7:32 pm
hello and welcome to the programme. lots to bring you up to speed with on the show. and we start with a huge result in the premier league with tottenham winning 4—0 at manchester city. just two days on from signing a new contract, a really miserable evening for city boss pep guardiola. city were dominant in the early stages, but it was tottenham who took the lead through james maddison. and the midfielder, celebrating his birthday today, got his and tottenham's second shortly after, 2—0 at half time. and tottenham's third arrived shortly after the restart, pedro porro with the finish. still time for one more, brennanjohnson rounding off a stunning win in stoppage time. 4—0 the final score. spurs move up to sixth. city stay second, but it's now five straight defeats for city, the first time that's happened under guardiola.

earlier, chelsea kicked things off, and they beat manager enzo maresca's former side leicester city. the blues very much contenders, in the top three and continuing their impressive form, with nicolas jackson again on the scoresheet. michael redford reports. two teams in transition and seemingly on different trajectories. enzo maresca has transformed chelsea since leaving leicester after getting them promoted. the task for the man who replaced him, simply keep them there. to do that, steve cooper's side will need to pick up points at home and not give away easy goals. they had four chances to clear the ball, nicholas jackson only needed one to punish it. his team—mates, though, less clinical. a number of chances missed, and leicester nearly made them pay. this effort so close. despite their dominance, chelsea needed a second. cole palmer thought he got it and his team—mate made sure he didn't.
7:34 pm
they eventually found a way through, did brilliantly to denyjackson and could do nothing about fernandez following up. and that should have been that, but leicester refused to lie down. instead, taken down, or maybe not. this challenge deemed illegal, no penalty. ——deemed legal. leicester would get their chance to score from the spot deep into injury time, keeping their cool, leicester lost the match, though. time ran out, their struggles go on, chelsea continue to rise. well, that win for chelsea leaves them just a point behind manchester city now, but there is a strong chasing pack behind them. the boss feels they did enough to get the job done. yeah, good performance. overall i think we deserved to win the game. it is a good game to learn many things that i think for the first half an hour we were in complete control of the game. then we start to make some mistake and we lost a
7:35 pm
little bit of control and then a second half, again, we were there, because we created chances, we scored, and as i said we deserved to win the game. i want more, the players want more, and i believe we can do better, so that is going to come the performance to get the results, and it is about committing to the way we're playing, which some bits at times were really good and at other times were inconsistent and some areas where we just have to get better at. but that is the reality of the challenge of the season. arsenal are back with a win, they're level on points, and goal difference with chelsea, after beating nottingham forest 3—0 at the emirates, theirfirst victory in the league since early october. a superb strike from bukayo saka early on set the tone. arsenal in control after that, substitute thomas partey*s long range second half goal putting the game beyond forest, who came into the match level on points with mikel arteta's side. 17—year—old ethan nwaneri completed the day to give arsenal their first win in five league games.
7:36 pm
i think the first 25 to 30 minutes it was unbelievable fluidity within the team, i sense the last 48 hours after coming from international break, they were at it and really pleased as well. the impact is a topic that is so important in this league. everyone has to feel important, everyone has to play the team and the ones that came on, they did it. brighton survived a late fightback at bournemouth to also keep pace at the top. they won 2—1. goals coming from joao pedro and karou mitoma, before david brooks pulled one back in stoppage time for the home side. the win moves brighton up to fifth, joining chelsea and arsenal on 22 points after 12 games. a real rollercoaster of a match at villa park as aston villa fought back to rescue a point against crystal palace. palace went ahead through ismaila sarr. ollie watkins levelled for villa who then missed a penalty, before the visitors went ahead in first half stoppage time. but ross barkley earned villa a share of the points to end their four match losing

back on track by beating bristol city 1—0 thanks to jaidon anthony. the defeat at ashton gate is a blow to city s own hopes of breaking into the play—off positions and its two months since they last won at home. elsewhere, luton*s 1—0 win over hull takes them up to 16th, while middlesbrough climb to 5th after hammering oxford united 6—2. blackburn's game at home to portsmouth was postponded due to a waterlogged pitch. storm bert has caused problems in scotland — with all the matches scheduled to start at 3pm delayed in one way or another. kick—off was delayed at dundee against hibernian, due to misty conditions. it was full of action after it got under way. hibernian led afterjust two minutes — but then had a man sent off. dundee made the extra man count — they scored two goals in five minutes. they're now leading 3—1 with around 10 minutes left. let's get a check on the rest of the results in the scottish premiership. second placed aberdeen*s

