in the lebanese capital beirut, an israeli airstrike near a hospital is reported to have killed 13 people, including a child. the strike appeared to hit the car park of the rafik hariri university hospital, the country's biggest government—run hospital. lebanon's health ministry says another 57 people were injured. it's one of more than a dozen israeli strikes on southern beirut since monday evening. smoke has been rising near the city's international airport. israel has said it's hitting targets linked to hezbollah*s finances. it comes as the us secretary of state, antony blinken, touched down in israel for discussions aimed at reigniting ceasefire talks. let's speak to our correspondent in beirut, emir nader. we are getting more detail about this striking at the hospital. tell us what we know at the moment.—

efforts continue to try to find survivors and some of the casualties of that strike. yes, this is a very _ casualties of that strike. yes, this is a very residential- this is a very residential neighbourhood. the number of casualties is going up. it is around 13 deaths so far, including a child, and around 57 injured, including seven who were requiring surgery and are in a critical condition. colleagues on the ground said they saw two bodies being pulled from the rubble and whilst they were down there, and that is in addition to the 13 deaths that have already been announced. the condition on the ground, the first responders are still trying to pick through the rubble to see who might have been injured. and of course, the israeli government says it was not trying to target the hospital, but what do people in lebanon make of these developments? i think it feels like it is part

of a widening and escalation series of israeli air strikes here in lebanon, and including on targets in beirut. we have seenin on targets in beirut. we have seen in the past days israeli air strikes on military facilities, but also on the financial targets that the israeli army says are linked to hezbollah so it comes as part of this sense of a widening series of air strikes here in beirut. ., ~' , ., series of air strikes here in beirut. ., ,, i. series of air strikes here in beirut. ., ,, . ., beirut. thank you so much for brinuain beirut. thank you so much for bringing us — beirut. thank you so much for bringing us those _ beirut. thank you so much for bringing us those update - beirut. thank you so much for bringing us those update from beirut. our chief international correspondent, orla guerin, has been?taken on a tour of al sahel hospital in beirut where israel claims millions of dollars in cash and gold are kept in a hidden in a bunker.? well, we are on level minus two in the al sahel hospital. the area just behind me is where medical waste is stored. even that was opened up for us to have a look at,

the morgue was opened up, all of the drawers were opened to show us there was nothing inside. doctors have been opening piles of surgical scrubs, boxes of equipment, very, very keen to show us everything there is to see and to prove that there is nothing here. well, i'm just coming now from the basement on minus two up to minus one. we've been brought around the hospital by doctors. we've also been allowed to move around on our own. doors have been opened for us in every area, cupboards, we've been allowed to see what there is to see. now, the hospital staff are adamant that there is no hidden bunker here containing millions of dollars of cash or gold, as the israelis have claimed. they say this is just

a hospital where patients were being treated last night and where they had to be evacuated from the emergency area at great speed because doctors were worried for the lives of the patients and also worried for the staff. that was our senior international correspondent there. as concern about the humanitarian crisis in northern gaza grows, the us secretary of state anthony blinken has arrived in israel, where he's due to meeting prime minister netanyahu. mr blinken has released five priorities to try to end the conflict. firstly, to talk to israel and others about how to end the war in gaza — which includes bringing home all the israeli hostages. he will also discuss with israel a post—conflict "day after" plan. he wants to review humanitarian asissstance to gaza — this after the us gave israel 30 days to take steps or risk some military assistance being cut off. mr blinken wants to try to discuss ways to get

a resolution to the war with hezbollah. and he'll also discuss israel s expected retaliation against iran. continuing to work on a post conflict day after plan. bbc news correspondent jonah fisher has the latest from jerusalem. this is the 11th time antony blinken has come to the middle east since there war started just over a year ago, and the expectation is pretty low about what he can achieve on this trip. this diplomatic initiative came about following the killing of yahya sinwar last week in gaza. i think there was a feeling then amongst western countries in particular that that might provide possibly a window of opportunity to push again for negotiations to restart about a ceasefire, possible exchange of hostages. in the days that have followed since then, it has become pretty clear from the israeli side that they have military objectives that they still want to achieve, both in

