any indication of what they - any indication of what they mean when the palace's is not possible to describe the princesses cancer free at this stage and herjourney to full recovery will be long. what is your understanding between the lines of what that is trying to say? lines of what that is trying to sa ? ~ , , ., ., ., say? my understanding of that is at this stage _ say? my understanding of that is at this stage for _ say? my understanding of that is at this stage for the - is at this stage for the princess with chemotherapyjust having been finished that nobody can be described as cancer free at that stage whatever they cancer is. this is a longerjourney for everybody involved. so although the stage has been successful and has been completed and it's now over, they will obviously be ongoing tests and ongoing checks on the princess and she is not at the stage where anybody would describe it as cancer free. anybody would describe it as cancerfree. aha, anybody would describe it as cancer free.— anybody would describe it as cancer free. a quick reminder in terms _ cancer free. a quick reminder in terms of — cancer free. a quick reminder in terms of what _ cancer free. a quick reminder in terms of what we - cancer free. a quick reminder in terms of what we have - in terms of what we have learned about the scheduled return. forany learned about the scheduled return. for any viewers that didn't hear you ten or 15