unbeaten league run comes to an end. they were beaten 2—1 by st mirren. rangers, in third, missed the chance to close the gap to them. they had to come from behind to draw with dundee united. elsewhere, ross county beat motherwell 2—i. stjohnstonejump above kilmarnock in the league, after beating them i—o. hearts are at home to leaders celtic — that's about to kick off in the next few minutes. just one women's super league match this weekend, that's chelsea against man united, the last of the unbeaten side. in the women's league cup today, tottenham beat aston villa 1—0 to move top of the group. it was midfielder eveliina summanen*s thunder strike on the hour mark that sealed the win for spurs, netting the ball into the top corner from over a0 yards out. robert vilahamn*s side have made it two wins from two, and take on crystal palace in the competition next. to rugby union's autumn internationals now, and wales and that losing streak goes on, more on that in a moment. but ireland turned on the style to comprehensively get the better of fiji in dublin. after a defeat to the all blacks, and tense

win over argentina, they gained some much needed momentum ahead of their final match next weekend against australia. patrick gearey reports. this is what it means to play for your country. for gus mccarthy and sam prendergast, these were emotional moments on their first ireland starts. mccarthy had to steady his hands. just four and a half minutes in, he was the thread that ran through the opening try. that is the irish side we have come to know! prendergast could not channel the adrenaline as easily. this challenge earned him a yellow card, it might have been read. the half was all green. fiji powerless to stop ireland scoring three times more, craig casey went flying, a more settled prendergast sent one gliding. to where matt hanson was waiting. ireland open their lead out to 30 points, but fiji played their part as well, they added two tries of their own while never threatening

