rivals — we'll bring you the latest from the premier league. the end of an era, as the manx missile retires from professional cycling. and a fairy tale win for the world number 229, at golf*s lucrative abu dhabi championship. hello. lots of sport for you, and it's been quite a day in the premier league — let's start with chelsea v arsenal. the late kick—off between the london clubs ended in a 1—1 draw — the perfect result for their title rivals. but the game was far from dreary, with plenty of action. gabriel martinelli scored first for arsenal, and chelsea's pedro neto cancelled it out. the result moves both sides up a place, to third and fourth

respectively — the first time chelsea have been so far up the table for two and a half years. it is the way we want to do things, as you said, try to play face—to—face against every team. we are chelsea so i think it is important also to send this kind of message, knowing that there are clubs, as i said many times, working with the same manager five years, nine years, so we are in behind of them for sure, but in terms of go for the game and try to win, i said many times we are chelsea and we are to do that. i am very disappointed and very proud as well with what i've seen from the team again. it was the most difficult to score _ it was the most difficult to score the first goal. very disappointed with the way we conceded. defensive habits are nowhere near. they have the quality, if you give them the space to punish you, but then the team reacts in a way that was fabulous, the desire

to win, to be so dominant, so much struggle, we didn't manage to score the goals. that is why we are disappointed. staying in the english premier league, and this man was watching his beloved ipswich town earlier, in another part of london, as they won their first match in the league since promotion at the end of last season. it was, of course, ipswich fan ed sheeran, who saw them beat tottenham away, and as they've been out of the top flight for so long, it's their first premier league win for 22 yea rs. ipswich were 2—0 up at half—time, after goals from sammie szmodics and liam delap. rodrigo bentancur gave the home fans some hope with a consolation goal, but it stayed 2—1, which moves ipwsich out of the relegation zone. the players are delighted. they know this is a win to cherish out of the context of this rest of the season anyway but they also know where we want to get to as a football club is winning games in the premier league, and there has been

a big, bigjourney to get this point. we know the season will be a challenge but that is where we want to build the football club to, everyone is pretty delighted about today. there were celebrations at old trafford, where manchester united had their biggest win of the season at home to leicester. bruno fernandes starred in the 3—0 victory, his 250th game for united, scoring and setting up their third. the result means it's three wins out of four for ruud van nistelrooy, his last game in temporary charge before ruben amorim arrives tomorrow as their new manager. i have to say, the whole team were together, they thought, did everything they could, did everything they could, and that is the journey and that is the journey we started four games ago. we started four games ago. we tried to before the four we tried to before the four games, we say to each games, we say to each other let's make the most other let's make the most of it, let's get the maximum of it, let's get the maximum out of each other, and the most out of each other, and the most results possible, and i think results possible, and i think we did make a job. we did make a job. we felt like we were always we felt like we were always

in the game, in terms of it in the game, in terms of it didn't feel like there was one team that was definitely going to score the next goal, it was pretty even i think throughout the whole game. but when it got to definitive moments, they've shown more desire to score and stop us scoring than what we have. and in the end that is what has cost us the result and the scoreline. in the day's other game, newcastle came from a goal down to beat nottingham forest, 3—1.

liverpool, 3—0 away. mayra ramirez, guro reiten and substitute aggie beever—jones the scorers. the victory means chelsea's sonia bompastor is the first manager in the wsl to win their opening four away games. really pleased, really happy with the performance, and the result. we keep a really good dynamic at the moment, great performance as well. i think we started a little bit slowly as usual in the game, but i think if you look at the whole picture, we controlled the game and we were able to be efficient in the right moments. elsewhere, everton are off the foot of the table, after drawing with crystal palace, but are still yet to record a victory. west ham claimed their first wsl win since february, with a narrow win over leicester. man united vs villa was goalless.

on to the weekend's rugby union internationals, and wales' long run of defeats is now up to ten, equalling their worst record, after they were beaten at home to fiji today. wales, who haven't won a test match for over a year, took the lead early on, after blair murray scored a try on his debut. and they built on that lead to go 14—10 up at half—time. but they couldn't hold on in cardiff. fiji were too strong for them, and went on to win it, 24—19, theirfirst victory in wales. the pressure doesn't come. it comes externally, it comes basically from the media because that is a narrative you create, and that's ok from where i sit. you would have to take... i honestly believe, and we have said for the last 12 months since the world cup, in terms of the number of players and the experience that we've lost since the world cup, we are going to invest in a group of youngsters that we felt we can build, but i understand test match rugby is about performing and about winning. you control the narrative and write what you want.

superstars. most of those racing today were still at school when cavendish won his first tour de france stage in 2008 so perhaps a certain amount of respect as the manx missile launched himself towards the finish line, one final effort to feel that winning feeling one last time. i'm quite emotional actually. i realised in the last five laps was the last 15 kilometres of my career, but i really wanted to finish. i'm so proud to win my last professional race. after so many comebacks, this really is cavendish's last podium appearance as a rider, although he wants to stay in sport he loves, so maybe this isn't quite goodbye, but it has certainly been emotional. on to tennis, and danill medvedev twice threw his racket, smashed it, and broke a microphone in his opening match defeat at the atp finals in italy. medvedev*s american opponent, taylor fritz, kept his cool in turin, beating the world number four in straight sets. it was fritz*s 50th win of the season.
