going on in new york, as the un security council meets on the middle east situation. these are the live pictures. it's an emergency session of the council. nick will bring you the details shortly. first, almost a year ago on october 7th, people and sites across southern israel were attacked by hamas, proscribed as a terrorist organisation by multiple governments. one of their targets was a festival, the nova music festival, where thousands of young people had gathered for a rave. tomorrow a bbc storyville documentary gives a harrowing insight into the assault on those young people who came to dance, have fun and be with their friends. the footage you're about to see is very upsetting. using the testimony of survivors, cctv, and mobile phone videos, plus gopro footage from hamas, who were livestreaming, the film tells the stories of those

we will keep attacking and harming them everywhere. to do this, we are preparing to move. the sense is, your military boots, your manoeuvre boots, will enter enemy territory. your entry there — with force — will show them what it's like to meet a professional combat force. the escalating conflict has seen more than 2,000 israeli strikes in the last few days. lebanon says more than 72 people have died today. hezbollah fired a ballistic missile towards tel aviv, now there's fear at the un of all out war. let's talk to professor lina khatib who's the director of the middle east institute at soas, university of london... welcome to you. it is a ground invasion inevitable, do you think? not at all. even the statement we heard was possible, not definite. possible entry.— heard was possible, not definite. possible entry. exactly. let's hope di-loma possible entry. exactly. let's hope diplomacy stops — possible entry. exactly. let's hope

think the probability _ iran do, who back has below? i still think the probability of _ iran do, who back has below? i still think the probability of a _ iran do, who back has below? i sit ii think the probability of a ground invasion remains low because they are aware of the advantage has below would have in that scenario, whereas hezbollah does not have a tactical advantage when israel strikes by air or conduct security breaches like the ones we saw last week. iran is keeping out of this and it is because iran and hezbollah, actually, do not want the situation to become full—scale war. so what we're seeing is a war of attrition, both by israel and hezbollah, with israel definitely having the upper hand. in a way, i think militarily, it does not need a ground invasion to put a pressure on hezbollah. meanwhile, iran is watching all of this, hezbollah is its biggest asset in the region, it does not want hezbollah to be obliterated by israel and does not want itself to become a target either, and that is another reason why they are being very careful and limited even as
