straight to the us — where donald trump is wasting no time after tuesday's stunning election win — as he prepares to select his new cabinet. among those, who could get a seniorjob, afterjanuary*s inauguration, is the world's richest man, elon musk. meanwhile, president biden is due to give his first comments on camera since tuesday's defeat, in about an hour. kamala harris strode onto the stage smiling through a crushing defeat and insisting her cause will continue. on the campaign i would often say, when we fight, we win. but here's the thing. here is the thing. sometimes the fight takes a while. that doesn't mean we won't win. cheering that doesn't mean we won't win. but the democratic party is on its way out of the white house. presidentjoe biden will

address the nation today as he prepares to hand over power to this man, donald trump, posing for what is not quite a family photo. there is tech billionaire elon musk, a major donor and promoter of donald trump. now touted for a role in the president elect*s team. the future is going to be amazing. these stands are being put up for donald trump's inauguration injanuary, but when he lost the election four years ago he refused to concede defeat and his supporters stormed congress. this time the transfer of power looks set to be more routine and when donald trump does get the keys to the white house, he will really know his way around. it's a prospect that frightens his opponents but excites his supporters.

what's so great about a trump win is everybody wins. the economy is booming today, the stock market is up. all boats float. i mean, trump has a great game plan. from what he says, i hope he sticks to it and we will see a greater america. donald trump's white house return will make history. he will be the first convicted felon to serve as president after a jury found he'd falsified business records. but that and other criminal allegations didn't end his political career, far from it. this was his first inauguration. second time around, donald trump looks to be more powerful than ever. jessica parker, bbc news in washington, dc. let's speak to our correspodent will grant in florida. i mentioned elon musk, so take me through some of the other names being considered by donald trump. he

consequences for cuba and venezuela where he would potentially tighten sanctions and also for ukraine where he is not in favour of extending any further monetary aid. we are seeing — any further monetary aid. we are seeing pictures of marco rubio, so all of those names fascinating to see who actually emerges, but the keyjob of secretary of state, mike pompeo, a previous secretary of state, how likely is that? distinctly in the mix, mike pompeo is one of the names and so is robert o'brien, donald trump's last national security adviser, they have maintained good relations throughout, so there's a possibility that he could be there. trump has had fractured relations with a lot of people who have been through his administration but there are possibilities including a

senator from tennessee as well so we are going to have to see the shape of his administration and we will get a better idea over the next couple of days. i would not be surprised if he takes his time, to be honest. this has been a breakneck campaign and i suspect he is taking a moment and then it would be into the full business of readying himself and his team for government. within the next hour we _ team for government. within the next hour we are _ team for government. within the next hour we are expecting - team for government. within the next hour we are expecting to . next hour we are expecting to hear the first time on camera of the president at the white house, that is likely to be a moment? it house, that is likely to be a moment?— house, that is likely to be a moment? , ~ ., .., moment? it is. we saw kamala harris's concession _ moment? it is. we saw kamala harris's concession speech, - moment? it is. we saw kamala harris's concession speech, the day after it was clear she had lost, and she spoke about not giving up the fight, while conceding the election, but not conceding the election, but not

conceding the election, but not conceding the principles of the platform itself, the campaign platform. i suspect we will see something equally gracious from president biden because the democratic ticket last badly, and there's lots of questions about what could have been done differently, could he have stepped aside early and made it clear right the way through he was only going to be a one term president and step aside for younger leadership and allowed a primary to take place? he will not get into any of that and i think he will make it clear that this could be a moment of reconciliation and grant president elect to trump the courtesies he was not granted himself when he beat him in 2020, that is making the transition smooth and of course attending the handing over ceremony. attending the handing over ceremony-— attending the handing over ceremon. . ., ., ceremony. thanks for “oining us. as the full election post mortem begins, we wanted to find out what voters thought, so we asked americans who are visiting washington

from all over the states. i think that there's this average american that feels abandoned by the glamour, by, you know, beyonce performing at rallies and things like that. that's not what i care about. like, i care about like, how can i afford a home one day or how can i, you know, afford to have children one day? folks never really got an understanding of what was different about harris versus biden. the democratic party is very focussed on a lot of issues l that seem to be for upper class, like transgender- issues, abortion. she was a woman of colour, and i think that scares a lot of people. they don't like to, unfortunately, they don't like the idea of a woman being in charge. a lot of the things she wanted to change, people thought they were broken because of, like, hervice presidency and biden's presidency to begin with. her message — there was really nothing there. - i think a lot of people were trying to see if they can, you know, know her.
3:09 pm
but there was not enough time for people to actually know who she really was. trump won the election because i think what a lot of americans are looking for to fix the united states is the economy. we have so much division in the country and peoplei weren't, ithink, readyi to choose a woman for president, especially a woman of colour. i trump won because people had the opportunity to see what happened the last four years. and then what happened when trump was president. trump won, probably in part because joe biden delayed his decision too long. i believe trump won mainly because, uh, the economyl is in shambles right now. it looks more like the economy was a major priority. and that's why i think he won. at the end of the day someone just wants to focus on having enough money to pay their bills, get groceries. it's as simple as that. a snapshot of use there. —— views.

we will answer your questions later on, in terms of what issues are going to face the new donald trump administration. let us know your questions. nato secretary general, mark rutte, says he hopes that america's allies will be able to work together with donald trump. he made the commentjust before a summit of european leaders who are discussing the security of the continent. mr rutte expressed particular concern over russia enlisting north korea's help in the war in ukraine. one of the things they are doing is delivering technology to north korea, which is now threatening the in the future, the mainland of the us, continental europe, but also our partners in the indo—pacific, japan, for example, and the republic of korea.

so these are really dangerous new developments, and we need to discuss that today. but i also look forward to sitting down with president trump and to navigate how collectively, we will make sure that we face this threat and that we keep our part of the world safe. the ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky is attending the summit in budapest. i'm joined by the former president, petro poroshenko. thanks forjoining us. how worried are you about the election of donald trump when it comes to the continued support from the us to ukraine? thank you very much for the invitation in this very decisive moment for ukraine and the whole world. first of all, this is the respectful choice of the american people, because me as ukrainian president, all

i'm absolutely confident. it was trump as president who delivered to me as the ukrainian president the first lethal weapons including the javelin system, that was the first, after the russians attacked nord stream so, that is why i know donald trump. we showed the pictures of you and him in the white house. we are a few months away from the inauguration, so what would your appeal tojoe biden be in the remaining two months as we are talking now, whether it comes to the support they are still pledging to ukraine or whether it comes about the change of roles of how you are allowed to use the weapons? —— rules. i allowed to use the weapons? -- rules. ., ., , ,, , rules. i want to express my sincere gratitude _ rules. i want to express my sincere gratitude to - rules. i want to express my i sincere gratitude to president biden and to all the democratic

administration for their enormous support. after 2022, this has been extremely important, and second, we think this is in the hands of president biden to give us the permission to use the long—range weapons against a legitimate target on the russian territory, that would make the ukrainian situation significantly easier. third, that we can fulfil the supplies in ukraine, weapons, shells, or necessary equipment, to make the ukrainian armed forces stronger, because we can finish the war, and we will not only be a nato member, but also when the ukrainian armed forces will demonstrate that the vladimir putin scenario to have a
