those backpacks they released. earlier, it was reported that the suspect had fled the scene and escaped in a car. that car was then stopped in martin county. and martin county sheriff william snyder explained what he saw. we have stopped the vehicle. we had the vehicle description, we had the vehicle description, we had a tag number. we mobilised on the interstate, picked up the vehicle, followed for a bit, able to contain using some of our bigger vehicles used

for specialised stops. since then, the fbi and secret service have responded to the scene. it does appear that we certainly had the vehicle involved in mar—a—lago and we have the suspect we were looking for. now the fbi and secret service will take over that investigation. what is the process with that? now you have identified this vehicle, did you take them into custody or is all going into the hands of the secret service and the fbi? we initially took him into custody until the arrival of the federal authorities. the search of the vehicle, looking for any weapons that may be in there, will now be up to the federal authorities and us attorney general. what was that like, stopping him? . know— you were looking for him, every law enforcement agency in the area was, what was that process like here in martin county? i missed the stop. i was on the way from the golf course. it was intense. we had a bolo. we knew we had to look out

for someone that opened fire. potentially a dangerous situation for our units, who were completely locked on, ready to go, had the vehicle fled, we would have stopped it. we were ready to engage. frankly because of good tactics, getting them out of the vehicle, coming back to us, we were able to stabilise the scene without any further banners. that was the martin county sheriff. we've also heard from vice president kamala harris. in a short statement, she said that she had been briefed on the incident. she has expressed relief over the safety of her opponent. she says, "violence has no place in america." former secret service agent barry donadio says law enforcement says he is getting different sets of information on the incident so far. i'v e i've heard two stories. i have heard we had shots potentially fired from outside the perimeter of the golf course

in custody. we don't know what the motive is as yet, but we understand that a weapon has been recovered, and we also understand that a go pro was sound our found at the scene which officials feel was being used or would have been used to film the incident. we understand that the weapon involved is an ak—1i7 style rifle which was found in the bushes, but i think one of the most striking lines that came out of that press conference was some detail that the individual was very near the former president, up to 500 yards away, which with that kind of weapon would have been not a noticeable distance away. jenny, we have been hearing from the former president and some of the individuals involved in this presidential

of high pressure building in from the south—west. it's centred more or less right over the uk as we head through monday, deflecting these low pressure systems out towards the north and the west. now, as we head into monday morning itself, there'll be some mist and fog, particularly for north—west england, south—west scotland, perhaps. it's milder towards the south with that legacy of cloud for a while. coolest out towards the north and the east, but a whole range of temperatures as we start off the day. now, the mist and the fog will readily lift and clear as we head through the morning, and there'll be plenty of sunshine around, lots of blue skies. high cloud turning the sunshine hazy at times. more of a breeze out towards the far south and the east. we could see one or two very isolated showers for kent, but it's still unlikely. more cloud for northern ireland later on through the day and temperatures in the high teens, the low 20s. 21 celsius for parts of central and eastern england — it's close to the seasonal average. and then on tuesday, well, we could see any mist and fog, really, across parts of yorkshire, lincolnshire, down through the east midlands, more of a north—easterly wind for east anglia, south—east england here and a bit more in the way of cloud for north—west scotland. but with a south—westerly