irish control. here at the middle of the maul was mccarthy, some start. and some performance from ireland. eight tries and a glimpse perhaps of the future. meanwhile, wales*s torrid run of results continued, as they fell to a record—extending 12th consecutive test defeat with loss against south africa. ranked number one in the world, the springboks comprehensively dismantled wales, opening their account after just five minutes. they scored three further tries before wales could respond on the stroke of half—time. south africa added another three to their tally in the second half at the principality stadium in cardiff, where the game finished 45—12 to the visitors. for so long, andy murray and novak djokovic were rivals on the court, djokovic more often than not getting the better. but today, the two have announced their teaming up, with murray becoming djokovic's coach through to the australian open next year. murray only announced his
7:42 pm
retirement from the sport in august, after a 19 year career. our tennis correspondent russell fuller gave us his reaction. very surprising. he was always very likely to be a coach, and i think it was always likely to work with top players, but what we did not foresee i think most of us was that andy murray and novak djokovic will be working together at next year's australian open, just a few months into murray's retirement. they have both welcomed the news, djokovic posting on instagram, he never liked retirement anyway. and showed a few of their famous moments together and a hug between the two of them when they were very, very young indeed. and they've said, djokovic, i'm excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net as my coach. looking forward to competing in australia alongside andy with whom i have shared many exceptional moments on the australian soil. exceptionalfor him, because they met in for a stroll in
7:43 pm
——four australian open finals and djokovic won them all. and murray says, i am going tojoin him in the off—season helping him to prepare for the australian open. i am excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as djokovic for a change. and help him achieve his goals. they go back a long way, they are friends off the court, how much will that be a factor in that relationship coming together as it is now? they have a very strong bond from junior years. they are less than two weeks apart in age and they were friends, they then became rivals, i think it is hard to have a properfriendship when you are such rivals. it is rare in professional sport. but there has always been enormous respect for each other. they met 36 times, djokovic won 25 of those meetings, but murray won very two important ones at the us open in 2012 when he won his first grand slam, and then even more famously
7:44 pm
in wimbledon in 2013. and i think this suits murray down to the ground. i thought maybe he would want a little bit more time to relax, having only retired at the olympics at the beginning of august, but opportunities like this do not come along very often. because this could be very well djokovic's final australian open, he has not said that, but he turns 38 in may. the closeness in age and the fact that they are peers and know each other so well, it is rare that you see a coaching dynamic and a player dynamic so near to each other in age range and experience, isn't it? yes, and i think probably it is underlying the fact that djokovic does not much coaching on the spot, he ——techinal side of the sport. had a successful partnership with boris becker and goran ivanisovic recently. but since they split in march, djokovic has worked with people from his academy, by and large. and he felt there would be another appointment heading into 2025, and what andy murray can offer novak djokovic, not that he
7:45 pm
really needs to know anything about competing in grand slams, but he understands exactly what he is going through. and i am sure djokovic is very aware that murray is an astute judge, he has an incredible eye and very analytic about players. not all tennis players are like that and i think djokovic has thought, do you know what? i would love to have some of that expertise in my camp, melbourne. it is great to see a huge name in the sport packet involved in a way like this. djokovic the edge giving the talent that is coming through? i think it will give him a boost, no question. i think it is hard for him to win more grand slams because he is 37 and a half and lasting over five sets and trying to win seven matches, particularly in that heat is tough. but if he is going to do it anyway, it will be at the australian open where he is a ten time champion or wimbledon where he does have an advantage over anybody else over the grass. absolutely it will give
7:46 pm
him a lift, and as you say, from a spectators, fans, point of view, everyone looks forward to the start of the new season. it is only about six weeks away, even though the davis cup final is still taking place in malaga, and this will mean we are looking forward to it with even more relish and excitement. lando norris said he'll "do everything" possible to keep the formula 1 drivers championship alive in tomorrow's las vegas grand prix. the mclaren driver struggled in qualifying on the street circuit — and will start one place behind championship leader max verstappen. the dutchman will clinch a fourth consecutive title if he finishes ahead of norris. if either want to win the grand prix, they'll have their work cut out though after a captivating qualifying session saw them end up on the third row, as nick parrott reports. george russell was not expecting to see his face up in lights after qualifying in las vegas. mercedes have struggled for much of the season, but as the temperatures drop in the desert, their drivers turned up the heat. they went quickest in every session of practice and qualifying.
7:47 pm
russell gambled to get to the front, though. here he was lucky just to kiss the wall, unlike this rookie who wrecked his williams in the final session. many eyes were on the championship battle, but lando norris and max verstappen were struggling for pace. the dutchman ended up fifth, just a place ahead of the briton, but the gap between them was a considerable two tenths of a second. this saw lewis hamilton having to settle for tenth, but his mercedes team—mate russell powered ahead to claim the fourth pole of his career. the track is changing so much, every single lap, and i knew the very last lap in 03 was going to be the one. it did not matter what happened before, you have to make that last lap count and we absolutely did. really pleased. tried to do the best i could. was quite close for p3, those little details could have been better may be, but overall
7:48 pm
happy with the lapse, so, yeah. ——laps. not much more in it. for now, russell is enjoying the plaudits but even victory tomorrow will not overshadow verstappen if he becomes champion. the final round of the world rally championship is taking place injapan with both titles up for grabs. five time runner up thierry neuville is hoping to win his first drivers* title and help clinch the manufacturers* championship for his hyundai team. stage twelve was abandoned after this bizarre incident unfolded in front of britain's elvin evans. the driver of a minivan broke through a checkpoint and remained on the stage for ten minutes until police arrived. the sport's governing body, the fia, described it as "a very serious issue". the rally will finish tomorrow. what a difference a day makes. against all the odds, india are building a big lead against australia in their first test in perth. after the tourists were bowled out for 150 on day 1, australia then had a disastous innings themselves making just 104.
7:49 pm
openers yashasvi jaiswal and kl rahul then batted india into a stong position — they were 172 without loss at the close, a lead of 218 runs. we got some problems to solve ahead of us, no doubt we are clearly well behind the game at this stage. india have got the drivers seat at the moment, but not to say tomorrow can't change very quickly. in test cricket everything ebss and flows, we have all been part of a game when you have been well ahead of the game, it can twist and turn, we have to work on what it looks like us for tomorrow morning. 20 overs until the second new ball, work out a way to navigate through a few batters before the second new ball arrives and that could be out entry point back into the game. now, how about this for a nightmare over — in the abu dhabi t10 tournament earlier. bangla tigers set a low total of 66 against new york strikers, when ireland bowlerjosh little started their defence with a wide and a no—ball in his first two deliveries. after going on to bowl three more wides and another no—ball, little finally finished his

