11:57 am
and with the clearest of the skies, lightest of the winds still to the south east, temperatures away from the towns and cities could drop down into lower single figures. but another bright day to come here. any mist and fog clearing. in fact, a good day to come for much of england, wales. and indeed eastern scotland should see more sunshine develop, even if it's a little on the hazy side. but out in the west, the rain will turn heavier at times and more persistent and could fringe into the isles of scilly and cornwall later. temperatures fairly similar to what we'll see through this afternoon. now, through saturday night into sunday, that cloud and rain will gradually spread its way eastwards across the country. plenty of cloud. the first batch of heavy rain, though, fizzles as it works towards the eastern half of the country. but there'll be more showers following on later. so, compared with saturday, more of you can expect cloudier skies, occasional breaks, some brightness around. not going to rain all day long and brightening up in northern ireland later. but out in the west, some of the showers, though, could become heavy for a time during the second half of the day. temperatures similar to saturday's, perhaps a little bit breezier and, of course, less sunshine around. after that, what happens all depends next week on what's
11:58 am
happening with this. this is major hurricane kirk. it's over 3,000 miles away at the moment, but as it moves northwards and gradually decays, it will have an influence on our weather during the second half of the week. exactly what happens, still open to a question mark. one scenario could bring that storm towards us, bringing mainly rain, but also some strong winds around as well. but there is also other scenarios in which that system pushes further south across spain, france and portugal and leaves us in something a little bit less stormy, but also a good deal colder. we'll keep you updated.
