hello and welcome to sportsday. an unprecedented five defeats in a row, but manchester city's manager pep guardiola insists he won't change his tactics. is mo on the move? salah admits he's close to leaving liverpool as the club fail to offer him a new contract. and india take a 1—0 lead in theirfive—match series against australia, after humiliating the home side in perth. hello there, and welcome along to the programme. we might be more than 48 hours on, but questions still loom over what happened at manchester city.

a 4—0 defeat at home to tottenham, their fifth defeat in a row, has led to city falling eight points off the pace at the top of the premier league. this is new territory for pep guardiola, but he insists his side will get back to winning ways sooner rather than later, and he plans to change nothing in the meantime. ben croucher reports. who's keeping count, then? consecutive manchester city defeats? you were right... then this happened on saturday. pep guardiola has lost five games in a row for the first time in his entire managerial career. not the five in a row city were aiming for this season. it's their worst run since 2006. saturday was guardiola's heaviest home defeat. so what's gone wrong? they can point to injuries — the absence of the likes of rodri, ruben dias, mateo kovacic. john stones came off at half—time against spurs. it's left them vulnerable on the counter—attack, conceding double the number of shots on the break than previous seasons.

erling haaland still scoring forfun — nearly a goal a game. but after his 15, the next highest scorer has three. when we are winning a lot, a lot, a lot, always i was thinking, this too shall pass. and right now, this too shall pass, too. so life, nothing, anything is eternal. so every moment that we start winning again, that we were winning a lot of games, i was thinking we are going to lose games. it's unusual, yeah, right. i would say it's been a bit chaotic, you know. i've seen so many people pass around the medical area, like sports science, you know. but of course everybody is a bit down about, you know, the five losses. but, you know, you have to take it and move on. how to do that? well, playing at home should help. that spurs loss was their first in two years at the etihad. feyenoord are fourth in the eredivisie, but did earn an impressive win at benfica on their last away trip in europe. for city to rediscover their confidence, do they need a run
4:48 am
of victories? it's just one. you have to win one game, and after, win the next one, and learn for this one to get better. this is the mindset that we have to have. mindset. tactics. injuries. football can be complex, but simplistically, it's just a numbers game. hoping that losing run doesn't become... how many, pep? ben croucher, bbc news. well, de bruyne, we saw him there, also revealed that he doesn't know if he'll be at city next season after putting talks over an extension to his deal on hold. the midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season. and there could be a big departure from liverpool, too. mohamed salah admits he's disappointed by the club's failure to offer him a new contract, and looks more likely to leave than stay. salah, who's now 32, is the club's top scorer this season, with 12 goals in all competitions, but is out of contract at the end of the season. yeah, i think it's100% a calculated move from mo salah, because he talks very
4:49 am
rarely, and so i think when he does and when he chooses to talk, i think you have to take notice of it and think, well, there's a reason why he's done this. i think it is to put pressure on the club. and i think he knowsjust how much the supporters love him and how much we want him to stay. i think he was maybe expecting something sort of a little bit sooner, and certainly sort of a formal offer, which seems, according to him, to have not arrived. and so it is a little bit of a risk doing it. but i think he thinks it's worthwhile. and i think the hope amongst fans is that, you know, there still is an opportunity for him to sign, and this is maybe part of a negotiation tactic on his behalf, rather than starting a pr campaign behind him leaving. that is the hope, because we just want to watch him play football, because he is such a joy to watch and he's a match—winner, like we saw at the weekend. so hopefully this is just part of a negotiation tactic and we'll laugh about it in a few weeks or a couple of months when it's all signed. a massive win for west ham on
4:50 am
monday in the premier league — they beat newcastle at st james*s park to put some vital distance between them and the bottom three. newcastle had high hopes of staying in touch with the top four, but failed to take their chances. tomas soucek put the hammers ahead, heading home from a corner early on. aaron wan—bissaka sealed the points for the away side, finishing a move in the second half. a game of missed opportunities, though, for newcastle. but valuable points forjulen lopetegui, whose west ham are 14th. it's always a big win to win away, or to win at home in premier league, but against the one team, newcastle, a very tough stadium tough match, very good players, good manager. 0k, we are happy because we need to have won kind of match as today, but we are happy. but three points more and we have to look forward. i was always confident we were in the game and there was a really good chance we could come back. i think we've missed some
4:51 am
gilt—edged chances in that first half in particular. second half, i didn't feel we got going, really. apart from a bright start, i thought we faded away too quickly for my liking and made some strange decisions. because i felt we were, even at 2—0, we're always in the game if we could get that next goal. but unfortunately, as i say, the end part of the game i didn't like. away from football now, and india completed a huge win over australia in the first test of their series in perth, beating the home side by 295 runs inside four days. australia were bowled out for 238 in their second innings, giving india their third—biggest away win. all that after the tourists made just 150 on day one. it's also australia's first defeat at the new perth stadium. the second test takes place in adelaide at the start of next month. not an ideal way to start the summer. um, yeah, i think you always, you know, zoom out. you've got five test matches, and of course you've got sri lanka as well afterwards. but, um, you know, it's a big series. but we thought our prep
4:52 am
was really good leading to this test match. everyone*s was a little bit different. you know, i think i was the only one in the team that didn't play any any red—ball cricket, but had some odi cricket and, um, you know, quite similar lead—in to previous years. and, yeah, i don't think, you know, prep was the issue. we were outplayed this week. proud of the team. you know, we were put under pressure in the first innings when we were bowled out for 150. but then, you know, the team showed character and didn't lose belief. so that is something that will be really special for us. going forward as well, we can take a lot of confidence from that. obviously in this game, a lot of positives for us. you know, we scored a lot of runs in the second innings, new guys coming in, also chipping in with a lot of runs. and of course virat scoring 100 as well is a great sign for us. to an extraordinary story from cricket's indian premier league auction now. the rajasthan royals have picked 13—year—old vaibhav suryavanshi, the youngest player to be picked at an ipl auction, with the royals paying just over £100,000 for the indian

