hello from the bbc sport centre. ruben amorim is now officially the manager of manchester united after bidding farewell to the portuguese league in style last night. his sporting side came from 2—0 down to beat braga 4—2 in amorim's final game in charge. he's due to fly in to manchester at some point today, but can't properly begin work until he gets his visa. amorim says interim boss ruud van nistelrooy did a great job and he'll be talking to him about his future role with the club when he gets to old trafford. i feel ready for the new challenge. i'm not naive, i

know it is going to be very different, very tough, but i feel that i am ready. i am at peace now. i can focus on my newjob peace now. i can focus on my new job and peace now. i can focus on my newjob and i'm looking forward to start. la liga leaders barcelona suffered their second league defeat of the season, with teenage spain star lamine yamal still missing through injury. barca are now six points clear at the top of the table with reigning champions real madrid in second with a game in hand after going down 1—0 at real sociedad. sheraldo becker's first—half effort proved decisive for the hosts. robert lewandowski had a first—half effort controversially ruled out for offside for barca. isaid i said only to him it was a goal, it was the wrong decision, it was not offside. it was not his fault. we have to accept it. of course, if it

is 1—0 to us it is a different match. but in the end, what can i say? it was not our day. england are 2—0 up in the t20 series against west indies after a seven wicket win in barbados. england captainjos buttler hit a blistering 83 from 45 balls, sharing a great stand with opener willjacks, to do most of the damage. they went on to overhaul the hosts* 158—8 with 31 balls to spare. india head coach gautam gambhir has hit out at former australia captain ricky ponting ahead of india's trip to australia for the border—gavaskar trophy. ponting has criticised india's virat kohli, who has been out of form in recent times. the australian said that any other player wouldn't have survived in the team had he scored just two hundreds in five years. what ricky ponting has to do with indian cricket, he should think about australian cricket.
11:48 am
we have no concerns about virat kohli. they have achieved a lot and they will achieve a lot in future as well. they still work really hard, they are still passionate and want to achieve a lot more and that is something that is very important. the hunger in the dressing room is very important for me and that entire group of people. ifeel there is a lot of hunger in the dressing room, especially after what happened in the last series. in a few hours* time, spain's carlos alcaraz will play norwegian casper ruud on day two of this year's atp finals in italy. also in action after that are german second seed alexander zverev and andrey rublev, following american taylor fritz*s 6—4 6—3 win over daniil medvedev on day one. world number one jannik sinner was also victorious in the first round, overcoming australia's alex de minaur in straight sets. i feel like every match is very difficult to play against him.
11:49 am
he is a great fighter, you have to earn every point you play. i still feel like that every time we play, he changes a couple of things so i have to be very aware. it is very difficult. the denver nuggets extended their winning streak to five straight games by beating the dallas mavericks. the game went down to the wire, but a brilliant, history—making performance from nikola jokic secured the win for denver 122 to 120. the three time mvp made his case for another one with a dominant line of 37 points, 18 rebounds, and 15 assists — numbers no other player has achieved in nba history. from nikola jokic to nikola jovic, who came off the bench to score the winning points for the miami heat as they beat the minnesota timberwolves 95—94. his foul shot with under eight seconds to play was the difference for miami, who raise their record to 4—5.

the kansas city chiefs narrowly maintained their perfect season with a last—gasp win over denver broncos. the broncos had led until the tenth minute of the last quarter, then had a field goal attempt in the dying seconds to snatch victory. but it was blocked by last year's super bowl champions, who won 16—14 and now have nine wins from nine this season. american golfer austin eckroat won his second pga tour title of the year on sunday. he shot a final—round 63 to finish top at the worldwide technology championship, with six birdies on the first nine holes. although he bogeyed the 18th, he finished 24—under, one shot ahead ofjustin lower and carson young. the biggest next step would be to win a major. obviously on top of that making the ryder cup next season would be a huge goal of mine. i still haven't made it to the pure

championship, so that would be an awesome cherry on top of a great season. yes, probably those are the main goals going into next season. and that's all the sport for now. we will return to our special armistice day coverage. sir keir starmer has become the first british prime minister to attend the ceremony in paris since winston churchill during the second world war. he and president macron laid a wreath at the winston churchill statue in paris. meetings ahead of the special events today where they were marking and paying tribute, commemorating

