hello from the bbc sport centre. 13 wickets fell on the first day of the final test in rawalpindi between pakistan and england. england won the toss and chose to bat first but were bowled out for 267, every batter falling to spin. it could have been a lot worse without a half century from opener ben duckett and a barnstorming 89 from jamie smith that included six sixes in a century partnership with gus atkinson. joe root, ben stokes, ollie pope and harry brook all went cheaply. sajid khan took six wickets. pakistan closed on 73—3. i think it's a decent score, especially from the position we were in. anytime you are batting first, you have the luxury of the best conditions,

no doubt about that so it will be a tough first hour in the morning where we will look to take as many wickets as possible we could get to a point where the first innings is crucial. another really busy night of european football coming up, with europa league and uefa conference league matches, manchester united are still waiting for their first win and are unlikely to get an easy ride in istanbul against fenerbahce and their former managerjose mourinho. if things are not going amazingly well for them, it's not something that makes me happy. but at the same time, i have no time and it doesn't make sense for me to be thinking about what happened, what didn't happen. what happened, for sure, because it is very objective. they keep faith in the coach.

tottenham have won both their games in the europa league so far and host dutch side az alkmaar later. spurs didn't play in europe last season and are determined to give a good account of themselves. our ambitions are to do well in this competition, and where that takes us is kind of secondary to us trying to do well in the europa league. we missed europe last year as a club comic when you are in there it is important you make an impact, so that is where the ambitions lie. lots of other matches on thursday, roma will meet dynamo kyiv — both sides looking for theirfirst win, olympique lyonnais will look to maintain their 100 percent record against besiktas, so too lazio at twente, and rangers face fcsb in glasgow, the romanians have also won their first two matches.

many parts of the uk will continue to see some spells of sunshine through this afternoon. it's been a glorious start to the day here in marple on the canals, right by toplock, if i'm not mistaken. and for many of us, we will keep these bright skies through the rest of the day. however, we do have an area of cloud just to our west. this is a weather front with a new area of low pressure just starting to form here. over the next few days, this area of low pressure is going to deepen as we go through friday before disintegrating as we head into the weekend, all whilst barely moving. it will, though, still be close enough to influence our weather picture, as we'll see in a moment. now, through the rest of the afternoon, most of us will keep the sunshine across england and wales, turning quite cloudy, though, for south—west england, western parts of wales, for northern ireland and scotland with cloud varying. there will be some bright or sunny spells coming through at times, and wherever you are we are looking at a mild day, top temperatures up to 17 degrees. overnight as that area of low pressure forms to our southwest, it will throw a band of rain into south—west england, wales and northern ireland too.
2:57 pm
at the same time, we'll have some low cloud and some drizzle forming across parts of north—east england and south—east scotland, and with that probably some hill fog patches. so for some, quite a murky start to the day on friday with extensive low cloud around. this band of rain across northern ireland, wales, south—west england becomes quite slow moving, just slowly drifts into the midlands and southeast england. but by this stage it's very weak so barely any rain left on it. quite windy conditions for the far south—west of england. otherwise the winds not particularly strong. heading into saturday, that area of low pressure starts to die away. now, for most of the country there'll be bright or sunny spells, potentially a bit of rain for east anglia and south—east england, and there certainly will be a band of rain moving into west scotland, northern ireland with strengthening winds for these areas as we go through saturday afternoon. but overall, it's not a bad kind of start to the weekend for many. into sunday, a ridge of high pressure for england and wales, so plenty of sunshine after a chilly start to the day.
2:58 pm
should see some sunshine for scotland and northern ireland, but into the afternoon it tends to turn cloudy with some showers or some longer spells of rain whilst the weather starts to turn cooler across northern areas. temperatures around 11 to 13 degrees into next week. eventually high pressure builds in, but we may well see quite a bit of cloud around at times and some quite chilly mornings as well.
