"but i'm really proud too. "time to exit one dream bubble. "time to enter a new one. big love." earlier, i spoke to our rugby union correspondent chrisjones, who told me the news wasn't too much of a shock. nnot a surprise, age 3a, 95 caps, the last few years it has felt like every cap he has one has been a bonus because he has retired from international rugby before and has been honest about how hard he finds it going away from his family for long period of time in camp. it is fitting that this week, his final week as an england player, he was embroiled in a controversy with his comments about the haka, always a colourful character, marler and despite the

controversies over the air, controversies over the years, he will be remembered as a highly inspected team—mates and opponents, and a fantastic prop, one of england's great all—time great front row players, almost a century of caps, perhaps unlucky not to be a test lion, so he can reflect on the job extremely well done. even though he was not playing against the all blacks yesterday, that agonising defeat for england, you wonder if you've he had been on the pitch on the end we have been to lock up that scrum and give george floyd scrum and give george the perfect platform, but as you said to my sadness that this is overjoe marler, and pride, a wonderful career, one of england's best to do it in the front row. england's katie boulter has lost in straight sets to top seed diana shnaider in the final of the hong kong open. the british number one was hoping to win a third tour

7:44 pm
the second one to win the series was more special. we spoke about coming here and trying to adapt as much as we can. to be in this position, 3—0 in the series. i will never forget it. that's just about it for us here on sportsday — a reminder, in the football — spurs beat aston villa comfortably earlier — and mancheser utd drew with chelsea. and it's pastures new at old trafford. friday afternoon saw the appointment of ruben amorim as manchester united's new permanent head coach. he'll take charge a week tomorrow, as clubs across europe head for the next international break, meaning he'll manage the portuguese champions sporting for two more games before his departure. amorim arrived there in 2020, when the club had gone 19 years without winning the league title, but he changed all that in his first season. bbc sport has been to lisbon to find out more about the 39 year old's journey in coaching. and to answer the question, "who is ruben amorim?" what did you know before this week about ruben amorim? anything? no, ididn't. i've never heard of him. no.
7:45 pm
what he did with sporting, i believe he can do with other teams. he takes the players that he has and he improves them. i think the job is too big for him at the moment. i don't think he's got enough experience. the way he work is. absolutely amazing. i don't think he's the right man for thejob because ijust think someone looks good in portugal league, but they might not translate to being good in england. like, we're a toughest league in the world. i love this man, and now i'm like lost a husband. i'm sad. he is a great coach and he's worthy of being in any club. j if you see him in the pitch with the team, it's amazing how you feel that he is able to grab everybody.
7:46 pm
ruben is the second "special one". after sir alex, the difficult decade — five permanent managers have now come and gone. for manchester united, it's the latest new era. ruben amorim is 39 years old, this club's youngest head coach since wilf mcguinness in the 605. but up to now, amorim has only coached at home. this is his firstjob away from portugal, and old trafford is quite the distance from the place where it started. translation: ruben amorim was a kid here in our training. | this club has a lot of honour that part of his character and his growth as a man was formed here.
7:47 pm
he was a very wise young man, very hard working. he was a very intelligent player and understood the game well from a tactical point of view. i have good memories of ruben, of his debut in the first team. i think it was very clear since he was young that although he was not the leader of the club, those who were here in the stands watching games realised that on the field he was an extension of the coach. perhaps he was one step ahead of the others because ruben was not an exceptional player, but i think he was able to assert himself by the intelligence with which he moved on the field and the way he tactically understood the game for a very young age. ruben used to play here, but during that period we knew that the club of his heart was benfica. i believe that at that time, his transfer to benfica was something that made him and his family very happy.