armistice day with a drive around seeing the troops, british and french troops around the arc de triomphe. we have had a communique from the french president on this meeting today. this is the first time in 80 years that a british leader has been in french on armistice day. the last time around was when sir winston churchill commemorated the day with charles de gaulle. before all of this the cheerleaders had met earlier on and they have just issued a statement saying that during the meeting they discussed major international issues following on from the messages that were delivered at the summit of the european political community in hungary. the french president stressed the need to address the needs of europeans in security and defence. they discussed the prospect of a relationship
11:53 am
between the european union and the united kingdom. we know after the general election in the uk sir keir starmer said he wanted to reset the uk's relationship with the eu, so the french presidentjust remarking on that. they discuss the ongoing concern with ukraine following russia full scale invasion in 2022. the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to coordinate closely, stressing the determination to support ukraine unwaveringly and for as long as necessary to thwart russia's war of aggression. just to add, they also apparently took stock of the situation in the middle east and indicated their willingness to continue their efforts with all regional and international partners to work towards the return of peace and security. so the british prime minister leaving france and he is on his way to baku in azerbaijan. of

course, today we saw the opening of cop29. the leader of the two—day conference is warned that we are on the road to ruin. the un has won 30,024 will be the hottest year on record. so it's going to go on for two weeks. already people are arriving today. you can see i'm behind the main plenary hall where proceedings kicked off this morning. it's very busy. lots of delegates, lots of ngos here. the main topic of conversation on the table is climate finance. so you may remember a few years ago developed or richer countries committed to giving $100 billion by 2020 to poorer nations to help them prepare for climate change. well, that target needs updating and it could considerably increase at the moment. in the draft text, we're
11:55 am
looking at figures one trillion, $2 trillion and developing nations are saying we need more money because the impacts of climate change are really ramping up, not change are really ramping up. even before cop 29 kicked off, it was embroiled in controversy given that a senior cop 29 official was apparently using his role within cop 29 to discuss potential fossil fuel deals. yes, it casts somewhat of a shadow over proceedings before it even started. you'll remember last year the same similar situation happened with the uae, which was being hosted or led by a president who previously also worked for their state oil firm. now, there's been questions before, from ngos and from civil society whether such countries should host these conferences. but the argument against that is that every year a different country hosts cop, and that this is a united nations event and that every country should participate. countries like azerbaijan will argue that most of their oil and gas exports actually go to the european union. so if richer nations really want to see action on climate change, it's not that they should stop producing it, but really these countries
11:56 am
should stop demanding it. the un wants every country to participate, but when it comes to significant world leaders, a lot of them are not there. yeah, exactly. this comes at a time when there's a lot of turmoil politically in a lot of countries. of course, biden is not here following last week's election in the us we also know that german leaders are not here because of the turmoil that they're facing politically as well. but there are also new countries that we haven't seen before. so the taliban government are here for the first time. this is their first major conference. but actually, i've been talking with a lot of delegates here who are saying it's not just about world leaders turning up, it's about all countries participating and about the negotiating teams being at the table. this is one of the few spaces in the world where warring countries actually all end up in one room. and they say this is really important, absolutely fundamental to getting action on climate change.
11:57 am

11:58 am
see a touch of frost. tomorrow, high pressure continues to dominate our weather. there's not much wind around to move the fog, which will be slow to clear, more especially across northern ireland. we hang on to the showers coming in on the breeze across east anglia and the south—east, but for most it's going to be a dry day with sunny spells and temperatures eight in glasgow to about 12 in saint helier. you can see all this cloud waiting in the wings. that's this weather front which is going to sink southwards during the course of wednesday. it's bumping into high pressure, it's weakening all the time and it will produce this band of cloud. patchy light rain in scotland, getting into northern ireland and later into northern england. ahead of it some sunny skies. there will be some patchy mist and fog to clear and behind it it will brighten up for a time, with our temperatures ten to about 13 degrees. into thursday, mist and fog to start with. a bit more cloud around than on wednesday. there will be sunshine in the
11:59 am
northern half of the country. cloud coming into the far north later as another weather front approaches. these are the temperatures — ten to 12 degrees north to south. beyond that, as this weather front sinks south, here it is. here you can see the change in the air mass. so we've got the milder yellows and ambers. they're going to be replaced as we head into the weekend by the cooler blues sweeping southwards across the country. when live from london, this is bbc news. this year is on track to be the hottest on record, thatis to be the hottest on record, that is the un warning as cop29 gets under way in azerbaijan.
12:00 pm
we're going to ruin, but are not the future problems. climate change is already here. as a start, donald trump, —— as the summit starts, donald trump, and climate change sceptic has been re—elected. gathering to mark armistice day. the british prime minister attended armistice day ceremonies in paris. donald trump has spoken to president putin saying speculation of the media is pure fiction. welcome to bbc news now, three hours of fast—moving news interviews and action. 2024 is on track to be the hottest year on record.