gaza, where clashes have continued overnight, and in lebanon, where as you just heard, they have been continued strikes on beirut. so, what are they going to talk about when antony blinken meets with benjamin netanyahu in a couple of hours' time customer one topic they could touch on is what will be the situation in gaza after any agreement? who will govern it after there has been some sort of ceasefire agreement put in place? israel has made it clear that they don't want hamas to be in charge of gaza, but they haven't really put forward much of a vision as to what or whom might be there instead. one thing which could perhaps be a deliverable, something which was realistic for antony blinken to aim for on this trip, is trying to improve humanitarian access into gaza, as we have been reporting for the last few weeks, the

situation in northern gaza in particular is bleak with violence still continuing there in terms of strikes, but more so it being difficult for the amount of aid that is needed to get in. the united nations officials are warning that things are pretty atrocious there, so that might be something which antony blinken might push for today. mr blinken*s visit to the middle east comes after the white house said it is "deeply concerned" about the leak of a pair of highly classified intelligence documents describing israel's preparations for a retaliatory strike on iran. the documents appeared on telegram at the weekend, including satellite images and classified analysis. these are the latest pictures coming in from beirut. this is the scene in the capital right now. . ., ., . ., now. the aftermath of continued strikes in beirut. _ now. the aftermath of continued strikes in beirut. the _ now. the aftermath of continued strikes in beirut. the latest - strikes in beirut. the latest overnight, we understand,

specifically one outside the rafik hariri university hospital, which killed 13 people including a child. israel has been clear that it was not trying to target the hospital itself. in the last few minutes reporter restrictions have been lifted in the uk in the case of chris kaba who died after being shot by police. on monday a police officer was acquitted of murder at the old bailey. it can now be reported that kaba was a core member of one of the most dangerous gangs in london and was accused of being involved in two shootings less than a week before he was killed by a police marksman. we can now get more on this with our correspondence at the old bailey. just bring us up—to—date on what these reports are, and just tell us what is happening. well, we can tell you much more about chris kaba *s criminal

past full stop in the last few minutes, thejudge here has lifted or reporting restrictions in relation to chris kaba. during the trial involving martyn blake, who was found not guilty of murdering chris kaba, thejury did not hear any of this information. the only evidence given over the three weeks was that the car rafik hariri university hospital was driving on the night he was shot had been linked to a shooting the previous day in brixton —— mac the car that chris kaba was driving. the firearm had been recovered and the suspect had not been arrested. that's the only information that they heard. we can now tell you because the judge has heard. we can now tell you because thejudge has now lifted the ban which means we can tell you much more about chris kaba *s criminal past, he was facing an attempted murder charge in the months leading up to his death and he had been charged in relation to a shooting at a nightclub in east

london. there are three men currently injailfor london. there are three men currently in jail for that attack. it was alleged that chris kaba was the government. so, he was facing that attempted murder charge. we can also tell you that he was a key member of a gang in south london. that gang is a uk drill group, one of the most dangerous in south london and chris kaba was a core member of that gang. he also had previous convictions dating back to his early teens. all of this information is now coming into the public. there has been such a strong reaction to this story since we had the verdict here at the old bailey yesterday, the firearms officer martyn blake, he was acquitted of murder. he has now been reinstated back into the metropolitan police and his suspension was lifted. the metropolitan police commissioner defended the actions of martyn blake that night, and of the rest of the armed police team on the night

chris kaba was killed. however, he did address that they were aware of the concerns within some communities, particularly the black community, when we know that they have been questions over the treatment of certain members, many of chris kaba *s family and other activists say they feel failed by the system and they say that justice has not been served. so mark rowley is aware of that, and said they were working hard to repair the damage and the relationship. however, he was very clear that what martyn blake did that night, because martyn blake gave his evidence during this trial, saying that he had a genuine belief that his colleagues lives were in danger, and that is why he acted and that if he hadn't acted and that if he hadn't acted he would have failed in his duties as a firearms officer, and of course protecting the public. so, lots of reaction in the last 2a hours since the verdict, but a lot more coming out now about the criminal past of chris