12—ball opening over for 17 runs — more than a quarter of new york's target — from just six legal deliveries. the strikers needed just five more overs to win the game, losing only three wickets. patrick reed went under the magical mark of 60, to take the lead at the hong kong open.(oov)the 2018 masters champion started with five straight birdies, and carded 11 under on the day for a round of 59. the american is three clear of the field, at 18—under—par. i knew where i stood after i made the putt on 15 and did not tell my caddie until i made the putt on 17. little four footer. hey, guess what? one more and we get 59. he was like, well, let's just focus on the tee shot. kept my head on it and focus on what i had to do, work on what happened in the past and not focus on the future. i got two shots anda nice putt. it's day one of snooker*s uk

championship in york where there's been a big shock. hazel irvine has more. well, it has been a stunning start, a shocking start. 11 uk titles between my guests, but we have witnessed the departure of the eight—time champion ronnie o'sullivan beaten in stunning fashion by barry hawkins. ronnie had a clearance from the long red in the first frame, he looked sharp, in top form and we thought it was ominous for barry who does not have a good record against him. at the last four frames, barry won them convincingly, three with no reply on points. found a gear against ronnie, you can come up with excuses for ronnie, may be rustiness, not a lot of snooker, a new coach, trying something different. but at the end of the day you give credit to barry hawkins because those four frames were world—class. absolutely. real nerve to get over the line as well. as you mentioned, his record has not been great against o'sullivan, that is the first time in four
7:52 pm
years he has beaten him, only third time in 21 he has beaten o'sullivan. but what for you was the hallmark if you like for that victory? once barry got some encouragement from ronnie o'sullivan, he then| pressed ahead and it is not always easy against ronnie i o'sullivan to keep him in his chair. he did an excellentjob. when he came in the studio, hel knew it was a good performance. he knows his record against him land i think he was very pleased | with himself. should be as well. the other match went all the way into a final frame decider. it did not look like it was going to. shaun murphy, 2008 champion in this great event, had zhao xintong on a string. 3—0 he led, but tell us about the fightback from the young man. shaun was ahead all afternoon, 3—0, should have gone 4—0. his opponent kept on coming back on him. in the deciding frame, shaun showed more match fit, ring craft if you can call it that. more experience all told.
7:53 pm
zhao was out of the game for a couple of years, rusty there as well. but i think shaun deserved to win. a bit of steel as well, when he came in here he was waxing lyrical about its association now with peter ebdon, one of the hardiest players out there. it seemed to have rubbed off. he looks to get - something from peter ebdon's experience and his. attitude when he played, his intensity, it feels like he has gone soft in the centre. - to get a bit of grit in his game. - a couple of fist pumps _ when needed, nothing wrong with that, it's great. i think it was probably relieved, but as - well pleased with himself- to put away a very dangerous opponent. a really interesting first afternoon and we have a very good evening of snooker ahead of us as well. you can see that on bbc because we have ding junhui who has been flying this season up against rob milkins, the milkman, and we have one of the stars of the season, a fantastic
7:54 pm
breakthrough for him for xiao guodong up against dave gilbert who many of you who watched at the crucible will remember that wonderful run to the semifinals just a few short months ago. lots to look forward to. what a day, day one. let's return to football now. there's another landmark for harry kane. after becoming, the fastest player to reach 50 bundesliga goals. the england captain set the record in his 43rd league game for bayern munich — as they won 3—0 at home to ausburg on friday night. seven games faster than erling haaland, the previous record holder. kane scored all three goals. which was also his 7th hat—trick of the season. it would not be possible without the team for sure, setting me up, creating the chances. it did not look like it with a few minutes left on the clock, being 1—0 up. you have to keep going until the final whistle and i am always ready and always alive no matter what minute of the game. it was not obviously to score a

couple towards the end and get another hat—trick. a reminder of our top story — manchester city's losing streak goes on — it's 5 defeats in a row for them — in the week that manager pep guardiola signed a contract extension. they were well beaten by tottenham at the etihad — 4 goals to nil. james maddison with two goals on his birthday. and pedro porro sealing a stunning win for them. city's form, something of a concern for them, five points off leaders liverpool who play tomorrow. lets hear from the tottenham boss now. lets hear from the tottenham boss "ow-— boss now. super proud of the lads, boss now. super proud of the lads. you _ boss now. super proud of the lads, you come _ boss now. super proud of the lads, you come to _ boss now. super proud of the lads, you come to a - boss now. super proud of the lads, you come to a city, - boss now. super proud of the | lads, you come to a city, their place, it is a daunting prospect for anybody and it challenges you. obviously playing city challenges every part of your football abilities and we had to do a bit of everything today, we had to defend which i thought we did really well. we had to work