teenagerfor next year's tournament. bad news, though, for 42—year—old james anderson. he was unsold. all ten franchises ignoring england's record wicket—taker. jacob bethell, sam curran, willjacks, brydon carse and jamie 0verton were among the players who were bought on the final day of the auction. and we're a couple of weeks away now from a big night of women's boxing in liverpool. natasha jonas, the ibf welterweight champion, takes on the croatian wbc champ ivana habazin. lauren price is also putting her belts on the line on the same night. ade adedoyin reports. well, it's been an incredible journey for natasha jonas as a professional. she has faced some of the biggest names in the sport. she's challenged for world titles at four different weight classes, and next month, in front of a home crowd, she'll get the opportunity to try and achieve another career milestone, which is to become a unified champion in two different weight classes. standing in her way will be ivana habazin of croatia, an accomplished professional herself who's been in with some of the best. she's no stranger to big nights and big fights, and she's very confident.
4:54 am
i'm sure that she can come and upset the apple cart. i'm here to prove that she can't. when you watch her, what do you think the threat she poses is? what does she do well that you need to be aware of? ijust think she's experienced. she doesn't come tojust make up the numbers. she's going to come and fight and, you know, take my title. she's got good fundamentals, good jabs, you know, good footwork. but everything that she does, ijust believe i'm better. and it's notjust the title at stake for natasha jonas. there's also the carrot of a potential unification bout against lauren price next year. price will be fighting on the undercard. she is a former olympic champion, holds a version of the world title, and the plan is if they both get through their respective bouts, they meet in a huge fight next year. and she's someone that natasha jonas has been keeping a close eye on. oh, for female and british boxing, it's a big, massive, itioi'iuitiei'itous occasion. i think throughout history of the sport, we've had from, evenjust my experience,
4:55 am
we've had, you know, chris eubank and nigel benn. we've had, you know, the carl—brook, and everything in between. when you have them big domestic rivalries, it gets everyone to pick a side and pick a team and you have to stay loyal to that team. and i think sometimes we need that as a bit of rejuvenation within the sport, within our own country, and i think that can do that. so the situation is clear. if lauren price wins and natasha jonas wins, the two of them will meet in what would be a huge domestic clash early next year. ade adedoyin there. a reminder that newcastle and west ham — west ham beat them at st james*s park to put some distance between them and the bottom three in the premier league. you can get more on that story, as well as all the latest on the bbc sport website and the bbc sport app. the usual address for the website — bbc.com/sport — but from me and the team, thanks for watching, we'll see you soon.