7:48 pm
at 23, amorim moved to benfica, a club he knew already from his days in their academy. in those youth teams alongside him was pedro russiano. this is ruben and this is me. he was the winger — amorim played in the middle. ruben, it's a very good person. it's an amazing person. it's funny, very fun, friendly. we start to play 33 years ago on benfica school. ruben is a midfielder and it's a very aggressive player, very aggressive. it's one characteristic of them, is aggressive and the fighting all the balls. he put the power of the team. this is a special quality of them and very smart player. amorim's career went on to braga in a loan spell. in the champions league that year, they faced manchester united. jonny evans scored,
7:49 pm
united won 3—2. amorim eventually would be back at old trafford, but to find his way in coaching, he went to study how it's done. his playing career ended in 2017 and at the university of lisbon, antonio veloso was his tutor. he was just standing his football, his player career, and he was as already highly committed to learn and he demonstrated from scratch a very good capability of interaction, of leadership, of communication. he uses ideas that comes from all the top coaches that he's always observing. of course, when you do that and you mix, it's like a very good chef. yeah, you took ideas from different recipes, but you do a very good plate. and at the end of the day, the result is his. he got his chance in coaching at casa pia, the forgotten club in lisbon, who played in
7:50 pm
the third division. amorim, at this point, was stilljust an apprentice, but the 1a caps he won for his country had opened the first door. translation: six years ago, the sporting director - of casa pia, carlos perez, came up to me and said, "we have ruben here. "he played for benfica and was an international with portugal. "he wants to do an internship here at casa pia". because ruben lived close to the stadium. so he asked me if i had any objections. no, he was welcome. he had played for his country, so a good atmosphere was created around all this, but also a demanding environment because ruben is very demanding in terms of he doesn't like to lose. and the locker room was with him. everyone has to be together to win, and whoever doesn't want to make an effort and fight for the group has a problem. ruben ended up leaving the club. that's the saddest memory
7:51 pm
of ruben's presence. the day he left casa pia. he went to the dressing room. he explained that he had to leave because of what was happening. some players even cried. so that was the last image i had of ruben. ruben is the same. ruben is casa pia's, ruben, braga's ruben, sporting's ruben, and he'll be united's ruben. as a coach, the most important thing for him is to get a close relationship with his players. you want to play good and you want to win, win, win, win, and he put this on these players so he's focussed on the present. he go something like two hours before the training. after the training, he stayed there. he stayed more time right now in sporting, more time
7:52 pm
in academia, than in his house with his family. and just like that, he can have the success that he is having now. so from casa pia, it started like this. what i see now in sporting, i saw with me in casa pia. he left casa pia and waited nine months for the nextjob. that was with braga's reserves, but then things happened quickly. within three months, he was in charge of the first team, and wins against bigger clubs meant sporting saw promise. they paid ten euros million to bring him back to lisbon. it had been 19 years since they last won the title, but in ruben amorim they had the coach who brought change. when it comes to sporting, sporting, you have a crisis. and when it comes to us, it's the light, it looks like for us like a light, like a hope. he made something in our club that we never seen before. he created a great atmosphere.
7:53 pm
he created a good team spirit. in four years at sporting, he's won the league twice. amorim has been linked with barcelona, bayern munich, liverpool and west ham. but the club who made the deal were manchester united. now, he takes over from erik ten hag. when he joined the club, he was a three—time dutch champion. so how is amorim different to the last coach? translation: the big question is whether ruben's work - and his system can transfer to the premier league. i think that ruben is so intelligent that i think he will have the necessary skills to adapt and be able to implement his system at manchester united. i think he will have that ability, and that manchester united will improve a lot. i believe in that.
7:54 pm
he put our team to play to start the system 3—4—3, like a system, different system and to put our team to play very well. and when we take this casa pia, we put the casa pia in first position and we start to understand the ruben is the second "special one". ruben amorim is the best coach i've ever seen in my life. - i love him so much. i'm very sad. but this is the life of football. - i love this man. and now i'm like lost an husband. i'm sad. very sad. ruben amorim was the main reason for our club to come back from where it was down under, and we were having a rough time, and he was the main beacon of hope for all of us. thank you. can i just ask you what you like about the premier league in general? everything. for, ruben amorim, the next
7:55 pm
step is a new league and a new country. at sporting, he's the man who brought the end to a long wait. now at manchester united, the aim is the same. hello there. much of the country saw another cloudy day today, with the best of the sunshine, which was limited across the northeast of scotland. but this upcoming week will remain grey and gloomy thanks to high pressure, patchy fog and also some drizzle in places. what you will notice by the end of the week, we pick up stronger southerly winds and it will turn milder, and hopefully we should start to see a little bit more sunshine. but the benign weather continues thanks to this area of high pressure, blankets of cloud across the country overnight, some spots of drizzle, some mist and fog, too. where we have clearer skies, though, across the north of scotland, temperatures will drop into the low single digits, and that may also allow
7:56 pm
some mist and fog patches to form here, too. but where we have the cloud, generally 5—10 degrees. so we start monday morning off on a grey, gloomy note. some early mist and fog should tend to lift into low cloud. again, we could see some sunshine across northern scotland, maybe northern and western wales, but i think the vast majority holding on to the cloud, seeing those temperatures again 12—14 degrees. as we move through monday night, there's little change, we hold on to a lot of cloud. so that blankets in the temperatures — falling much below 6—10 celsius. a few clear spells here and there may allow temperatures to fall into low single digits, with some mist and fog forming. so as we head into tuesday, then, we've still got our area of high pressure, but some subtle wind changes. we're starting to pick up more of a southerly as low pressure begins to squeeze up against us from the west. so stronger winds, i think, through the irish sea into northern ireland. that may break up the clouds a bit for western wales, perhaps into northern ireland, western scotland, northern scotland could see some sunshine as well, some shelter from the southerly breeze, but i think large parts
7:57 pm
of southern scotland and most of england will stay rather grey once again — temperatures into the mid—teens. as we push in towards the middle part of the week, winds pick up further across western areas, but we're starting to drag up some warmer airfrom the azores, so that will be noticeable. given any sunshine, we could be into the high teens, so pretty warm for the time of year, but again on wednesday most places will be rather grey and gloomy. but through the afternoon, with that breeze picking up from the south, we could see some sunnier moments across northern and western areas, so 16 or 17 degrees, maybe 18 degrees in the warmest spots, where we have the thickest of the cloud, generally the mid—teens. little change as we head in towards the end of the week. best of the sunshine across sheltered northern areas. most places staying cloudy.
