the first session of the new parliament is still ongoing. the green party was sworn in today. in the first session of the parliament, the president has to convene and open. unlike foreign ambassadors not being present like in previous times, this does not stop the government from forming the parliament. all opposition parties have refused to take up

there. . heavy rainfall and dire winter weather is taking a toll on gaza's population, many of whom have been displaced by the war. heavy rain has flooded hundreds of poorly constructed tents across the enclave. some have been completely swept away and there are problems with sewage also. aid groups have called for replacement shelters. a hospital director of one ofjust two medical facilities still partially working in northern gaza has been seriously injured in an israeli drone strike, along with his two daughters and several staff. dr hossam abu safiya heads the kamal adwan hospital in northern gaza. the blast left him with extensive shrapnel in his upper thigh and damaged blood vessels. he says israeli military are targeting the hospital's oxygen facilities and diesel storage with drones. israel does not allow foreign journalists free access to gaza, so a freelancer for the bbc has interviewed dr safiya.

it is clear through this targeting that they want to take us away from providing humanitarian services, which are meant to have humanitarian laws to protect the health system and the staff at this health system. we now have more than 20 injured. every person in this room is an engine injured person who was working inside the hospital. we are unfortunately being targeted on a daily basis. we were supposed to be speaking to dr hossam abu safiya now in the programme, but there's no answer. we will keep trying
